Pampered Pets

Choices for grooming in this part of Florida are few and far between. Even the mobile groomers don’t want to come this far. The location was convenient for the Clewiston/​Moore Haven area. At first glance, shop clean and neat. The layout allows one to see the dogs waiting their turn in their cage. I took my dog in at 10am and only one other dog was waiting. I could also see the dogs being dried. Everything was transparent which was comforting. BUT… the apparent manager/​owner — person clearly in charge kind of plopped my dog into a cage and locked the door abruptly– not mean, just fast. I didn’t think much of it at the moment. She said it would be 2.5 hrs maybe a bit shorter, which is the same as my regular groomer. I asked two things: keep a round face on my shihtzu and that he has been itching from the heat, so a short cut preferred. Shame on me for not asking more questions about the dogs private areas. After an hour and a half, I picked up my dog. The person who cut him was not there – two other employees I did not recognize. This was unsettling. The employee let my dog out of the cage, and he immediately ran to me. My dog was unrecognizable. A close cut around his chin and nose instead of a round face made him look like a completely different breed. His ears were also very short. Allow me to note that I had thoroughly brushed him before dropping him off and he was NOT matted up or messy. I paid the $ 45 for a full groom including glands, ears, nails, and cut. Also out of courtesy left a $ 5 tip –even though I didn’t see who groomed him. Yes even as I type this I realize how dumb I sound. So I get him home and flip him over — and see SKIN everywhere along his tummy and bottom side, between legs, etc. It’s so close that the wind is irritating him and he is doing the butt scoot dance. I really do not think an experienced person cut my dog’s hair; or they simply went too fast. I definitely had a «first in first out factory» type feeling. I won’t go back, and won’t recommend to anyone — and lots of people in this park are looking for a decent groomer. Looks like someone else needs to own up a shop around here!
