I’ve been here few times with my husband. My favorite is green curry ramen. It is unique and tasty. Cha-shu on the ramen is very juicy. It is a small restaurant but has very friendly atmosphere.

Some of the best ramen I’ve had. The pork is slow cooked for hours in the broth and just melts in your mouth. The star is friendly and helpful. The inside is not fancy its simple just like the ramen it serves. Prolly best ramen spot on this side of he bridge.

The whole family wanted to try a place that we’ve never been to and settled on Blackbeard based on all the wonderful reviews. We were seated quickly by a friendly waiter. The establishment is small with limited menu, wished there were more on the appetizers, they only have steamed dumplings. I had the Green Curry Ramen which was definitely different than the Tonkatsu I would’ve normally ordered, it has nice kick with the thin noodles. My husband had the Tonkatsu which was also very good.

We went here for late lunch, probably one hour before they’re closing time. We had to wait and split our seats since it was seven of us and they place was kinda small. We ordered the following… Gyoza: they were delicious and house made. In fact, we ordered probably like 4 orders of this. There’s five per order. Spicy Miso Ramen: broth was very delicious, not too salty, and pretty solid. I love the fact that they use the thicker noodle. Tonkotsu Ramen: It’s good, not as bold in flavor as the miso/spicy miso. Green curry: I was surprised that this place was actually better than the recently opened Momosan by Morimoto who serves red curry ramen but it was just not working. Blackbeard somehow able to work out the flavor. +‘s: green tea is free refill, portion is generous. -‘s: the soft boiled egg is an add on, none of the ramen comes with it. WOrth it!

While searching for a ramen joint on a rainy day, Blackbeard Ramen popped up in my Unilocal search and I came here the same day(Sunday dinner) with a friend. When we arrived, there was only one table left, it was poppin! Their menu is limited, which is good for the indecisive person that I am. I would normally get Tonkatsu broth just to be safe but this time I went with the Green Curry ramen. I thought the Green Curry ramen was really good but then I tried my friend’s Tonkatsu ramen, and I liked it a lot more! However, both are very delicious and flavorful, they are just different. You really can’t go wrong with either or. I’m a huge Green Curry fan(it’s my go to entrée when I go to any Thai restaurants). It wasn’t as thick and creamy as I expected but I could really taste the ginger in the broth which I love. This place is solid. I really enjoyed my experience here and iIt’s definitely now one of my favorite places to eat ramen now in NJ. Their prices are reasonable as well. I got a large ramen which just extra noodles for an extra $ 1. Next time I think I’m going to order the regular size but with 2 eggs instead of 1. Their eggs are cooked to absolute perfection — it’s very well marinated and the yolk is runny. The Chatsu was good, but not the best I ever had. same goes for the noodles — I think I prefer Menya Saidame’s more. II really enjoyed the broth and the eggs and I will be coming back in the future for that. The ambiance is clean and cute. The staff is very attentive and friendly. If you check in via Unilocal, you get a free soda! Parking is not an issue at all, there is a lot on the side shared with a Chinese restaurant which is always a plus. I highly recommend this place!

Ooooh myyyy sooo good! I’ve only been here once lol, and I can’t wait to go back again(I just need a friend who would eat hot japanese ramen with me in this weather). The noodles, broth, meat, ambiance, I loved everything. I had their tonkatsu ramen spicy and wow. I love Menya too, but I think I love Blackbeard more. I want to try the green curry next time because everyone reviewing it seems to really like it. My ramen was $ 10 and then $ 0.50 extra to make it spicy which I don’t mind at all. Try it if you haven’t already, you won’t be disappointed!

Hands down the best ramen shop in all of Jersey! I know that’s a bold statement but I would rather walk the plank than take it back. The reason for this is because like the pirates of old, Blackbeard Ramen has truly found the greatest treasure of all – a perfect bowl of ramen. Yes, ladies and gentlemen fret no more. There is actually a ramen shop that will satisfy noodle connoisseurs their craving of authentic Japanese ramen here in New Jersey. From the flavor to the presentation, Blackbeard Ramen has hit all the right notes. Prepare to sail away on this journey with me in discovering one of the best bowl of ramen I’ve had outside of Tokyo. There’s a reason why this restaurant has garnered such high ratings on Unilocal. It’s no fluke nor is it staged. Many other Unilocalers that I personally know have visited and the consensus remains: it is one of the best ramen around. And rightfully so because the chef-de-extraordinaire honed his skills in the ramen kitchens of Japan. The artistry and skill are all present here folks. Make no mistake this pirate has conquered the seven seas of ramen flavor. I was so struck with this place that I immediately made a return visit the following day after my initial rendezvous. The reason was simple – I couldn’t stop thinking about the food I had the day before. For my first visit I opted for the Tonkotsu thin ramen with soft boiled egg. I also ordered gyoza to wet my appetite before the main event arrived. Having opted for the large bowl(which has 50% more ramen) I knew that I was going to be stuffed by the end of the night. I was wondering if I could even finish it all but boy was I wrong. At the end of the meal I pretty much licked the entire bowl clean. The steamed pork dumpling was perfectly cooked. With a side of soy sauce and chili oil it was the perfect start of the meal. Shortly thereafter the ramen bowl arrived and my eyes opened with excitement. I could smell all the deliciousness in front of me. The pork and vegetable broth emanated an aroma so intoxicatingly good one could get drunk on it alone. The noodles were perfectly done al dente and the chashu(pork belly) was so tender and flavorful I had that rare foodgasm that many epicureans talk about. Everything harmonized in that bowl and no ingredient felt out of place. That is truly phenomenal! After an amazing meal the evening before, I decided to come back the next day with my best bud Calvin and once again be enveloped by the flavor. This time around I opted for their famous green curry broth with thick noodles and the quintessential soft boiled eggs. What can I say this dish is to die for! The complexity and depth of the broth is so exquisite I tasted the very essence of Thai and Japanese cooking. The thicker noodles cooked al dente is the only thing that could stand up to the bold flavor. The dish definitely has plenty of heat but it hits towards the back end as it lingers in the palette for some time! I could have this dish every day but alas it is too far out of the way for me to do so. Regardless I know I’ll have more visits to come. I will gladly hoist the sails and become a part of Blackbeard Ramen’s journey to ramen treasures!

A clean, friendly, casual, neighborhood place. It was my first time here and I’m not an expert in ramen. The owner was welcoming and patiently walked me through the menu. The Tonkotsu ramen was flavorful and delicious. Cold, green tea was good and a thoughtful refill was a nice touch . I’ll be back to try the Green Curry ramen.

Best find of the month if not the year. Definitely a better alternative to Ani Ramen in Montclair. Ordered the Green Curry and Tonkatsu Ramen and have to say were better than any ramen restaurant in the area. Although we live a mile away from Ani, this joint in Cliffside Park is worth the 15 mile drive. Highly recommended.

Favorite ramen joint in the area. The green curry is flavorful without being too overwhelming on the heat. The other flavors are good, but the green curry is something special. Appetizer selections are limited. By that I mean you have the choice of Gyoza, Gyoza, or you guessed it, Gyoza… Since the Gyoza is not particularly memorable, I would recommend skipping that to save room for more noodles($ 2). They also have rice dishes. It comes with mayo on top. Not really my cup of tea… Always, always, remember to get the egg with your ramen. You’re welcome. P. S. They also have training chopsticks for those that are used to the good ol’ fork and knife…

Solid ramen joint. Slightly different offerings than the other ramen places in the area. They have a curry ramen which I haven’t tried but people seem to really enjoy. I like that they serve soft-boiled eggs here as an add-on. Personally, I’m a big fan of soft-boiled eggs in my ramen. Since I’m a fatty, I appreciate that adding extra noodles is only $ 1. I don’t know if maybe I’m just such a fanboy of Totto ramen that I can’t appreciate other ramens, but the ramen at Blackbeard doesn’t stand out to me. It’s not bad and is certainly better than some of the other ramens in the area, but it just doesn’t wow me. But nonetheless, this is a solid place and I would have no problem getting my NJ ramen fix here especially since the staff and service are so great. The person(who I think) runs the restaurant is incredibly friendly and that’s always a giant plus in my book.

A friend’s friend who lives in the neighborhood said, «I don’t know why you people always go to Mitsuwa and wait so long for the ramen when there’s really good ramen 5 minutes away!» So we came here. We will definitely come here for ramen instead of Mitsewa from now on! It’s hard to miss a pirate(with a black beard, what else) for a ramenya logo. Once up a few steps of stairs, you’ll enter a small, clean, white space with a brick feature wall. The restaurant is spacious but seating is limited. We had a party of 6 and we sat comfortably. Check-in on Unilocal gets you a free regular soda! The man who took care of us(seemed like the owner/manager/someone of authority) was very chill and friendly, gave a dollar off any drinks other than regular soda when we checked in. He was cool and almost made it seem like we were just eating and hanging out at a friend’s house! I ordered the miso ramen; it was really good. The soup base was flavorful but not too salty, which is an issue in a lot of other ramen places. I added a soft boiled egg that was just the perfect runny consistency without the strong raw flavor. The chashu was also flavorful and melts in your mouth! The same server saw that I was scooping spices from a friend’s spicy miso ramen(which was really good too!) and gave me a whole bowl full of spices on the side. My boyfriend ordered the green curry ramen that was really good as well. The soup was creamy, a little sweet and comes with a little kick in the end. There’s an option for if you’d like thick noodles or thin noodles, and most of us went with thick noodles that was the right amount of chewiness. Overall a 5* dining experience! Highly recommend if you’re like us and had been going to Mitsuwa dealing with the large crowd and the long wait time for their ramen, this is definitely the #1 alternative to check out.

The Japanese sodas were delicious! Both flavors! The steamed gyoza and the vegetarian rice curry were easily the best things on the menu. The two ramen dishes we had were eatable but wouldnt order again. The green(rice milk) something or other ramen dish was good and the pork in the taz-something or other ramen dish was cooked very well but both were lacking in some salty or sweet flavor. Just kinda bland and overpowered w the mushroom taste they added.

This ramen was recommended by my husband’s auto repair guy who works a few steps away. He mentioned we’d like this quaint ramen place around the corner. Since we’re fond of ramen, we weren’t expecting much. Boy were we in for a surprise. Blackbeard isn’t very big. They only accommodate a few tables. When you enter, you’re welcomed with polite and upbeat staff. Maybe that’s how restaurants should be– unpretentious, simple and to the point. I ordered the pork tonkatsu ramen Nd my husband had the spicy miso ramen and we decided to share the gyoza. The ramen is solid, deep and simply yummy. I added a soft boiled egg in mine, which is not necessary(my egg was a little salty for my liking) and can stand on its own. This might just be a new favorite ramen place where the food speaks for itself and you’re left high in pork and ramen broth. Hats off to the owners and staff for sticking to what they are good at and what they know.

This is a quaint family own businesses that offers damn good ramen. Inside seating has about 8 tables and a bar area. Walls display fun chachkies and owner has good taste in music. A restaurant that speaks to my heart! Now the food! The ramen is so rich and flavorful. I’ve tried all the ramen and my go to is the tonkatsu. Spicy option is available as well. Do yourself a favor and order the soft broiled egg to go with the ramen. The egg is cooked perfectly soft boiled — egg is flavored with soy sauce and yolk is perfectly runny. Blackbeard seems to be the only ramen spot where I can finish my bowl. I don’t know what it is but keep making that delicious ramen!

3.75 to be exact. Blackbeard Ramen is a small establishment, but it definitely knows how to great unique and flavorful bowls of ramen! This place has only has a bunch of tables for two(that can be combined since they are similar sizes) and seats by the kitchen, so any larger party would be difficult to accommodate when it is busy. The parking lot here is very small and it is shared with Petite Soo Chow so the lot may be full during peak hours. What I liked was how the place looked when I came in. I can see and reference many of the nerdy video game references on the walls(and especially the Psyduck Starry Night painting in the bathroom)! I came in on a Saturday night and waited approximately 15 minutes. Once I sat down, I decided to order their unique bowl of ramen, the Green Curry Ramen. Depending on how hungry you are, there is an option of getting a «large» bowl, which has 50% more noodles. Also, you are able to choose whether you want to have thin or think noodles and if you would like the noodles cooked firmly(al dente). I chose thin and al dente noodles here. I thought the thin noodles here were okay, but I was able to try my friend’s thicker al dente noodles, which I definitely would prefer and choose to get next time. The ramen itself was very interesting. It has a spicy kick to it as you would imagine with green curry. Contrary to what you may think by the name, the broth is not as rich and creamy as I thought it would have been, but a lighter broth is what I personally prefer so I was fine with that. Also, note that the ramen does not come with an egg, so if make sure you order it if you want one. As a note, I thought the egg here was just okay, it did not taste anything or added to the flavor of the ramen. Service was great when I was here, and I would definitely return again to try their other offerings.

Love all their broths but lately my go to has been the spicy tonkotsu and I always substitute the automatic thin noodles to their thick egg noodles. Just a preference of mine and the thicker noodles are always very al dente. Top it off with the perfect oozing egg! They now have lunch specials: $ 2 gyoza and $ 3 rice bowls.

I’ve been eyeing this place a for a while now and finally got a chance to try it with my husband and cousin! We came here on a windy, cold, Friday night around 8. Parking sucks because there really isn’t a lot. The restaurant is located on a corner of Gorge Rd. There’s no parking zones next to the restaurant and you can’t park off the Main Street. What we did was park up the block and walked. The restaurant is very small. There’s tables that’ll seat about 20 – 25 people and a bar that’ll seat an addition 6 – 8 people. The place is very basic; white tables and chairs, a TV on one side of a wall and a shelf of cute little toy décor on the opposite wall. The menu was very limited compared to some ramen places I’ve visited, but none the less, the food didn’t disappoint. The menu says it was a soft opening, so it’s understandable as to why the menu was limited. The menu has about 4 – 5 ramen dishes to choose from. Each order comes either in a small or a large bowl, which is only $ 1 difference. Addition items to add to your noodle are available depending on your liking. Rice dishes are available as well, but like I said, the menu is very limited(refer to my picture for reference). We ordered the gyoza appetizer which was ok. I can’t say it was the best, but it certainly wasn’t awful. The ramen of choice for me was the tonkatsu gyokai with a hard boiled egg. This came with a variety of meats, mushrooms, and bamboo shoots, and a runny middle hard boiled egg. The ramen and the broth was absolutely delicious. A lot of times, the broth is overly salty. This one was just right. The broth was neither bland or salty and contain and over bearing amount of flavor. The flavor of the broth also seemed to have been influenced by the types of items that came with the ramen. Additional condiments were available as well for those who prefer something more spicy or less bland. I personally added chili oil to my ramen because I love eating ramen with a hint of spice. I can’t really say much about the waitstaff because only one guy was needed to work the entire floor. The guy was attentive and apoplectic when the table he sat us at had garbage over the floor(kids were seated at the table before us). We were brought out menus and waters right away and the guy came to take our orders as soon as he noticed we were decided. I would come back with other friends again! I hope this place eventually gains more business and their menu offers more variety(seafood, vegetables, etc). I gave this place a 4 star because of the small menu option. I’d like to see this place eventually make it big to one of the most delicious ramen locations around the area!

I’ve had my fill of the local ramen places and hadn’t yet found one that really hit the spot. Today while driving down Gorge Road, I caught sight of the sign for this new restaurant. I hadn’t had lunch yet, and stopped in to give it a try. I ordered the green curry and after the first mouthful, knew that the Ramen Gods have answered my prayers! The broth is crazy flavorful and savory. The waiter asked how everything was and I told him it was amazing! He laughed and said after the first time he had the green curry, he made sure he had some every day for a month. I’m tempted to do the same! Enjoy the edamame appetizer as you let the noodle sop up some of the hot broth unless you are an über al dente fan. Add a few extras, like another half serving of noodles and chasu. Keep some change after you pay the bill and play with the panda and kitty peekaboo banks on the way out.

Holiest hole-in-the-wall place I’ve found in Bergen County so far! Their ramen is so on point. I’m so glad to find out about this place just before the weather gets a bit too cold :) Authentic, flavorful, super delicious bowl of goodness! I highly recommend the green curry+soft boiled egg! Definitely best ramen I’ve had in all NJ. The egg was boiled so perfectly! Runny on the inside just as I like it. Broth is so flavorful and I really enjoyed every single slurp til the last drop did us apart.
