Salon Lofts

Obviously it depends on who you get to do your hair but I have had three different hair stylists and all were excellent. It is very clean and well lit, as well as free coffee and waiting area. I think they do a really great job of showing reviews on their website and keeping a well trained staff.

I am going to start by explaining Salon Lofts a little bit. It is a large space with individual rooms rented out by hair stylists, makeup artists, etc. so each room is essentially its own salon. All of the spaces are very nice because I think it is relatively new. I have been here twice because of deals on Groupon. I went last year for a haircut in Loft 1 by Shirin (can’t remember the Groupon price) and I went today for a shellac mani and normal pedi from Heather (only $ 42!)
Both my experiences have been great. Since everyone is running their business independently, they are friendly and really care about the quality of the services they provide. Also, they can price services fairly and not overcharge you like some big salons do.
Even though my hair experience with Shirin was last year, I remember being satisfied with the cut. She cared about my needs and made sure she didn’t go shorter than I wanted with the length. My nail experience with Heather Cooper in Loft 15 was so great that I will come back even without a Groupon. Her loft is spacious and more comfortable than some of the others and she was very friendly. 100% satisfied with my gel manicure and pedicure. (I reviewed her individual Unilocal profile, but I don’t know if many will see it, so I am posting about her here too). As well as the gel mani & normal pedi for a total of $ 42, she is doing $ 10 off her $ 33 shellac through November and December. I highly recommend her for nails (she doesn’t do hair). I love this place and think it is a shame that it has few reviews on Unilocal and little people know what it is. This concept is great and I like it better than a salon. It is also very conveniently located in hyde park and all of the stylists make their own hours. Look out for Salon Lofts on Groupon if you want to try it out without paying full price your first time! They do take walk ins but it is hard to get one so I would make an appointment. Enjoy.

I need to start by explaining my 4 stars. I see two ladies at Salon Lofts that I love but I purchased a groupon for a hair deal and wish I didn’t. I saw Shirin in the first booth on the right. She shares that booth with somebody else. She screwed up my highlights and cut. I had to pay additional $ 40 to fix my cut a week later and my hair is still super dry from her color and it’s been a month and a half.
My 5 stars goes to Melissa Alen and Kendra Wright. Melissa does my eyebrows and I will never go to anybody else to get my eyebrows waxed. Kendra does my nails and so far I’ve had both shelac manicure and regular pedicure and couldn’t be happier. Both are reasonably priced and will send out emails with occasional promotions.
Both Melissa and Kendra are super friendly, easy to talk to and just make you feel right at home. I like the Salon Lofts concept where they provide the building and the opportunity for you to own your own business but don’t have to worry about the infrastructure.

If you’ve never been to a Salon Lofts before, the idea is that independent hair stylists, makeup artists etc rent out spaces in these storefronts and therefore do not have to deal with the huge risk of owning an entire salon by themselves. Very cool.
I came to this particular Salon Loft to get an undo by Ashley McElhaney. She does hair and makeup. I had some pics in mind of what I wanted, but wasn’t really sure what would look good on me. She was very skilled and in no time, I walked out of that salon with a fabulous undo that stayed put all night long. I really appreciated how she asked to look at the pic again while she was working on the undo. I feel like too often when you go into a hair salon asking for a specific cut, color, or style, they kind of end up doing whatever they feel like.
I definitely recommend Ashley. I even booked a haircut with her before I left that first appointment.
