As I stated in my review of Waterfront Surgery Center, I had an endoscopy done to see if I have Barrett’s Esophagus, a condition caused by acid reflux that has a chance of leading to esophageal cancer. It’s heavy stuff. After I had the endoscopy, I was told I’d know in 3 – 5 days, and that«no news is good news,» meaning that I’d be in the clear if I didn’t get a phone call. This past Friday, 3 weeks to the day of my endoscopy, I got a voicemail from someone at South Hills Gastroenterology Associates asking me to call the office. Over the course of 3 business days, I called the phone number given at least a dozen times only to get a busy signal. When I finally got someone on the line, I was told that I have Barrett’s Esophagus. When I asked why it took 3 weeks as opposed to 5 days to give me this bad news, I was told that«the doctor was out.» What was my cost, even with insurance through my employer? Close to $ 250. Life: It’s not fair. For-profit medicine: It’s unfair, expensive, AND inept. Thanks guys.
