Although the portions were good, especially for the kids menu, I think they pinch pennies a lot — like only giving one bowl of chips per table, and having you choose between rice or beans on a $ 17 fajita plate. BUT — Sunday night is family night, so we made out like bandits!

Not Mexican food, at least not the way it should be. Quesadilla is a grilled cheese essentially and the beans and rice have zero flavor. Fajitas are similarly wooden and chewy, and ceviche is bland and watery. No go.

Came here for food en route to upstate New York on a weekday for lunch, and place was like 80% empty. Their chairs and décor were beautiful though, and I could tell this would be a great place for a celebration/fiesta of some sort. I got the Chile Relleno for lunch(since I had never had it before) and my friend got the Enchiladas Poblanas — both were decidedly giant portions. Mine was, unsurprisingly, quite spicy with melted cheese spilling out of the stuffed pepper. The taco shell was hard and I put my beans in there, but failed miserably so ended up just eating them separately with the fork. Guac salad was tangy and creamy, just as it should be. Friend’s enchiladas with mole sauce(according to him) was«surprisingly good» as well.

This is my pit stop when I am going to the big Apple. It’s perfect place to pull over from 81 and have a stretch or two and refill your calories.

Went here for dinner tonight. Place was quiet. About 40% full at 8 pm. Staff was great and very attentive. Ordered Burrito Deluxe which was above average. Chips and cheese sauce were very good. Salsa was ok. Had a beer to top it off for $ 20.

Your classic canned food Mexican, just the type an American would think an American would want. Unfortunately that’s not true. Very boring presentation on the plate of very boring food

Thought the food was very good. I got the Hawaiian fajitas which was not something I’ve ever had before and they were delicious. The presentation was also very nice since they brought the food out in a pineapple. My husband also enjoyed his chicken chimichanga. And they brought out fried ice cream since it was his birthday. The meal came out to about $ 30. Overall I’d say this was a great stop and would definitely recommend.

The food is really good, but I like the salsa and guacamole much better at the Dickson City location. It is convenient, because it’s in my town, so I go there from time to time.

I made a Unilocal account just so I could write a review of this restaurant and my experience there. Overall this is the worst restaurant I have ever eaten at. Here’s why: 1. From the time we sat down to the time we got our food it was nearly an hour. 2. When we finally did get our food I can say with near certainty, as someone who has worked in the restaurant industry, that our food was prefrozen and microwaved. 3. Although this practice is normal throughout the industry, this food was terrible. The chicken in the enchiladas was dry and rubbery. Neither my girlfriend nor I could stomach more than one of the three soggy awful excuses for enchiladas that were provided at a cost not worth the quality of food. 4. We were genuinely disappointed that the«mexican» food we were craving couldn’t be found at this restaurant. If you’re in the area I suggest you keep driving. Even the Moe’s just down the street has to be better than this place.

Good cheese dip. Beef and cheese enchiladas were better than most though chicken was average. Definitely would pass by again when in town. Food was fresh.

Avoid at all costs. To start, no toilet paper in the bathrooms, one soap dispenser empty, one sink broken. Took 15 minutes to be visited by our waitress. Thirty minutes for nachos and a soft taco? Get real. Nachos were burnt and mediocre. Keep driving.

This place does not even know what Green Chili Verde is. After educating the server and relaying back to the cook they got it. Food came out amazing and like anything you have to let them know what you want. I would come back. The Animal

With the amount of small authentic Mexican restaurants that we have in the area La Tonalteca is not where I would choose to go. The food anything but authentic. Since when is a hard shelled taco with ground beef authentic? It is overrated. Don’t waste your money go to Garibaldi or Chicano’s instead.

On our way back from Niagara Falls to NJ, we were craving for some comfort food. Pulled into this exit, planning to go to another Mexican chain restaurant as we were familiar with it. When we saw this restaurant, we thought of exploring. The service was very courteous. WE were very pleasantly surprised to see a special section for vegetarian options! The waitress explained the many new items on the menu and made recommendations too. Glad we went with it, because everything we orered was simply great! From the salsa that accompanied the chips to the dessert, everything tasted fresh and delicious! We were chomping the food down like there was no tomorrow :). Wish they had it in NJ. Would have certainly frequented!

A Saturday dinner search piqued our interest in this new place(to us). Tables topped with paintings and wonderful chair backs of relief scenes that are brightly painted. Good salsa for the four of us, rich in cilantro, plus, the usual chips. Fajita Picantes was a good, healthy choice for one of us, on a sizzling platter. Molcajete Mexicana shocked us with a hot caldron(«lava rock bowl») of marinated chicken, steak and chorizo(dryish), long-stalk onions, red pepper strips, avocado slices, with a tasty sauce in the bowl and tortillas on the side. It was a hit. A Combo Dinner $ 9.99 — choices — settled on 2 burritos = one chicken and one beef. Both open-ended and skimpy fillings, but decent tasting. Comes with their rice(with some carrot) and the typical refried beans. Finally, the Appetizer Sampler $ 9.99. 2 chicken quesadilla triangles, 3 big jalapeño poppers, both OK, but the pork taquitos and beef chimichangas were very skimpily-filled! A dish of creamy dip was OK. «Served with chips — NOT. Service was just OK in a nearly empty restaurant.

You’ve probably been to many places like this. It’s nothing too special, and more on the Tex-Mex side of things, but the food is fine and the iced tea comes in a huge cup. Only weird thing was my tamal came covered in enchilada sauce. Is that normal?
