This is the cafeteria in the CWRU/UH Biomedical Research Building. It’s run by the CWRU foodservice contractor, Bön Appetit, and I appreciate their efforts to serve local & sustainable food when possible. This place used to be my regular lunch spot, but the prices have gotten too high. Their big pizza slices used to be $ 2.50, but now they want $ 3.20 each. I’ve never seen pizza-by-the-slice cost so much anywhere outside of a sports stadium. The sandwiches are something like $ 6 – 7, and they’re nothing special at all, just deli meat and cheese and mayo/mustard and a pickle spear on the side. The«simple 600» option is usually good and actually healthy, but now they want $ 7 for the meal. The sushi used to be a full package of Cali rolls for $ 6, now it’s closer to a half package. And the salads… well, it’s far easier than you think to accidentally weigh out a $ 10+ salad. Stick with leafy greens unless you want a pricey lunch. I didn’t mention their Cleveland Home Plate station. I quit going to that about a year ago, because Wade, the guy who works it, only ever seems to be friendly to other darker-skinned people*. I’ve never been less than 100% patient and polite and yet he still never apologized for a long wait or for running out of an item. I know it’s the kitchen’s fault, but that’s just courtesy. It’s not right for me to order a meal and only get half of it, but that doesn’t seem to bother him. I’ve seen him be terse with other white customers on multiple occasions too. It was never provoked. I figure it’s his right to act that way, and it’s also my right not to buy from him, simple as that. The cashiers and other staff are mostly black, and they’re all quite friendly and personable by contrast. Unfortunately I usually avoid the place altogether now because of the price hikes. *by dark I mean black, indian, puerto rican… the campus is diverse
