La Quinta Inn & Suites Des Moines West Clive

This is my preferred overnight location when driving from Duluth, MN to Kansas City, MO. Inexpensive and very clean, with a 5-​star staff. Right off of I-​35, and next door to the Cracker Barrel restaurant. Book through Priceline Express in the Clive area of Des Moines… it’s the 2.5 star with a pool.

I stay at La Quinta hotels all I can for their very dog friendly policy. The problem I have with this hotel is they won’t give discounts available at the rest of the chains hotels. They won’t honor online discount codes. Their prices used to be reasonable, not so much now. $ 110/​night, tax included for an «Executive King» room which means a regular king room with a couch is a total rip off. They actually have cheaper rooms if you can manage to sleep on a double bed. WHO HAS DOUBLE BEDS THESE DAYS? The service when checking in with Larry was exceptional, but that’s where it ends. I’ll be finding a different hotel to stay in when in Des Moines from now on.

I am traveling cross country from NH to CO for a new job and I needed a pet friendly hotel… I’ve been doing some traveling with my cat quite a bit this summer due to life circumstances… anyway I’ve stayed in a wide range of Hotels in the $ 100/​night price point which ranged from absolutely icky to great and this LaQuinta is definitely on the great end of the spectrum! Easy to get to off of I-​80 (and 25) don’t let your GPS fool you… It’s a very reasonable price and much nicer and cleaner than what I have seen in the same price range and I wasn’t forced into a room specific for pets and their owners I was given a very clean and odor free room! Don’t let some of the bad reviews scare you off… I understand it almost happened to me but I took a chance and I’m very glad I did!

Friendly staff, pet friendly. Handled the crowd from the dog show like a champ. Free parking and wi-​fi. Not sure if they saved the previous smoking rooms for pets, but the room smelled of stale smoke. No toiletries provided.

Always stay at la Quinta because they allow pets. This was one of worst la Quinta we ever stayed at: there was mold on ceiling of bathroom, it had an old smell, the breakfast was limited, very tiny bathroom, mold on shower curtain and shower head so low, it only good if you are very short.

If I could give this zero stars I would. When we checked in we went into our room and it smelled like cat urine. Now I can be understanding since they do allow pets. However, this smelled as if there had been 15 pissing cats for days in there. They moved us to a different room. All was going well until I was just dozing off to sleep. Had an itch behind my ear and what did I find… BED BUGS.
After a call to the front desk they moved us to the hotel across the street, said they would refund my credit card, and also cover the cost of the difference since the new hotel was more expensive. Avoid this la Quinta at all costs.

Great place to stay! Room was very clean, bathroom too! Good breakfast with usual La Quinta stuff. Free parking and Wifi. Bed very comfortable too! I highly recommend this place! I’ll be back! Lots of places to go eat like Crackerbarrel, and a steakhouse. Gas station nearby. Great location too! Friendly staff!

My husband and I stayed here on our move from MN to CA. The rooms were clean and had plenty of space. The AC wouldn’t stay on, older model fans that kick off all the time. I sleep with the room in the low 60’s, so having AC on is important.
I forgot my laptop in our room and didn’t realize it until over 15 hours later. I left message with the night guy to have the manager Mary look for it upon her return to work Monday. Upon calling Monday, Mary had found the laptop and was happy to mail it out to us. We are very grateful for honest, friendly staff willing to help us out.
Easy on/​off access from the freeways and a large parking lot across the street that was able to hold our 2 trucks, 5^th wheel and boat for the night.

Good hotel. The rooms were clean and efficient. Breakfast was good. Location was convenient to some fantastic Thai food, so bonus!

I passed through here on a cross-​country road trip and had a really positive experience … especially after spending the previous night in the ickiest Motel 6 I’ve ever seen, the clean white duvet cover and plentitude of pillows on the king bed were like something out of a beautiful dream.
My dog and I had a brief but pleasant stay. We walked through a nearby corporate park and found a trail leading to a gorgeous residential area, which provided one of our nicer on-​the-​road walks. There’s not a lot in the way of restaurants nearby, but the room had menus with a few good delivery options. Overall very clean and friendly.

Clean rooms, friendly staff, make your own waffles for breakfast. No complaints here. Great price for a great stay!

The hotel has great staff at the front desk — very helpful and friendly. The hotel seemed to have a lot of people that were traveling with dogs. Our room was clean and quite.
In the lobby area is a computer along with a printer for your use.
this hotel seemed to be used by a lot of business people — must be a good location for them.
Breakfast room clean and food hot.
There are a few restaurants with in walking distance.

Traveling across country with my husband from California en route to our new home in Chicago, and came across this gem! Have previously stayed at La Quinta, and was more than glad to use this hotel chain again. Friendly hotel staff, pet friendly, and best of all, the room was not over crowded with kitschy furniture, and was clean! No residual odor of previous pets (which definitely unsettles my dog). Love this chain, and recommend this place to anyone looking for a good nights sleep in a CLEAN room.

I cannot say enough about how friendly the staff was throughout, including during the booking, check-​in, breakfast, & check-​out processes. Kid friendly (we have 4 young children). Clean rooms. Our 2-​beds room had good space. Comfortable beds. Wifi internet worked well. Flat screen TV with good clarity. Good location. It’s a no-​smoking facility, but smoking must have been allowed in the past, as it retains a smoke smell in the hallways.

This was my favorite La Quinta Inn I stayed at during my cross country drive. Staff was on it. When we got there the room given to us had water coming from the ceiling. I think the person above probably just over flowed their toilet. Rooms were switched promptly and we were upgraded. Very clean and the lobby breakfast was very kid friendly, not that I have kids.
This is a dog friendly chain and there are lots of cute doggys but ti’s still clean. This was my favorite La Quinta I stayed at during my cross country trip.

This hotel appears as though it was previously a Baymont Inn and Suites according to the elevator permit. This hotel has all the amenities that you need for a good nights rest.
I love the fact that they provide a continental breakfast. It is actually pretty decent. I had some hard boiled eggs, some yogurt, and some orange juice.
It is great that this hotel provides good free internet service. The heating and cooling unit is a wall mounted unit but it is temperature sensing so that was good too. There was a flat screen TV in the room with plenty of HD channels to choose from.
There is only 1 elevator throughout the entire complex so try to find a parking spot adjacent to the lobby so you don’t have to go so far.

What a wonderful pristine comfortable place to stay after a long drive. I cant say enough about it. friendly staff, great bed and the value was amazing: $ 63.00 through Orbitz. It is really nice to feel like you get a great deal once in awhile. So super duper great :)
