Not safe, my estranged husband went to the desk and talked them in to giving him keys to my room. He wasn’t on the registry. Only my name was listed as a guest. They game him keys. NOTSAFE. ILLEGAL.

I had the misfortune of having to spend about 2 weeks at the Howard Johnson Clearwater when I first moved to the area. It was AWFUL. I could list dozens of reasons to avoid this hotel, but I will just go over a few: First, staying in the rooms will make you sick. I am unsure if the problem is that they do not clean the rooms properly or if it is that they do not change the air filters in the air conditioning units or if there is some other, unknown, problem, but I had SEVERE allegery problems from the minute that I arrived at the hotel. And it was not just me, as EVERY person I encountered at the hotel had the same symptoms: heavy sniffling, constant coughing and frequent sneezing. The symptoms would ease when I left the room, and I recovered quickly once I checked out of the hotel. Second, the hotel seems to be a central party location for local townies on Friday and Saturday night. On each of the two weekends during which I stayed in the hotel, the loud music(along with the constant talking/yelling on the balcony) made it impossible to sleep. Complaining to the front desk had absolutely no effect. Which brings me to my final point, that the staff is unhelpful and rude. When I checked into the hotel, and told the clerk that I was a professional, in the process of relocating to the area, I was treated with a lecture as to how there are«too many rich professionals» in Florida, and how the state«needs lawyers and bankers to leave». And things got worse from there. There are a few good things about the hotel(the location is decent, the free breakfast is good, the wi-fi is fast), but none of those traits are remotely unique. Further, none add enough value to make it worth staying at the Clearwater HoJo. Avoid it at all costs.
