Since moving to IA from CA, we’ve been on the hunt for great Mexican food. We found it here! My husband always judges a joint based on their carnitas, and he was pleased. I loved my order of carnitas and carne asada authentic(street) tacos. Great flavors. My daughter rated her burrito 8 out of 10. Friendly staff. Only complaint was that we ordered a pitcher of Patron Margaritas, and my husband complained he could not taste(or feel a buzz from) the tequila.

We’re in town to visit family and stopped in here for lunch. I must be honest this is one of the best Mexican restaurants I’ve ever been. Everything tasted fresh. Nothing tasted pre cooked or from a can. Service was kind of bland but the food was outstanding.

We recently returned to the area, and were surprised to see Saigon Café gone. Based on good reviews, we gave it a try. Portions are seriously generous. My carnitas burrito was the best I ever had, fresh and tasty. My wife’s pollo tejano suffered from dry and chewy chicken. As I type, we’ve been waiting quite a while for the server to come by, at first for a beverage refill and now just for la cuenta. No luck, so we’ll just go up to the counter and try to pay. Food, mostly awesome. Service needs work, or maybe too few people are being asked to do too much.

LOVE the food and the family feel of this place. The downer? Service. Servers are evidently over-worked and stressed(even at non-peak times like 5:30−6 p.m.) so service can be pretty slow. Despite that, I love this place, and all of the staff is very sweet.

We love this place. Nice authentic food. The green salsa they bring to the table is excellent and reminds us of our trips to Mexico. We have been to almost every Mexican restaurant is Des Moines and this is by far the best.

I have found my new favorite guilty pleasure! This fresh new restaurant is absolutely a must try! We ordered 10 tacos for carry-out this evening. My boyfriend ordered 3 carne asada and 3 pastor(marinated pork) and I ordered 3 pastor and 1 carnitas on flour tortillas. My boyfriend loved the authentic flavor of the meat and corn tortillas. Although I originally ordered 3 carnitas and 1 pastor, I am so happy they did the reverse because the pastor tacos were absolutely incredible! Some of the best(marinated) pork tacos I have had. The meat is cooked with some sort of fruit that gives it this sweet, succulent taste. Along with the tacos we ordered chips and queso. As a girl who loves her cheese, I can 100% say that I approve of this queso! The décor is also very nice and the staff super friendly. I consider this my new go-to place for tacos and definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a new and tasty Mexican restaurant in Des Moines!

We don’t live in the area but stopped in one evening for dinner. Food was the freshest tasting Mexican I’ve had in the Des Moines area. The green spicy salsa is fantastic. Place seemed clean and well maintained. Only reason I didn’t give it 5 Stars was because I had to hunt down the waiter to get a water refill and a second time to get the bill. Wish they’d open a 2nd place in Altoona.

I don’t typically post reviews but wanted to make an exception for Nacho Tequilas. This is without a doubt my favorite Mexican restaurant in the DSM metro area. My husband and I dine there weekly and our meals are always delicious(though when it comes to chips and salsa, Mazetlan still serves the best in town). The menu here is diverse, the portions are generous and the décor is warm and very inviting. Factor in the friendly service and you have a restaurant I look forward to dining at often in the years to come.

I don’t know what restaurant everyone else was eating at but we did not have a great experience and will not go back. My husband and I were impressed by the remodel, and we’re seated quickly. We both ordered a beer and my husband received the wrong beer, the language barrier seems to be an issue.(We did not argue it, just went with it). We ordered a chicken enchilada with cream sauce(enchilada poblanos) and a shrimp dish(camarones a la veracruzana). The chicken in the enchiladas was so over-cooked it took on the consistency of paste and the cream sauce had broken and tasted like it had been freezer burned(like the inside of a fridge). The shrimp dish came with a tomato based sauce with green olives and mayonnaise … the sauce was odd; kind of a sweet, sour taste with a hint of the olive brine. The shrimp were cooked well, but the sauce was just not my thing I guess. During the course of the meal my husband ordered a second beer and I declined and asked for a glass of water, which never came. The checkout process was confusing, no check was dropped at our table nor were we directed anywhere. We eventually walked to the cashier stand and they checked us out there. It appears that was the expected thing to do.

Very nice place in a weird location. Came here with workers for lunch, and we all loved it. Its very nice inside and must have been renovated very recently. The prices however are still very low for what you get. The meat was super good and tasted like it just came off the grill, and the vegetables had a nice sear on them. All the portions were great. Only not so great thing was the chips and salsa. We got a refill and those as well were kind of on the burnt end. And the salsa wasn’t as good as some other places. Other than that, it’s great and I would recommend it.

The rice is super flavorful! I had lengua tacos. The meat was very tender, but there could have been just a little more! The tamales were good! The flan was so-so. Will be back!

We decided to try this restaurant after reading other positive reviews. The reataraunt itself was newly updated and clean. The food was excellent and freshly cooked,(didn’t taste like it was in the back all day then reheated like majority Mexican restaurants). My husband gave it two thumbs up and thought the food was definitely worth going back!

Arguably the best and freshest mexican food in the Des Moines area. The fajitas easily provide 2 – 3 meals and are always on point.

The place is newly remodeled and clean. This place has Americanized and authentic Mexican food on the menu. The street style tacos is what I was craving for. Ordered one chorizo and carne asada. Both were great served with cilantro and onion. Side of lime and radish. Very comparable to the east side taco places or trucks. White cheese dip — cheap and good. Cheese dip with chili — not a fan of. It was the white cheese dip with chili type powder and green onion. Probably won’t order again. Newer restaurant still working out kinks. Seated promptly. Took awhile to take our orders since they were busy. Food came in decent time. Took awhile to clear our dishes and give us take out boxes. We sat at least 10 minutes after waiting for our checks. Overall hope they improve on service. Food was good and will be back.

The fish tacos were amazing! Made to a crispy perfection. The small«salad» it came with for the tacos had bits of avocado in it, which was a nice touch. The rice was authentic and amazing. Everything pretty much had cilantro in it(I love cilantro, but for people that don’t.) Definitely 100% some if the best authentic mexican food West Des Moines has to offer. Definitely will be back.

Wanted some street style tacos for dinner but didn’t want to find a food truck so I stopped by here after seeing some pics on Unilocal. The place is clean and bright since it just opened. I got my order to go and the person that took my order was fast and friendly. I got 5 tacos to go, 2 steak, 2 carnitas, and 1 El pastor. I got mine in flour tortillas but you can also get corn tortillas if you’d like. All the tacos tasted fresh and flavorful and it definitely filled me up good! There was plenty of meat and the cilantro added extra flavor too. The tacos were $ 2 a piece so they were pricey compared to tacos at Tacos Marianas and other places. Though I’ll still come back and try some of their other dishes.

This is truly some of the best, most authentic Mexican food in Des Moines. We ordered the Pollo En Salsa De Chipotle and the Cochinita Revolcada. The portions were huge. The Pollo was Smokey chipotle flavored with large chunos of chicken. The rice and beans were also flavorful or as my husband says«not that normal mush stuff». The Cochinita says it is spicy and it does not disappoint. Plenty to take home for later! The only downside: The margaritas were smaller than some for the price. The restaurant was decorated with a modern feel. Not the stereotypical over-the-top Mexican décor. It just might be our new favorite.

This is my new favorite Mexican restaurant in Des Moines, the food is not like any other place in town, it has spice and flavor! The sauce on the enchiladas is a deep brown chili sauce, not the bland watery red sauce at most places, the beans are awesome, and the rice is the best I ever had! I have eaten at some of the best Mexican restaurants in the country, Joe T Garcias, Mi Tierra, Los Corrals, El Coyote, and seriously this place ranks right up there with them! I actually can’t wait till my next visit to try some different from the menu.
