I was familiar w/the SL bec/the downtown location was on our regular office lunch rotation. it’s a good and quick lunch or dinner for the whole family. It’s very casual, where you have to get your own drink, napkins, flatware, ketchup, etc. it’s good for people with kids. I think they also expect you to bus your own table bec/there is a bin for dirty dishes near the exit, similar to Panera. I usually get the gumbo, or the chicken noodle soup, and their fries. The gumbo is good and spicy, not so much authentic, but still tastes good. the chicken noodle soup is also very hearty and filling, although it is a little heavy on the onions — but I like onions so not complaining. The fries appear to have been dusted with flour before deep-frying. they are very good. they offer $ 5 kids meals that come with a main, a drink, and a side. I was not so impressed with the Cincinnati style chili made with chicken. it had a grainy spice flavor to it. it’s a good place to eat on a weeknight when you want fast service and don’t want to pay for frills.

Ordered the Spring Strawberry salad. The strawberries were so red and sweet, combined with the creamy goat cheese and tangy balsamic vinegarette. Perfect for a day like this! Also tried the Gumbo and loved the andouille sausage had just the right amount of spice.

I’m not the worlds biggest fan of soups(clam chowder and lobster/crab bisque excepted) so I haven’t been too excited about hitting up the 2nd location of Silver Ladle right in my home neighborhood of Anderson Township. That said, it was fairly decent, although not a place I’d go out of my way for or direct anyone to. This is a counter service business, but after ordering they give you small sign with a number to put on your table. You get your drinks self-serve(bonus points for the availability of both unsweetened and sweet tea), sit down at your table, and one of the high school age staff will bring your food to you I tried the much-lauded chicken chili, the mushroom soup, a cheese coney, and a big chocolate chip cookie, and was also provided a sample of the loaded potato soup The mushroom soup was the best thing I had, with big and perfectly cooked chunks of portabellas, but it was very thick, gelled somewhat beyond the texture of a very thick gravy. The chicken chili is Cincinnati-style, and all the flavors of this dish were there and on-point, but the shredded chicken was so different texture wise, and not in a good way. I think this dish would be a lot better if they used ground chicken. It comes automatically with shredded cheese on top and the option to add onions, but if you want to try this concoction I recommend you eschew both, and just go with the chili straight up The coney was unremarkable and somewhat pricier than the same item in a typical chili parlor around town. That said, it is my understanding that these are only a buck starting at 7pm, so if want to try this, head there late for a bargain The cookie was clearly baked in house and was very good, and a bargain at 99 cents Although the flavor was decent, the potatoes in the sample of potato soup were still crunchy. Ask for your own sample before ordering this dish, unless you are one of those people that likes raw potatoes :-) I liked the fact that they had an hour of TWC wifi free to all customers. I liked how clean the bathroom was. I liked that every table had a carafe of oyster crackers — this being a soup/chili-centric place and all — but for the same reason, and this is just a minor quibble — I think every table should also have a napkin dispenser, salt and pepper, and hot sauce.

Unfortunately, this was not the best experience. The atmosphere was not very inviting, the staff barely acknowlegd us and frankly, the food just didn’t taste very fresh. Maybe we will try again someday, but there are much better options nearby.

This place is OK. It was given great reviews in the paper. They have salads, soups and sandwiches. Prices are reasonable. It’s nothing great. Salad was decent. Sandwich was decent. They have late day specials like $ 1 conies.

Sigh… we gave the Silver Ladle a couple try’s. But are none too impressed. The first try I had the muffuletta which was decent, she had the black bean goop, I say goop because it was so thick that it was unappetizing not to mention the after taste. The second visit, I had a cheese coney and mushroom soup. If you like Cincinnati style coneys but would rather have a milder flavor, this may be for you. The mushroom soup was ok, nothing to write home about. She had the loaded potato soup, once again like the black bean soup it was too thick and also had a distinct after taste. I would have to rate this as the WORSTPOTATOSOUP I’ve ever had. I have never been to the original Silver Ladle, but if the food is better, they should rush over and save the Beechmont location while they can.

I to have to agree with many of other posts. I expected a good to great place for soups. I am a huge soup fan and can say I make a MUCH better loaded potato and Chicken noodle. Tasted like it was right out of a can. Uck. If it isn’t perfect do not put it on the menu — We can tell when its full of chemicals. Spinach salad was good, also tried my Sons Chicken Chili which was good. Wewill probably try again, just hope they revamp or they won’t last. I really love the idea of the place food has to be as equally good.

With a name like Silver Ladle your soup has to be good… unfortunately it was not. My wife got the Loaded Baked Potato soup which should be a slam dunk but it tasted bitter like it had been in the pot too long. My Jambalaya was just ok, the flavor was bland for this kind of soup. There are great soups in Cincinnati– Otto’s tomato dill, McCormick and schmick’s clam chowder, Dilly’s butternut squash to name a few. The silver ladle needs to do some more culinary development to live up to their name. They are new so I’ll try them again in a month or so.

This place was supremely OKAY. The sandwich selection was good and seemed inventive. I got the chicken chili which was exactly the flavor profile of Cincinnati chili favorites but with a nice meat alternative. Service was lackadaisical — they forgot our sand which until I asked about it. Different place — decent food.

I was not impressed. This was our first visit. I don’t even think they’ve been opened a month. I didn’t like the appearance at all. The colors look cold and uninviting. All the girls wore yoga pants and t-shirts. There’s classy and trashy ways to wear these outfits, let’s just say, it wasn’t classy. There is a pretty good amount of food choices, similar to a Panera, definitely no match. After you eat there’s a place to put your tray and garbage at the door, similar to Chipotle. I had the turkey and gouda on a pretzel bun. The tomato didn’t work with this sandwich, the grilled onions had been sitting around awhile, the fresh greens were by no means fresh and there’s not much turkey but a lot of gouda. The messiest sandwich I’ve ever eaten. I got the black bean chili that won the appetizer of the year in Cincinnati magazine 2013&2015. It was a good alternative for regular chili but tasted like Mexican refried beans to me. The fries were absolutely great! The mushroom burger is very tasty, it had a great amount of mushrooms but again the cheese was just too much. The three way with beef chili was pretty bad. We all went home with a stomach ache. I doubt we will be going back. They also sell alcohol which we didn’t partake in. They do have wonderful cookies for dessert. It was chocolate chip with coconut and macadamia nuts. $ 10 for a sandwich side and drink wasn’t a bad price. Kids meals are just $ 5.

LOVE Silver Ladle! This location isn’t as large as the downtown location, but the menu seems to be exactly the same! My friends and I visited on Wednesday at around 2:00, and we were able to find a table large enough for 6. Our meals came literally within 3 minutes of ordering! I ordered the Chef salad, and it was great! My friends ordered chicken sandwiches, and they looked amazing. Overall, I love Silver Ladle, so I will definitely be going back again soon!

Silver Ladle is the latest addition to Anderson Township’s changing restaurant landscape bringing another non-chain option to the area. The brainchild of Tim Lambirdines, Silver Ladle has Cincinnati style chili in its DNA and chili parlor heritage in its design. However, Silver Ladle is not a chili parlor. Nor is it a typical fast food or fast casual restaurant. You can tell that the place aspires to be more but without being pretentious. I’ve never been to the original location downtown, but the new Anderson location is a nice size with natural light coming through the glass storefront of the newly constructed strip mall in which it is located. The entrance leads you directly to the counter where you place your order based on the massive wall mounted menus to your left and above the registers. It is a similar set up to the Cherry Grove Smashburger or the Kenwood Noodles and Company. There is plenty of seating at different sized tables in modern, silver chairs. Each table has a carafe or oyster crackers one of the few reminders of the spot’s chili parlor heritage. The menu is interesting, varied and seems to go out of its way to remind you its *not* a chili parlor. While there are two types of Cincinnati style chili on the menu, there is no mention of the«way» style of serving it seen in most chili parlors. Instead of a 3,4 or 5 way you build your chili experience choosing from spaghetti, field greens, chips or another base. Then you had your chili here in beef or chicken varieties. And finally your toppings. But chili isn’t the star of menu. There are sandwiches, burgers, salads and plenty of soups to choose from. The ladle clearly isn’t just for chili. My family ordered a variety of items off the menu. The variety was very welcome without being overwhelming. While it did take us a bit to orient ourselves to the menu and make our selections I owe that more to it being new than being too much. We ordered enough different items off the menu to really get a feel for the place. First, the chili. Again this isn’t your typical chili parlor and while I don’t think chili is the star here, it certainly is a big part of the menu. My daughter got the 3-way; err the spaghetti with beef chili and cheese. It was excellent and fairs well against some of the other chilis in town. I’d say it’s right in the middle and any fan of our local Greek inspired dish would find plenty here to be comfortable with. I’d take Skyline or J&Js chili any day over this, but would probably not go to Gold Star again with this and Skyline had local options. My son opted for a cheese coney with chicken chili. I had one with standard beef chili. Again, both were very good and would pacify any desire for a real Cincinnati cheese coney. The chicken chili was a surprise twist on the dish and other than the obvious difference in texture(the chicken is finely shredded) the taste was fine and the chili benefited by being less greasy that it’s beef based brother. My wife and I both tried soups. Be warned, the«cup» is a very small serving and the«bowl» is a little too much. I tried the buffalo chicken wing soup which had good chunks of chicken, an awesome«buffalo» flavor and was adorned with celery and sour cream. It reminded me a bit of those buffalo chicken dips you see at football parties, but in a soup form. My wife opted for the French onion soup which was not as good. The flavor was bland, the cheese was bland and the bread was bland. It was a very thin take on the soup without a ton of onions in the mix. Coupled with the small serving it was a miss and a disappointment. My son and wife both ordered salads and while the serving size was big, both were awful. Simply a re-package of your grocery store bagged salad. It was also probably a day or so past its prime. Chopping up and arranging some fresh lettuce and veggies would go a long way here. Finally, both kids ordered fries. Even the serving with the kids meal was enormous. Simply put, the fries are outstanding. They appear to be battered and then fried. Maybe even double fried. They were crunch, crisp, flavorful and not a bit too salty or greasy. I don’t really eat fries at all anymore but if definite make an exception here. I bet chili and cheese on these would be fantastic, but you don’t need it. The staff of local teens was friendly enough but you could definitely tell they are still working out the just opened kinks. Order taking was slow, food prep and delivery took longer than it should have and I thought $ 35 for the 4 of us was pretty expensive. Overall, I’d probably consider going here again. The burgers looked amazing. And if like to try the sandwiches on the board. If we are going for chili, honestly if probably opt for Skyline. Tradition, consistency and price puts the standby, long time chain well above Silver Ladle for a night at the chili parlor. But I’d go back to try the other items on the menu and probably still add a coney to the mix.

I had the«pick 2» and chose the chicken chili and the Silver Ladle sandwich. The chili was spot on Skyline with chicken instead of beef and a bit spicier. The sandwich was good but I don’t think it needed the thick layer of Skyline shredded cheese. There are a lot of soups I want to try so I will be back. The atmosphere is sterile. The high ceilings don’t help the acoustics. It’s really hard to hear conversations. My experience was ruined by the staff cleaning the tables. The table next to us was cleaned a couple of times. Instead of a sanitized cleaning cloth they sprayed a cleaner on the table. Then sprayed more on other tables. We inhaled it. We tried not to. It was awful!!! It ruined the whole visit. The odor was so strong.

Awesome place! It’s like Panera Bread except it has better food(plus great chili) and it’s not overpriced. I had a Roast Beef Club which was awesome! I also had a cheese coney and fries which were also great. My boys had kids 3 ways, which I tried, and the 3way is also really good and the chili is unsurprisingly very close to skyline. The staff was super friendly and gave me a coupon for a free soup and even brought a free chocolate chip cookie to our table for my boys! I had a great experience my first time here and I have a sneaking suspicion that all the food is as good as what we had on our first visit! We will definitely be back!
