I’ve been a fan of Taste of Belgium in Findlay market since I first moved to Cincy. They have, hands down, one of the most delicious(and addictive) waffle recipes I’ve encountered. So, I was excited to try their bigger venue at OTR. Sadly, the flavor of the dishes we ordered didn’t met our expectations. We ordered the mussels au gratin and chicken and waffles, and although edible, the dishes where bland and boring, and were not memorable at all. Service was good.

I would never have imagined I would liked a ham and cheese waffle sandwich. The thought of the waffles being cold really ruined it for me. However, I was WRONG. so wrong. The waffles are crisp and lightly sweet. With the savory flavors of the sandwich — it couldn’t have been more perfect. I look forward to coming here again(and again) specifically to try the chicken and waffles everyone raves about!

Great breakfast. We were a party of 6 that came in around 1130 am and told they had a 50 minute wait. Since we really wanted to try them out we decided to go ahead do the 50 minute wait. It was good since it gave us an excuse to walk around do a little window shopping. We’ll we ended up buying stuff at OTR. We got seated in the«backroom» with high tables and high chairs, and where we could actually watch them making the waffles and crepes which was really cool. We had a variety of orders ranging from the Goetta hash, Brunch burger, McWaffle, Waffle N Chicken and a Vegetarian Crêpe. They have good coffee and the entrees were great and enjoyable. What I really appreciated was how patient they were with one of our members in our group who has a wheat/gluten sensitivity and soy allergy. They really worked something out for her which was the Vegetarian Crêpe which gluten and soy-free. Despite the long wait we were glad we ate there and felt it was worth the wait. Thanks so much.

Not sure what all the fuss is about. First off — the waffles. What are these things?! The waffle dough was a weird thick, cake-like consistency and lacked flavor. My one waffle came with an order of ‘Waffle and Chicken’ for $ 12. At least the piece of chicken was a decent size with my one crummy waffle. The chicken was also very odd. Instead of a breast or a wing it was ‘schnitzel’ style — pounded flat chicken, breaded and some not-so-hot hot sauce was added. Dull. The best thing on this plate was the tiny arugula salad. Also, after asking the server which of the sweet crepes was the most delightful, I ordered the salty caramel and walnut crêpe. Literally, just walnuts and caramel. Nuts inside, caramel on the outside. I’ve been blown away by many a crêpe, but not this one. Besides the best crêpe I’ve had being in Paris, France, some really delightful ones(stuffed with more than nuts or nutella and bananas… snooze) are made in Indianapolis at 3 Days in Paris and Brugge. My friend and I shared these two items. A glass of sangria was ordered by my friend and I had a few sips. It was decent. Absolutely no issue with service. All good there. Didn’t even have to wait long since two people left the bar as we were talking with the hostess. FYI: you’re gonna have a wait around peak brunch hours. Or if you are a fan of these weird cakey waffles, they sell them ‘to-go’. A great ‘L’eggo my eggo’ offense. I am a huge macaron fan. They have those at ToB, but I did not indulge. Next time I’m in OTR I may skip a real meal and try one of those. Hopefully it won’t be the consistency of a cake!

I enjoyed visiting the Taste of Belgium! This is a delicious brunch, breakfast, and dinner place. It’s like an all-day(or evening) breakfast. If someone desires a meal other than breakfast, they also have pizzas and sandwiches. Their menu has mostly waffles, crepes(sweet or savory), specialty coffees and teas. I chose a savory crêpe this time: the ‘Nati(which is filled with egg, goetta, roasted peppers & onions, and Havarti cheese). It tasted incredibly rich, tender, and had the right mix of oil and Havarti cheese. I hadn’t tasted such a well-cooked crêpe, so this was a great food experience! For dine-in, they have limited seating, so having a reservation will help a lot! There’s a bar counter, so this is a great place to hang-out with a friend. We also enjoyed the helpful and fast-paced service. Definitely visit sometime!

I first tasted their waffles in Columbus, OH at the North Market location. This was my first time going into one of their restaurants for their full menu. I was very impressed! Being located in my hometown gets you three stars automatically! The other two were won as soon as the plates were set before me! The food is very fresh and flavorful and I see this place being in business for a very long time!

So the food tastes good, but the service needs work. Everyone loves these waffles… everyone except me… I mean, they are good I guess, I just don’t get all the hoopla. Maybe its just not my cup o’tea…the steak frittes however! YES! Now thats my jam… That being said, T of B is never my first choice of eating establishments, its a little to trendy for my liking, a little pricey for what you get and the majority of the employees there seem to be the«too serious for there own good millennial»(also, I may or may not have gotten into an argument with a young man working the pastry counter because he wouldn’t give me change for our meter)…now that I’ve gotten that out… Should you ever find yourself at T of B, order the steak frittes. Its good. Its crispy and buttery and paired with a small side salad drizzled with balsamic. The bloody marys are’t bad either, although not the best I’ve had. They also serve Stella Cidre, which does move them up a notch in my book. Overall, the owner/chefs know what they are doing here, it just takes me some getting past the outer layers to actually enjoy the food.

Taste of Belgium has its roots at Findlay Market, when in 2007 chef Jean François-Flechet began making waffles in the back of a produce shop. This is a very stylish café serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Leige-style Belgian waffles, filled crepes and bakery items. Full bar! I really liked this place.

Well Sunday was busy so i saw an open seat at the bar and bypassed the 1 hour wait. I recommend the bar too. The servers were so friendly and helpful with menu questions! Also, they were knowledgeable about the restaurant and city history! That is always important for a tourist. Chicken and waffles review! Apparently the biz got started with a stand and were instantly popular because of their unique waffle. It was so good. I have never had a waffle that was made with a dough. It also has sugar crystals in it. It was thee sweetest tasting waffle I ever ate. It was small but drnse and filling. And the chicken complimented the extreme sweet perfectly. It had a savory salty and spicy combination that blended with the waffle like heaven in my mouth. And it was boneless which made it so easy to eat with a knife and fork! Even the small greens blended well. A+ in book!

We waited 2 hours to be seated but it was worth the hype and the wait. Apparently no matter which location you go to the wait is always long. However, if you go to this location and wait you can visit all of the cool stores that are in the neighborhood. Since we were a party of 6 we were sat at a communal table. Being from Cleveland, there are lots of restaurants that have picked up on this theme of seating. The people on the other side of the table looked less than pleased that other people were sitting near them(get over it, grumpy brunch eaters). My sister and I decided to each order something and split it so we could try more than one item. We opted for the McWaffle and a Ham sandwich that included 3 cheeses, apples with a bechamel sauce(I can’t find it on the menu). I loved both items equally. My friend who suggested this restaurant is obsessed with the chicken and waffles and after having a bite I now know why. They are outstanding! I think this is a good place to check out but with the wait times, I can’t say that I would come back as often as other brunch spots.

I know this is crazy, but I just wrote a review for Taste of Belgium on Edwards. It was more of a coincidence going to another Taste of Belgium location on the very same day for a different meal. Intending to go to another restaurant on Vine Street as I’d already tried Taste of Belgium at another location earlier in the day, we were quoted an hour wait in a tiny, loud restaurant, so we walked down the street and came upon this other location and decided that since brunch was so good, why not try out dinner? At 9 pm on a Saturday, this place had a good amount of people in it, but was by no means too busy. We got a quiet table in a corner up front and were able to people watch. I’m really glad we ended up at this place again, because it was 9 pm and I’d finally get to try some of their Belgian beers they had. Our server was kind, prompt, and honestly, super easygoing. He could tell we just wanted to have a relaxing dinner and drink beer after a long day, and it was such a good place to go to do that. My girlfriend and I had their Machine Gun sandwich and their mussels & frites. The sandwich had merguez on it, which is a lamb sausage. It was really rich, but pretty phenomenal. The mussels & frites were really good, but like the hash I had from earlier in the day, they were thick-cut fries… those aren’t the frites you should get with moules frites at a Belgian place! The aioli they served with it was delicious, but the fries got me… a bit of a bummer! The beer was stellar, though. They had St. Feuillien, a beer I’ve had back home in Louisville and can’t get enough of. As well, they had this other Belgian saison that had hints of banana and clove that was so flavorful but refreshing like a wheat beer. I only wish we had a place in Louisville as devoted to Belgian beers as this place is!

I’m never disappointed when I eat here. I usually come for lunch or dinner, but I finally stopped in for breakfast. I got the banana Nutella waffle and it was heavenly. I also got a side of bacon. I was visiting Cincinnati with a friend and I kept hearing how Taste of Belgium was THE place to go for breakfast. We arrived early, and there were only a few people. They wanted to sit us by the window, but it was cold, so we requested a seat farther inside, but it seemed like a huge inconvenience for the hostess. Upon sitting down it took a while for anyone to come to our table. Normally I would just say oh, service is slower, but I was seeing a bunch of tables that came in after us get waited on and receive water. I think there might have been a breakdown in communication. We finally got a waitress and she was sweet and took our order right away. I got coffee and the ham and brie waffle sandwich, and my friend got a latte and the traditional crêpe. Everything came out rather quickly. The crêpe was ok, but the ham was sliced way too thick in comparison to the crêpe. It was overwhelming and made what could have been a tender crêpe appear chewy. As for my sandwich… it had such potential, but I’m completely mystified as to why this was served cold? The flavors would have married much better if the cheese was melting and gooey, and the apple was a contrasting cold crunch. The amount of toppings other than ham were disappointing as well. There was 1 apple slice and a postage stamp sized piece of brie for the whole sandwich. The waffles were cold as well, which made them very stiff and dry. I’m hoping maybe we just ordered the wrong thing, but there are definitely some improvements that could be made to the food. The saving grace that got this place 3 stars instead of 2 was the to go coffee.

My new favorite Cinci downtown restaurant. I took a customer there for lunch and liked it so much, I came back that night for dinner. For lunch, our waiter, Dan, made excellent recommendations. I had the waffle and chicken — - a really nice sweet & spicy combination. It starts out with a homemade Belgian waffle— nice vanilla malt flavor, but very dense and even chewy. The chicken was lightly breaded with a Buffalo sauce coating, but not too spicy. My only regret was not ordering a beer. That’s why I came back for their AYCE Mussels on Tuesdays. A couple of nice high octane Belgium Ales on draft to go along with the large pot of mussels. You can get them in 2 ways— traditional with tomato, white wine and garlic — - OR — - a creamy curry sauce. I started out with the traditional since I wasn’t about to be too daring on the first order. They were great. Big pot of mussels with a nice flavorful broth accompanied by a large order of french fries with a spicy aoli sauce in place of ketchup. For my second order, I had the creamy curry which was awesome. My only regret was not ordering this first. Somehow, cream, curry and mussels just go very well together.

I’ve never been to Belgium. But if the food tastes anything like this — well, then, Kazoo!!! Sunday Brunch. And the place was pretty packed. People here, people there, a line of people everywhere. No, not everywhere. I lied about that. But at the register there was a pretty hefty line. But, hey, we zipped on through and got seated in no time. Right beside the ‘Enter through other door’ Door. *that will come into play later* Then, the waitress. Funny, friendly, on us like a pair of sneakers. We ordered up. It probably took 15 minutes to get our meals out. I ordered the Machine Gun –Merguez, pickled onions, frites, chipotle mayo, rustic bread($ 13) — which came with fries. So Mmm-Mmm good. I want more. I’ll probably go back and get some. Soon. Anyway. Tried a Waffle. Dense. Thick. Nutty. And, pretty darn good. Not like the stuff you’d get out of a box. That fake manufactured stuff that taste like you licked the bottom of a shoe. This was the real deal. I didn’t try the chicken — wanted to – but my buddy scarfed it down. Which means he’s greedy. Which also means it must’ve been to good to give up. So… Overall, awesome. Now the door. If you exit the ‘Enter Through the other Door,’ Door, make sure you watch your step. I sat there and watched a lady almost break her foot off at her ankle when she exited because she didn’t realize there was a step. Beware.

I came here because my friend and I were in town and he’d recently seen this place on a food show. I was of course pumped to get some delicious food and usually the places from shows are on point, which is how they ended up on the show to begin with, so the bar was set high here. Overall the service was great and the place was good, but the food just wasn’t amazing. I had a salad which was lackluster and a crêpe which was good, but not melt in your mouth Belgium style good. I’d go back here again, nothing negative to say other than that the bar for the food had been set at great and all that was delivered was slightly south of good.

It’s been a while since I went, but the only things that are salient are the wait and rude management. The food portions were small for the price but yummy. If you’re visiting, be careful not to steer away too far north(past the Kroger) during the wait because it does get sketchy pretty quickly. My boyfriend and I walked to Washington Park and that was lovely!

My 15-year-old cousin named Taste of Belgium the place she wanted to visit when I took her out for the day. So we hit up the Clifton location, and it didn’t disappoint. I was hesitant to visit because I equate the restaurant with sickly-sweet creations, but I went along with it because I don’t see her often. My cousin ordered a s’mores waffle and side of bacon. I got their grilled chicken sandwich. The sandwich was so fresh and flavorful that it didn’t take me long to demolish both it, and the thick-cut fries provided. My cousin cleared her plate, which was impressive for such a finicky eater. After our lunch, I purchased a few bags of the pre-packaged waffles that they sell at their counter. Our bill was rather high, which is why I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5. I suppose that it’s on me that I didn’t pay more attention, but I just found it to be pricey for two meals and the waffles. I would definitely go to Taste of Belgium again, but perhaps with my husband so he can foot the bill this time.

It is all that it’s cracked up to be. Yes, Taste of Belgium serves up one of the best chicken & waffle dishes I’ve ever had. Pair the delicious eats with sweet service and quaint surroundings and it’s no wonder why this is one of Cincy’s gems. I was lucky enough hit up ToB on a weekday late morning and thus was spared from(what I’ve heard can be) a pretty deep wait. Cindy G and I sidled up to the bar and ordered up. While I had pretty moderate expectations, the chicken was phenomenal — tender bird pounded thin with flavorful, crispy breading(but not too much!), topped with a mix of syrup and hot sauce. This was paired perfectly with the savory herb waffle on the side. Textures and flavors were spot on! Plus, there was a little side salad that provided a bit of fresh greens to boot. I was ferociously hungry when I arrived at ToB and I left delightfully content. Way to represent, Cincy.

I love having a refreshing glass of water and, with my moules X frites, all I could think of is when the beautiful bearded bartender would refill my glass. Amazing. We were there shortly after Guy Fiera… any one know when that show will air? Comfort food at it’s finest. I usually go with whatever is «special» that day but on our last visit I had the Chicken and Waffles. Just the right amount of sweet and spicy to take it to the next level. I love the décor, so happy to have so much of the original fixtures(stamped ceiling, rookwood tile) incorporated into the remodel. The only downside… in the summer if you sit out front you can expect to be panhandled. I expect that will go away as the area continues to be revitalized. This place has it all… bar, wonderful food, and a dessert counter that looks amazing. I’m always too full to explore the options. And it doesn’t break the bank to eat here.

Great food, not so great service. The food at TOB is always, always incredible. Fresh, delicious, great. But, for whatever reason, the service is usually pretty poor. It took over 10 mins for anyone to even stop by our table after arriving, and there seemed to be an utter lack of interest from our server. I don’t think the service should deter you from going, but the(lack of) quality service certainly detracts from the experience.

I now see why Taste of Belgium is one of the top spots in Cincy on Unilocal! I had my eye on this brunch superstar for many years, ever since first seeing it(but not having enough time to stop) in Findlay Market. So on the Sunday after New Year’s, we decided to brave the crowds and attempt to visit the Taste of Belgium in OTR. We had called ahead and were warned that we might have to wait 45 minutes for a table. Luckily, the wait was only 20 minutes when we arrived. «Huzzah!», we thought. But the good service didn’t end there. My boyfriend asked the hostess for a chair for his mom, who was in a cast from foot surgery and couldn’t stand for long. The hostess did us one better. She gave us the next available table. It was super awesome! They were beyond courteous and accommodating. And then, properly seated, we were able to delve into what we were there for: the food! I ordered the goetta hash($ 12), which came with roasted peppers and onions, two eggs and frites. Growing up in Northern Kentucky, I have a soft spot in my heart — and probably a cholesterol-filled spot as well — for goetta, this German-American delicacy that is best described as sausage oatmeal patties. And I had been craving it ever since hanging out with family over Christmas. TOB’s goetta in the hash was loose. I typically like my goetta crispier, but it was still very good. The frites were on the thick side, and the egg was cooked to perfection. The dish came out piping hot. You could tell this was put together just seconds before it was put in front of me. My boyfriend got the Brunch Burger($ 15), which is comprised of a waffle, beef patty, egg, maple syrup, bacon, Havarti and frites. This thing is a bit of a beast. This is a brunch item that might necessitate a nap after eating it. I had a bite, and, man, is it filling. As you would expect, TOB knows how to make a mean waffle. This was a bit more dense than I was expecting for a Belgian waffle, but it was oh so good. Another star of the meal was the granola, believe it or not. We got a fruit and yogurt parfait, which was among the best of its kind that I’ve ever had. It was sweet yet not overly so, and it stayed crunchy even with the fruit and yogurt. I would buy this separately and eat it at home if I could. All in all, this was a great breakfast that set the tone for the great day ahead. I can’t wait to go back!

Great location and breakfast service — Many of the dishes are well crafted and order to plate time is exceptional. I would definitely recommend the fries to anyone. May have been the best fries I’ve had in years. They were fresh and just the right amount of seasoning. Ordered the Belgium Waffle! Meh! not my cup of tea. I don’t blame it on the restaurant but as a main dish for breakfast you should avoid this order alone. Add some protein and other dish to accompany the waffle. The waffle is dense and sweet The side salad was the weakest part of the meal — overly oily/dressed.Fries and savory meals good waffle too dense not my cup of tea. I prefer a fluffier waffle and got my taste buds ready only to be disappointed! As a breakfast food you should only get them served with whipped cream and strawberries or something to eat for breakfast while you look at the inedible waffle. Such is life!

Be prepared for a wait, especially on the weekends. And then be prepared to roll yourself out the door after indulging. The wait is definitely worth it. Prices are very fair for portion sizes. Our server asked if I wanted one or two banana Nutella waffles, and as the waffles are about 5″ in diameter I thought«well duh, 2». Yeah, about ¼ the way into the second I knew it would be a challenge to finish. But let’s back up — banana Nutella waffles. I didn’t stutter. Beyond out of this world. If anything, they could have gone lighter on the Nutella! The banana perfectly complimented the sweetness. Mimosas completed my breakfast. They do have a full bar and are open for some nightlife. Know that you can self-seat at the bar or at the crêpe bar to the left when you walk in rather than wait to be seated. If I’m ever back in town I’d love to check out both the s’mores waffle and the chicken and waffles.

Doing this review while its fresh and I am sitting here. First, I was super excited to Taste Belgium. My husband and I watch a plethora of cooking shows and culinary competitions. My husband of 28 years is a trained chef(Culinary Institute of America) and he’s spoiled me when it comes to great American food. However when I am on business trips, it’s all out stepping outside the box. I’ve heard of Belgian Waffles and that Belgians drink a lot but outside of that, not much. So here I am in Cincy, downtown in one of their little eclectic neighborhoods, sitting at a window seat at Taste of Belgium. The environment is alive with patrons. Most are here is casual clothing, exercise attire, and such. Music is from the 70s which is an odd«white noise» in a Belgian Café. Alcohol is offered straight away which is apparently and all day affair. There is bar seating, high tops, four tops, and an area you can view the making of crepes and waffles. I’m a ways away but the aroma is in the air. There is much chatter, dishes clanging, coffee grinders grinding as well. My server was Jim B. Hmmm. Jim gets a 1STAR! The restaurant gets THREE stars. The food TWO stars. I’m going to be very honest. I walked in here at 8:20am. I was seated immediately at a great window seat. The table has a sugar packet keeper on it. That’s it. No silverware. No water glass. I’m approached by my server at 8:25 am and requested decaf. At 8:33 am it was set on my table and he walked away. I got up and took the cream decanter from the self serve and and stir straw. At 8:37 he returns to take my order. He was pleasant enough but it felt like he was encouraging me to be 100% sure I ordered what I wanted. And he did this to every table. Statements like, «you understand that that is a burger» and«you do know what Goetta is?» My food was delivered in roughly 7 minutes. It was hot. I ordered Goetta Hash. There were TONS of hot frites, two perfectly fried eggs, and Goetta. As others have stated, for $ 12 there should be more Goetta. Here’s the best part. No silverware. I got up and asked for that myself. No coffee refills. And NO offer for coffee refills. No salt, no pepper, no glass of water(EVERYTABLE had a glass of water) and no offer for coffee to go. How do I know these are all options? The server working the table near me, offered all of the above to her guests. I’m appalled and shocked at the service! If you come here, be sure your server is not JimB unless he knows you, then he’s all over your table like flies on… Adding on: when you pay you go to register. Guess who was right over? Yep! JimB because the server cashes out. Unreal!

I was able to visit this place, twice, while in Cincinnati for the Flying Pig running festival. The first time here we were seated at the chef’s table behind the main counter, not because we asked to, but because those were the only seats left in the joint. This place has a great selection of Belgium beers that were phenomenal. So definitely sampled my fair share of them. On my first visit I had the Goetta hash. I have never had goetta sausage before, but man was this ish tasty. It came on top of a bed of frites with a spicy side sauce and it was awesome. The second time around I wanted to get something with the waffles because these waffles are so unique, so I went with the Chicken and Waffles. This too was outstanding. The savory chicken stood right there with the sweeter waffle and when you added that real maple syrup on top, the combination was unbeatable. I saw that someone said the portions were small. I am not sure what he is referring too. You literally get an entire chicken breast, the waffle and a side of greens. It is a pretty sizable portion. I can eat and it was definitely enough for me. The service the first day we visited here was great. The waitress was very attentive and pleasant. And the chef’s answered any questions I had about the waffles or the food. The second day, the service missed the mark. The one guy didn’t crack a smile and seemed irritated he had to be there and the other guy behind the bar was not very attentive to us. We had to flag him down anytime we needed a refill or a napkin. The nice part about this place was that I could purchase just a bag of these waffles to go. I am pretty sure I will never have another waffle like this. They are not what you think when you read Belgium waffle. These round, crunchy, sugary disks of goodness are definitely something you should try when you are in Cincinnati.
