Smith Brothers General Store

This store is all about Americana at it’s best! We were from Waterloo back in the 60“s and we had family in Clinton that we visited several times a year. Smith Brothers was always on mom’s agenda. We would always buy a case of Nesbitt pop. We loved to look through all the «junk». There motto was «If we don’t have it you don’t need it!» The building looks like it was built in the late 1800’s. Have not been back in decades, this weekend my wife and I are going on a motorcycle trip and one of our stops will be at Smith Brothers General Store!

Love this general store. Whenever my friends from Chicago visit, we always go to Smitty’s because it never ceases to impress out-​of-​towners.

I really don’t know how to begin this review. We were visiting from California and stopped in during our road trip from Chicago to Iowa. I have never witnessed a store quite like this one. Upon entry, you would think a tornado hit the place but that’s what signifies its beauty. This store has just about anything and everything imaginable. The owner is the friendliest person I have ever met. If time allowed, I would probably still be standing at the register engaged in conversation. If you appreciate the stores collection for its uniqueness and off the wall merchandise, it can be a rather exciting experience. You can definitely waste some time here (hour +) with the variety of small, medium or large collectibles. Luckily this was on our agenda because I was having trouble finding souvenirs from Clinton, IA. This place solved those issues and provided my family with awesome keepsakes from Clinton, IA. If you are driving through or staying anywhere close to Clinton, IA, I HIGHLY recommend that you check this place out! Good times!
