I’ve been visiting community beauty shops since I was 10. My hair has only once been done by someone who was younger than 50. I went to Rascals to get a perm and a cut. I’ve been getting perms for 20 years. Perms are actually not that difficult. 2 things make up a good perm: timing and the roll of the hair on the roller. In 20 years, I’ve never had this happen. Right now on the top of my head in the very front I have a semi-permanent dent made by a perm roller. Often you can see where the rollers have been on your head when you first get a perm but they subside within 1 – 2 weeks. This one, 4 weeks later is still there. I looked it up online and discovered that this is created when the band that stretches across the roller is allowed to roll right next to the scalp. This happens because the roller isn’t tight. The articles I found simply stated that this happens when beauticians are not careful about rolling their patron’s hair. I don’t know how long it is going to take the indention to grow out but seeing as how it is right next to scalp and very noticeable I’m going to guess a good while. Also, the hair is «broke» where the band was laying. The cut of my hair was ok and, as I am used to, the person who did my hair did a horrible job of styling it. I’m used to that and will often just walk out with my hair wet. But I’ve never had my hair rolled so bad. The problem with small, community beauty shops is once you’ve been to one stylist it is difficult to change; everyone knows you were not happy with your service and it is uncomfortable. For a cut and a perm I paid $ 60. Actually very well-priced but in Cincinnati it appears you get what you pay for when it comes to hair. My search for a decent, moderately priced beautician continues. I won’t be going back.
