Cove Cay Golf Club

Maybe there is a reason the grass is so poor, spotty and sparse, especially on the front nine. The back was better. The bare greens rather than tight mowing had them running 12+ on the stimp meter, in my opinion. The layout is challenge enough without adding poor conditions.
But the pace of play was great and the cart ran well.

I have lived in Cove Cay for two and a half years. I played at the course two years ago before the Shivers arrived and I played two weeks ago and I have seen a huge improvement. The Shivers truly have a passion for doing everything they can to improve the golf experience. They even added a weekend golf clinic. There is a science to maintaining a golf course. This is not your backyard lawn; it will take time. This isn’t Augusta National. What the Shivers need is support and encouragement not ridicule for a course they just took over. Considering the time they have had they have made considerable progress. I have not had one problem at the restaurant. EVERYONE has been great. No I wasn’t paid to say all of this. I’m just a resident who feels if the Shivers can do what Rick Perry did for the marina that this is going to be a premier place in the area not to mention property values going up. Would I like to see things like a Marshall, and cart paths repaired, yes but this will take time. Love the new golf carts.

This was my first time ever playing golf, but my husband has played in Hawaii on the famous Kapalua course and he said he would rate this one 4 stars.
The greens were maintained well, the beer girl came around 3x during our 18 holes, the pace was good, the golf carts were nice, and the views of Tampa bay were beautiful.
For the 2 of us, including the cart– it cost $ 60. But if we had played earlier in the day, we could have played at half the price.
Overall, for being my first game, I found it to be an enjoyable time– even if at times it was reminiscent of Easter Egg hunting when I lost my balls.
We will definitely be back.

12÷4÷15 ROund of Golf: I live in Tampa and this was my first time playing Cove Cay. My friend and I had a 0951 tee time. When we arrived we were informed the time was moved to 1009 with no explanation provided as to why the later time. Pace of play was acceptable for season and being behind a foursome; approximately 4.5 hours. It would have been nice to see a ranger in order to monitor pace of play. Also, there’s no encouragement from the club house or starter to incorporate «ready golf». Overall, course condition was good with exception of several tee boxes which need attention. The course is in the midst of a condo complex. A number of the holes are challenging and have views of the bay. The greens are very fast. There was cart service and the staff are very friendly.

The difference in the condition of the course from March of this year to late October is night and day. The new owners have turned this great course around and I am sure by this time next year it will be a 5 star rating.

Great to see Cove Cay course back in good shape… thanks to new owners Bill & Pat Shriver.
All the snowbirds will be quite surprised when they come back, and if you haven’t played this track in a while, please come back. The 5^th hole from the back maybe one of the best par 3s in the state, and the views on the back of Old Tampa Bay are spectacular.

My husband and I are thrilled with the new ownership at the Cove Cay Country Club! They took over a course that was not in good shape and are step by step making improvements to restore the course to its former glory. Its spectacular location on Tampa Bay doesn’t hurt!
The restaurant now has an excellent new menu and we were surprised at the variety and quality. I look forward to giving it five stars as it reaches its potential.

Absolutely love this golf course the staff is very friendly and accommodating club rental was free seems like it will be a very easy course but it can be very challenging. the views are absolutely spectacular highly recommend this course for beginners as well as advanced players

The greens are horrible. That is all you need to know. The course is one of the tightest course and tests your accuracy off the tee. It is a short course but very challenging. The scenery on the back 9 once you get there is beautiful, as it opens up to the bay.
I used to play here frequently but the greens have been bad every time I’ve played recently. Bumpy and sandy, don’t think you can call them «greens». There was no starter on this packed day and players left to figure out there start times and pair up.
Pace of play was super slow as I saw a group of 5 people. This is again due to the lack of no starter.
This course has potential to be a real gem, however the slow play and horrible green conditions make it really not enjoyable. I may have played my last 18 at this course.

I have been playing golf for over 30 years and I have never seen such bad customer service.
The course is terrible, the people don’t care and just treat customers with a horrible distain.
Don’t waste your time or money here.

Golfed there today, overall the course is nice but the greens do need some work. A lot of very short par 3’s but it is a short course. Yardage markers are only painted on the cart path. Pretty surroundings

We turned in our scorecard for a free draft beer at the bar, and it was awesome. The choices of beer are somewhat limited, but after a round of golf any domestic beer tastes good!
The kitchen was about to close, and I asked for a hotdog. I had a choice between a «bar dog» or the hotdog from the kitchen, which is supposedly bigger. I decided to take a chance on the bar dog, and it was AWESOME. I was expecting some smallish cheap no-​brand hotdog, and instead I am pretty sure it was an all beef kosher dog cooked to perfection… and that was the bar dog! I was floored.
Really couldn’t ask for better service with a smile!
