If you are one of those uppity artsy fartsy type of people that compare everything to big city museums, STOPREADINGNOW because you are just going to talk shit later! Petterson Museum is located in a place called Pilgrim Place, a retirement community dedicated mainly to people of the cloth, that is, those who served in religious duties in some form or another. This museum, is nothing more than two rooms full of drinking vessels from all over the world. This is basically a private collection donated by people living in this community, stuff that they’ve brought back with them while on mission trips abroad. Honestly, you can do this in about 5 minutes if you just want to look at the items, but if you REALLY want to look at their collection, maybe about 30 minutes. They’ve got items from Japan, China, Persia, Mexico, and Peru to name just a few. What made the visit for me was talking to a man by the name of Dick that was sitting there in the museum. He was a pleasure to talk to and seemed to know a a lot about some of the pieces in there, as well as general history. Finding this place will be a little mission though. Pilgrim Place is just off of Indian Hill and 7th, not too far from Foothill, and is right off of Berkeley. Google Maps tells you to turn on a street called Alden, but Alden is INSIDE the community, so don’t panic if you hit Berkely and can’t find Alden. Just look for the Pilgrim Place and Petterson signs and you’ll be good to go.
