University Nail

Worst polish job ever. I should have paid attention to all the reviews… I came home and took the polish off it looked so horrible.
Beware!!!

University Nails was a very welcome addition to Clifton Gaslight when it opened almost a decade ago. It has since taken a hard fall over the past couple of years. The new management has let the nail salon get dirty and disheveled in appearance and severely understaffed. Also, one lady manager is nice, overworked, and spends a lot of time apologizing. The other female manager is rude and naps in pedicure spa chairs while a wait accumulates at the door. Also, I find it annoying that the nail techs have their personal phones next to them and text and answer them while working on clients. This place needs some basic improvements.

Hated the service. Simple gel polish gone wrong. Bumps and lumps all over. No manicure and I had to fight with the owner on what I wanted. NEVER waste your $$ like I did! :(

By far theeee worst nail place I’ve been to, and I’m a really open minded person. When I walked in one was there except one customer it was a dead zone! There was a lady in the back at the pedi chairs sleep! I was thinking to myself am I in the right place! There was a guy outside when i walked in smoking a cigarette his name was jack he ended up doing my toe polish change, he did a decent job and was full of jokes. After getting my polish change he proceeded to do my shellac Mani and it was just so bad he even made my cuticles bleed and I didn’t even flip out. While getting my Mani the other girl there was complaining about her nails being uneven and the lady doing her nails was super rude yelling «what do you want me to do!!!» What color do you want!!!” And the young lady was so shocked that she was getting such bad service she asked for the manger! Jack said to me she is the manager! I thought to myself oh lord this this horrible! Jack stepped in to fix the girls nails leaving me there seating because the other worker was sleep! Hahaha the manager with bad customer service finished up my Mani and it was so bad and thick… They did not know what the hell they where doing needs to be closed!!! When I left another customer was coming in complaining STAY AWAY!!!

I only gave this place 4 stars so it would show up on the reviews! It should never have 4 stars based on the 12 1 star reviews it has at the bottom of the page (it says they are filtered by Unilocal because of the millions of reviews they receive… It’s just strange that it is only the negative reviews that are filtered!)
This salon use to be wonderful before the new owner & staff… Now it is dirty, polishes are old, staff barely understand & talk between themselves.
I stopped coming but thought I would give them another chance today… While here a customer from earlier in the day came back with complaints about their nails… The owner just walked away from them & started working on someone else! Then shouted at them to call the police if they had a problem because they were not going to refund the $$! Very awkward for those of us sitting there!
It’s 5 pm on Friday… And no one is here! There use to be a wait & any other salon on a Friday has a wait… That says a lot!

A decent, long-​lasting pedi and gel manicure. I agree with other reviewers that the polish choices are old and dried out. The employees are very casual, not focused on your experience. At least they take their time and do a good job. I’ll come back, but not for a spa experience. Prices are fair.

I needed a last minute gel manicure and regular pedicure. This place was convenient and decent. It is an average nail salon with an above average foot massage. I appreciated the extra time. My only criticism is the really poor quality and selection of polish. If they got newer products and a better color selection they would certainly go to a 5 star. I don’t believe you have to pay a lot to get a lot for nails. Usually high end spas are nice because of ambiance and product, that’s all. Overall better than good place.

I was having really good results when i first started going. Then a two hour wait and getting my nails beds nearly ripped off I thought a lot different.

This place was horrible, I will never go back! The girl didn’t talk to me at all instead she spoke to everyone else doing nails in the shop, and her cell phone was ringing off the hook! I was getting a fill in and she cut 2 of my fingers with the drill and made me bleed and on top of that she was not wearing gloves. So I will not be back

This place is crappy at work and unbelievably rude at basic people satisfaction in a incredibly competitive service industry.
The only good thing is its cheaper than standard salons and spa but not that cheap. For them it meant everything is cheap including the shoddy work they do and how they treat people.
My wife nails were done and with on 2 hour the paint started chipping off. i called them within hrs and they wanted to come «right now» drop everything and come. I told them i am at work and cam come back next day or so but was calling to inform. but they were clear «well then forget about it». hell ya. instead of being apologetic they were like yeah whatever… Very disappointed, never again to this place

Great place. Very clean. Very nice staff and my nails have lasted a long time :)
