Reading the menu and the beer selection I had high hopes for this place but was quite disappointed. The inside is rundown and looks like it was not changed much from the sports bar that was their previously. We were sold on fresh made food but what was delivered did not reflect the work they said went in to it. The chips on the nachos did not appear to be made in house as the menu boasted. They flavors were also awkward. The pineapple salsa clashed with the other ingredients. The wings were also disappointing. They were fatty and just overall not tasty. Beers were also barely ok. Was not impressed by any of them. With the top notch breweries and tap rooms in town, this place did not stand up.

So I am giving them a 3 stars because they tried to make it right but it is standard bar food. They need more help, there was two ladies working on a Friday evening. I understand they were overwhelmed but multiple people around us had the same issue. Cold food… my fish and chips came out and looked awesome. I went to take a bite and it was ice cold. Also we were missing drinks, fries and other stuff… Finally it all came out and by the time they remade my fish and chips. we were ready to leave. I kind of did have high hopes based on other reviews. And they did take my meal off the bill. But overall, I was not impressed it all with the service.

Nice to be able to have a house made craft beer on the west side. However, they are really letting the place go. The bar stools swallow you because the springs are shot. One of the urinals have a garbage bag over it and the floor is bare concrete with dips everywhere. The beer is pretty good though, that’s why it gets 3 stars.

Just had lunch at Tap and Screw Brewery, it was delicious! They have an all homemade menu with the exception of a few frozen appetizers. I had the white chicken chili, very tasty, and the dinner salad complete with boiled eggs and pita’s. My friend had the portobello sandwich. We were both impressed! Since this was a work lunch, we didn’t try the beer but plan to go back and sample soon!

The west side has always prided itself in having both kinds of beer – Bud and Bud Light – so I was a little skeptical about a craft brewery’s prospects when it opened last winter, but it’s proving to be a great addition to the ‘hood. They offer 12 craft beers on tap, half made in house and most of the others by other prominent local names like Rhinegeist and Mt. Carmel. I enjoyed a sampler with the house porter, IPA, and Octoberfest, and they all rocked. We didn’t get too deep into the menu, but the burgers were solid(mine was just a tad overcooked for my liking) and the onion rings were first rate. They’ve added a large bay door on one side that opens out onto a patio, making it a great space to enjoy a cool August evening.

I’ve been to Tap n Screw a few times now. Good selection of beer and the food, for bar food, is really good. The west side doesn’t have many options for craft beer and good food. Although rough around the edges this is a keeper.

A welcome addition to the west side! Dive bars are everywhere, so it’s great to see something new and unique, especially on the west side of town. The menu features about a dozen or so beers that are brewed on site, and they change them up to keep it interesting. The food is standard pub fare, with a few notables, the goetta balls are a standout, and the fish and chips were great, not too greasy. The atmosphere is constantly improving, the owner has added a large overhead door, and weather permitting it is opened, and offers a neat outdoorsy ambience. The wait staff has definitely increased, and as such service is personable, and attentive. The outdoor patio is large, and covered. …perhaps large enough for some live music? On a whole, it is a very welcome breath of fresh air for the west side.

Tap and Screw is a pretty solid brewery/tap room on the Westside of Cincinnati. I recently visited and the beer on tap was just average but I have had their beers at local beer festivals and was impressed with some of their other offerings. The tap room looked to have food that looked pretty good and the décor is classic Westside(I would know, I grew up west of the West) complete with Keno if you so desire to win some cash. I also liked the garage door opening as it is nice to have the feel of sitting outside when inside. So if you’re in the area and looking to have a drink or two and maybe some food Tap and Screw is a pretty solid option.

Tap and screw is the answer to the West Side’s lack of good craft beer. They have great home brews and offer some of the other local gems from around the city. The food is ok. Slightly better than bar food, definitely not giving someplace like 50 West a run for their money. The portabella burger is good and so is the crab egg rolls appetizer. The southwest egg roll app is not good. The downside is really the staff. If Chuck(one of the owners) is working things run smoothly. Otherwise, the girls behind the counter seem confused and as if they don’t like each other. Food comes out of the kitchen and is placed on the bar and the waitresses seem to have no idea where it’s going. Food specials and a more cohesive staff could take this place to the next level. Stop in for an $ 8 growler refill of one of their proprietary brews.

Good craft beers. Loved the goetta balls. Nothing super impressive about the other food. Disappointed in service and price for what it is.

There are a lot of options on this side of town to enjoy good food and a variety of beer. What this place does well and differently is providing the west side with a place to drink custom brewed beer in addition to eating freshly prepared meals. On the night I was there I had the white chicken chili, the crab rolls with the asian zing sauce, and pretzel sticks with cheese sauce. By far the best food I tasted was the crab rolls. I would recommend them to anyone on a first visit. My friend I was with ordered one of the burgers and it looked great. As mentioned in several reviews it was served on a pretzel bun from Servatii’s. He was happy with his decision. I did a flight of beers and enjoyed the English Bitters beer I had the most. Ended up ordering a pint to end the meal. I think this place is a good, solid, work in progress and therefore I’m going with 3 stars. I would still choose to drive to other parts of town for other breweries options(MadTree, Fifty West, etc), but this place has potential. I’m going to go back now that the weather is nicer and see how the outdoor area operates. Looking forward to it.

I am waiting for my check right now from taps and screws. We came in around 8:30 and expressed an interest in eating. We were waiting for the rest of our party. Considering it is St. Patricks day we wanted to enjoy ourselves. Finally, the rest if our party gets here and we are ready to order. Everyone orders, then our server comes back and tells us we cannot get our food because the kitchen closed at 9:00. It was 9:02. The server apologized saying it was the kitchens fault. Then finally we have to leave because we are very hungry– the server is nowhere to be found! Very frustrated! I had to ask the bar for our checks. Our server apparently clocked out and now we are waiting for the bartender to get our checks right. Will not be coming back. Very disappointed! We probably will not be coming back The only reason I am not rating it a 1 star is because the iris cream ale is pretty good. Suggestion: owner sitting at the table next to us steps in and makes it right. P. s. we are still waiting our checks 25 minutes later

The craft brewery drought on the west side of town is now over. Tap & Screw Brewery opened their doors late last year in the spot formerly occupied by Tom and Jerry’s. The ownership is still the same, but the food menu has changed, and the beer selection is much improved. In addition to six of their own Tap & Screw brews, there were six other offerings with half of them coming from other local breweries. My wife and I split a couple of flights($ 6 each) to sample most of the offerings. Their own beers were pretty good, with the Jacked Porter serving as the real standout. On the food front we started with an order of southwest egg rolls which included their own white chicken chili on the inside($ 6.99). These were very good, with the chicken chili adding interesting flavors to the standard corn and bean southwestern flavors. My wife had the portobello burger with bell peppers($ 8.99) and she was very pleased with her selection. This included a side of saratoga chips and BBQ sauce. I had the special of the day, which was a chicken philly($ 6.99) and also had chips on the side. The sandwich was good and should probably be made a permanent part of the menu. Children’s options are available including grilled cheese($ 3.99) with fries. Overall Tap & Screw Brewery is off to a good start with some solid beer choices and nice selection of homemade food. This could be a regular stop for my family when visiting my in-laws on the other side of town.

As a born west sider living in Hyde Park I am admittedly harsh when judging west side restaurants. West side restaurants consist of hundreds of chains mixed in with a few hidden gems that rival the best of that other side of town. Tap and Screw has the potential to become a part of this elite group. From the outside it lacks the«you NEED to eat here» appeal. It used to be a bank and it still looks like one. The inside doesn’t boast much more– a poorly designed bar awkwardly breaks up the sparsely decorated, dingy bar. If you can look past all of this you will be rewarded. The food at Tap and Screw is amazing. Last night my favorite part was by far the crab egg rolls with the Asian dipping sauce. We have always been a huge fans of the fish tacos. I have never had food here that disappointed and prices are very reasonable. We really miss brunch at this location and are hopeful that as business picks up this is something they bring back– best geotta grilled cheese in town. I am not a huge craft beer person so I won’t speak much on that, but I did enjoy the English Bitters beer I had. The reviews comment a lot about poor service. We have been patrons of previous restaurants under this management in the building and the service here has always been hit or miss. Unfortunately, we have had some trips where it was a big miss and our wait times have been ridiculous. Our service last night was excellent so hopefully this is something they are improving. It’s great to see a restaurant with this potential on the west side. With some work on décor and service they stand a chance at becoming a well known name in Cincinnati.

Tap & Screw had at least 6 of their own beers. I got Irony & my son got Brazen. Wonderful! The burgers are flame broiled with the option of a Servatii pretzel bun. I ordered the white chicken chili; best soup I have had in awhile. Cannot wait to go back & try other stuff!

I’ve never been here when it was Tom and Jerry’s which always looked like an old man bar from the outside and unfortunately, it still kind of appears that way. Other than changing the paint and adding a garage door it looks the same. It is an old bank building with some unique brickwork that could really be fun with the right decorator. I know I’m harping on that but there are a lot of chain bars/restaurants on that short strip of road to compete with and I really want the local guy to be the one that is noticed. Luckily they got a good write-up in the local paper which enticed us to come and visit. The first time we went was between meal times so we only got the nachos which were above average. It was within the first two weeks of opening and they only had three of their beers on tap. We tried all three and they were not bad either. The next two times we attempted to go they were so crowded we couldn’t find a place to sit. Which is a good thing for them but the logistics inside are not helping with the crowding. The over-sized bar is right in the center with a weird closed off walkway to the taps that prevents at least four more tables of seating. Speaking of seats, the ones at the bars are saggy and too low. Just sayin’. And the weird paint color from outside is continued on the inside. We were finally able to get seating this last weekend because of the snow storm. And despite the storm, they were still busy! Even though there was only one poor guy running the entire floor, he busted his butt and we never had to wait for a refill or our food. This time they had several of their own beers on tap and each one we tried was better than the last. I like that they also serve local wines. And then there’s the food of which they are very proud. Everything is fresh, except for the fries and onion rings which are frozen. The meat comes from Wasslers and the bread from Servatiis. I had the hamburger with beer cheese on pretzel bread. Hearty and sloppy and great pub food. My husband had the fish tacos which were were huge and overstuffed. Their mango salsa is something you would expect to find at a much fancier restaurant. I can’t wait to try other items on their menu… if I can get a seat.

This place sucks. I asked for a refund because they kept skipping my songs on the jukebox, to which the manager flat out refused. The bartender went to get the manager who was verbally abusive to me and my party. He said that we are an idiot for playing our songs. All in all, we didn’t get a refund nor did our songs come back on and he told us to shove our Unilocal review. Drink at your own risk!

Recently went and visited this new West Side joint and enjoyed the beer. It was really good but the service is spotty and the food was just OK. Louis said at the bar we had several table tops and bar patrons order after us and receive food before us and in the entire 90 minutes we were there we were checked on only twice, the second time was when I waved at the server to get her attention so she would come over and I could order another beer. She didn’t come back around to take the order for a full 10 minutes after that. Their staff could use with a little more training on watching the customers they do have — I’ve had much better service and much more crowded places. I would definitely go back for a beer — the food was just so so.

I’ve been going here since it was Patricks and Tom & Jerry’s. It has potential, but right now this place is AWFUL. The service was the worst I’ve had in a long time. We had 2 different servers and neither could get it right. One couple we were with never got their food because the order wasn’t put in. It took more than 20 minutes just to get a beer. When some of us did get our food, it was wrong and very greasy. And when it was time for the checks, our server had to ask us how many beers we drank, and what food we ordered. This place is new, but the workers are mostly the same from the previous establishment. Very disappointed and will NOT be back.

Yep, this is a west side sports bar. We just stopped in for a quick drink after dinner, but it was still an ok place. I was actually pretty impressed with their selection of taps. They even had a cider on tap. It is mostly guys in their 30s-50s watching sports, playing pool or darts and drinking. I will say, since we walked in with a group of four women, we definitely got attention. The bartender, also a woman, thanked us for coming in. She said she is usually stuck with all guys and was so glad to see us. And we were chatted up by some of the patrons. If you are over in the area, it isn’t a bad spot to stop for a quick pint.
