I held off reviewing The Coffee Mill because I thought if I kept going back, it would get better. Today was probably it for me, though. I love coffee shops. As a telecommuter, I love working in coffee shops. Every single time(probably 10 visits, all told) I’ve been in this shop, the TV has been blaring. During the week, it’s something like Dr. Phil or Dr. Oz or some other soapy thing. Today it was football. It would be one thing if the TV were on but not turned up, but it’s always BLARING. It reminds me of a doctor’s office. I’ve also had to wait a few times for the barista to come back from wherever she was. Today, I waited 10 minutes.(Yes, the TV was on and cranked to 11 and the place was empty. Coincidence?) Someone from the Flipside came in through the employees’ entrance, looked at me, and left. I waited another five minutes and then wandered around until I found someone. Then my Americano tasted weak and kind of «off.» There’s no excuse for weak Americano, and the off flavor was something almost chemical-tasting. I took two drinks and tossed it. It would be super to have a legit local coffee shop(like Global Village or Sola) in Clayton, but I’m going back to the Clayton Café for now. Boo, Coffee Mill! I wanted to love you!

Easy to locate just off Main St, I was visiting my folks in Clayton and needed my morning cup. Great coffee, awesome service & a very nice atmosphere. I’ll def return to Coffee Mill when I need my cup in Clayton! I noticed they also offered baked goods and I assume other types of food but on this trip I just needed java. If you’re thirsty or just need a caffeine pick up, try Coffee Mill; you won’t be disappointed!

I can’t give this place any more than 3 stars. I’ve only been once and I ordered a special on the board and when I tasted it the coffee tasted old and bitter. I will say the blueberry muffin I purchased was pretty good. I wanted to love this place as coffee shops local are few and far between in clayton :-/will have to try again

As a regular here at the Coffee Mill I typically walk in and ask who ever is working to just make me whatever they feel like and have yet to b disappointed. The coffee is always good and fresh. It never taste burnt which is always my biggest pet peeve in coffee shops. Today is like any other typical day. I came in, an was now on my 2nd cup of coffee when this lemon blueberry cake walked across the room in front of me. I typically only order cake when I know it’s going to be good but in a place where every time I walk in I just ask them to make me something I was like I have to have it. First off it was very moist which is a must in any cake but then he makes in the lemon in the blueberries together you could just feel yourself refreshing and relaxing. Parent with a nice iced almond Joy coffee and you feel like you’re in a land like no other!

Decided to pop into the Coffee Mill this morning to grab a drink on this hot, busy day. Found out a few things: 1.) They’ve changed their supplier of coffee from Larry’s Beans to Full Bloom Micro-Roasters in Garner, NC( ): A company I didn’t know existed, but am keeping an eye on in the future. Didn’t have time to discuss the change with the owner, but it’s equal, if not superior to the coffee they were previously serving. More on that in a moment. 2.) They’ve dropped the available selections to a single bean, whole-caf, a decaf, and a flavored coffee. Makes sense, as they have plenty of flavors in syrup available if you’re in the mood for another experience. On to the coffee. Full Bloom is committed to organic, fair trade coffee. That’s occasionally a consideration for me, but I’m not walking out of a store if they don’t have it. I was initially bummed to see the selection of the day was Organic Sumatra. I worked as a barista for a few years, and brewing Sumatra Mandheling was always an experience in muddy, super-earthy coffee. The shop I worked at used mid-high quality beans, but it wasn’t ever evident in the Sumatra. So, I reluctantly ordered a large cup of it(live dangerously). From the first sip, I knew something was different. It was smooth and bright. Honestly, it was a pleasure to drink. A huge shout out for the switch, keeping it local, fair trade, and organic… and being really, really good. Still four stars and creeping higher. Next time, I’ll have to see what the revamped espresso tastes like. Definitely ensuring I make more trips here.

Great coffee, friendly service. Their pricing is a little too high for Clayton… especially with a DD and Starbucks just down the street that are cheaper.

A real hometown coffee shop. As a rustic décor but a great array of beverages. If you are looking for a quiet place to meet friends or read a book, this is an interesting shop without a cookie-cutter corporate atmosphere.

I never make it out here as much as I’d like, but I enjoy stopping in at the Coffee Mill for a drink now and then. It’s got a nice rustic atmosphere, and I really dig the layout of this small coffee shop. My only complaint is the hours — I’m much more likely to go out for coffee in the evenings to sit and study, and I’ve noticed this place closes early! If you’re a morning person, though, definitely stop in sometime and check it out.

Great place, I love the atmosphere. The service and coffee are both pretty good, and the prices aren’t half bad.

Used to go there to work(worked from home). The wifi was good but it could get too noisy in the mornings to work. Plus it’s kind of small to even have a laptop and backpack. Coffee’s good and service is good. I had some kind of breakfast thing there. The bruscetta just wasn’t cutting it. Whatever the breakfast thing was it had onions where normally there aren’t onions so it wasn’t good.
