My family has been coming here for over 20 years. One of our favorites when we get together. Management is the absolute sweetest. When my husband and I go out for a date night, the waitresses always ask after our family. The food is crazy good!

Very very very dirty. Tables sticky, all condiments on the table(soy sauce) and others like vinegar/vinegar in glass container, I asked what was in the container? She said vinegar, then I asked why is there all this stuff floating, she then said she did not know and would take it to wash out side and put new vinegar in. The door to go into kitchen was so dirty(black hand prints) the bathroom was also filthy, walked out and waited till I got home. I have more to say but I think you got the message.

We were pleasantly surprised about this small hidden place. The authentic Chinese food and the American style were great. The servicebwas good. Our waitress was shy but very kind and attentive. All the dishes were great!

I was fooled by their sign outside that reads«Mongolian– Authentic Chinese Food». Mongolian and Chinese food are not even the same thing. I did not like the food here at all. The Mongolian beef they have at the mall food courts taste better than this place and it’s cheaper too. The only difference is that this place serves wontons, egg rolls, fried shrimp, and their special bread on the side with your order. I took a bite into their wonton and egg roll and couldn’t even finish it. All I tasted was old/reused cooking oil, and it was drenched in it. I don’t understand the people that actually come and eat here. FYI, we were the only Asians there. That should’ve been another red flag.

Oh my God! What happened to one of the longest and greatest Mongolian BBQ place on Foothill Blvd? Did someone die and cursed this place? Mongolian Barbeque has been an institution in Claremont for over 30 years and I have going there since a student at Harvey Mudd and now teaching at the Claremont Colleges. I have seen changes as new owners came and went but the consistency of the food has never changed. I did some fellow work and came back to find that the old Asian man who used to sit in the first booth to greet people was no longer there and different girls serving who were not in the usual black vests and white blouses, kind of like uniforms. I sat down and the meat fare was turkey, beef, chicken and pork. I was told I was lucky because they just in chicken. I didn’t tell them that 20 years ago, they used to serve lamb and not turkey. How bad could it be? I went up to the vegetable and spices line to stack up the bowl. The vegetable looked a bit stale but when everything gets put on the huge skillet, it all gets cooked brown. It was during the return that I was presented with what has to be the cheapest rice I have ever tasted, kind of like stale with a hint of gasoline. I dismissed eating rice. The soup was not that good either, stopped at one spoonful. I ate the cooked fare and it was OK. As I looked around, I realized there wasn’t that many people like it used to be around 12 noon. The tea was very weak and not hot. Rather than waiting for another pot, I drank the water with my meal. The new owners have ruined this place of memories. One look at the fortune cookie that was not whitish yellow but rather dull brown, I didn’t open it as I always have as the last parting flavor with hot tea that I never got. What happened? Am I the only one who sees what has happened to Claremont’s institution where students used to come in and celebrate good grades or teachers rendezvous to affairs? Before I left for home I experienced a wretching pain resulting in a visit to the campus health center. Never again.

I didn’t like the food here at all. Rather get chinese takeout or fast food than this. Whoever likes the food here, probably has no taste buds and doesn’t know what good food is, not even one bit.

This is the worst Mongolian bbq i have ever been to. The cook does not clean grill and I can see pieces of burned black stuff on my food!!! The soup is gross no flavor, the egg roll is burned also. Not recommending at all

This is a pretty good Mongolian place. Lunch is decent price but their selection and how everything is cooked is pretty good. There’s no way of saying how the taste is because it tastes the way you want it to taste. Overall great experience.

I’ve been coming here for almost 20 years. When I started boarding school in the area, it was literally the first meal I had before I stepped on campus and it was the last meal I had right after I walked for graduation. I continued to make trips there throughout college and it is my mandatory pitstop whenever I drive to Vegas. In the past 17 years, Mongolian BBQ hasn’t changed one single bit… and that’s a really good thing. (EDIT: One thing that’s changed is the mens restroom is much nicer now.) There are two things that make this Mongolian BBQ place stand out from the rest — the house sweet & sour sauce, and the pocket biscuits. The house sweet & sour sauce is great on everything there: the eggrolls, the fried wontons, and the entrée you customize. The pocket biscuits are awesome too; they are ALWAYS served fresh. Why are they called«pocket biscuits»? Because you nibble off one of the edges and get to stuff your Mongolian BBQ inside of it. It took me a few years to figure that out and I constantly see other customers not eating it properly. If you end up liking the pocket biscuits as much as I do, just get the all-you-can-eat option so you can get it as much as you want. One pro tip from a 17-year loyal customer: To maximize the amount of food you get with you entrée, fill up your bowl with meat, then use a napkin(conveniently provided at the prep station) to compact the meat into the bowl. If you get a basic dinner option, you’ll be surprised how much food you can stuff into your one bowl.

The Mongolian Barbeque located on Foothill Blvd in Claremont has been an institution for decades. Even with changes of ownership, the same quality level of food has remained until now. The new owners have failed to keep the level and quality of the food as all the past owners have maintained that kept customers coming for many many years despite the fact that they have moved away from the area. For nearly 40 years, I have stopped by to enjoy the consistency of a favorite place in Claremont along with many others who visit the location. What has changed in the many years? They used to serve lamb, turkey, chicken, beef and pork. Now they serve fatty beef, chicken and pork. The white rice is the lowest grade possible without the grains falling apart. In fact one Cordon Bleu chef stated that he wouldn’t eat it because it was very old stored rice, pet food grade. Wow. The service was not the same as the last owner’s daughters who were cheerful and pleasant. They even remembered me after a while along with the guests I would bring. The pocket bread was burnt and soup was uneventful. The fortune cookie told all. The fortune paper appeared to have been oil soaked from old age when the oil from the fortune cookie seeped onto the paper. I had to remove the initially chewed piece of fortune cookie onto a napkin. Never did that before. Stale very old fortune cookie that should have been thrown away that the new owners put out for customers is telling of their new management style. I cannot recommend this former, go to, place in good conscience. This is so sad.

OK at best, limited veggie selection and somewhat dingy inside. Will not go out of my way to eat here again

At one point I had thought this place had closed down, imagine my delight when I found out it was still open. I have been going to this restaurant for 15+ years. There is no place better, that I have been to, if you just want simple Mongolian styled Asian cuisine. The place is retro to the point that it almost looks dive-y but I still enjoy it. The wait staff is extremely nice. I met one of the managers on our last visit. Nice young man whose family has owned the restaurant for 30+ years I believe. The prices are good compared to other«Mongolian» style restaurants I’ve been to. The all-you-can-eat is around $ 15 and you get soup and appetizers included. The shaved meat variety is straight forward: Turkey, Chicken, Beef and Pork. There could be more variety of veggies… but what they do have there is classic and fresh tasting. I’ve been to other«Mongolian» styled restaurants, and they were good, but I think this place is the best tasting for the money. When I go to a «Mongolian» restaurant, I want MONGLIAN Asian style food… I don’t want to be tempted with Italian, or American or other style cuisines all done on the giant cooking surface. 5 Stars

I really loved the food and service, but I had to dock a point because I don’t recall seeing any item on the menu that included noodles with their all you can eat(so sad)! If I’m wrong, please correct me because I would love to go back(seriously guys, their food was awesome) but I just can’t do it without noodles! Anywho, got the bowl to go and they had a huge selection of veggies and meats to choose from(what you’d expect from a typical Mongolian buffet), as usual the chef cooked it right up in front of us and then they packaged it all up for us to go! We also received some great wontons and egg rolls along with 4 thick rolls of their bread(I didn’t like it but my boyfriend thought it was amazing). Ambiance is a little dark(no windows), but I totally dig that, nice décor for the most part and overall pretty cozy! All in all, I wouldn’t mind returning here, service was awesome, price was average, and food was awesome!

You come in and choose the combo you want to eat based on the sides that you choose. You then walk to the back of the restaurant and pick up a bowl and load it with everything you want. Choose your meat: Turkey, Chicken, Beef, Pork. So the key to getting more meat is once in the bowl use a napkin(to not contaminate the food I suppose) to push down on the meat so that there is a lot more space for the veggies. Mind you, this meat is just sitting out on a freezing table next to the vegetables and spices. Anyways, next up after the meats is the vegetables and noodles and then the spices and oils. They give you the recipe to make your dish a little spicy, medium spicy and very spicy. After everything is in the bowl give it to the chef to grill it on the huge skillet. The food is ready within minutes and you’re on your way. The service I feel is pretty good and the employees are extremely kind and helpful. I just can’t get passed the fact that I became ill after eating this food. Almost immediately I got sick, and I don’t know if I’m to blame the meat just being out in the open like it is or if it’s the veggies and oils being in the open like they are. Maybe it’s the fact that the kitchen doesn’t appear to be very sanitary despite the A grade that I saw.
