If I hadn’t had the pleasure of eating the pot pies at Tom’s Pot Pies downtown some years ago, I’d most likely declare the chicken pot pie here as the best I have ever eaten. So who hasn’t had this chicken pot pie yet? Judging by the many reviews, I do believe I can declare myself the winner of the contest to be the very last Cincinnati-based Unilocaler(vegetarians and vegans aside) to have had this dish. Knowing that hot pie crust doesn’t travel well, I didn’t travel far before I dug into my carryout box, and I was very pleased — lots of good chicken in bite sized chunks and shreds, fresh veggies, and plenty of moisture albeit none of the typically goopy/runny veloute/gravy one associates with the grocery store pot pie we’ve all had at one time or another. The crust was solid but did not impart any flavor. Texturally, this was an excellent dish, but overall, I think they need to amp up the flavor just a bit. For 11 dollars, you get a wedge of this pie plus a spoonful of pickled veggies and a choice of side, which can be tomato soup, slaw, a salad, or chili. The chili is a buck extra, and thats what I got. If you’ve had Wolf Brand Chili with beans, the taste and texture is very comparable to that product, but the presence of the occasional chunk of steak and a lot more meat makes this chili quite a bit better I’ve had three of the dessert pies — honey vinegar, meyer lemon, and strawberry frangiapane — and they have all been simply outstanding. IMHO — These are the best things to get here, and if you are stoppign here for the first time, make sure your order includes at least one of the dessert pies If you’ve read this far, you might be wondering why I have assigned them 3 stars when the review reads more like 4 or 5 star. Here’s why: price and menu policy. Although I absolutely do like the food here, I think the prices are all between 20% and 30% too high, and thats quite a wide margin. I also dislike the fact that I can’t buy some small items — like savory hand pies — ala carte, skipping the included sides and added cost. But given that they are forcing inclusion of a side, I think it’d be more palatable if at the very least there were a few more choices, including but not limited to a slice of one of their sweet pies, albeit this(like the chili) could include a dollar surcharge extra. Service-wise, I was happy that they asked if I needed utensils. Some folks dont need them, and asking this question avoids waste. But why wasn’t a spoon included when I had paid the upcharge for chili? If you plan to dine in, keep in mind that they don’t have many seats available, even when you include their outside seating on a nice day. If you’re wanting to bring a group bigger than 4, I’d advise calling ahead

Mmm! My mom and I stopped in and I had the roasted veggie pot pie and she had the quiche — mine was good but hers was better :) After our savory pie, we couldn’t resist the Honey Vinegar pie.

Yes they have pie! Dessert pies and entrée pies. Great wine selection, one you won’t find except at the high end restaurants. I have eaten here a few times and gotten pies to go. It is always outstanding. The chicken pot pie is crazy good. The fruit pies are all incredibly satisfying and worth the calories. Parking is in the lot just past the store front or on the street. The staff is friendly and patient with any questions.

We were wondering down Madison and yay, there was a convenient place open for Sunday lunch, my treat. I am happy to find an original taste and idea. My companions had savory pies and I had soup and coleslaw plus coffees and dessert. Really, for what we got, it wasn’t that expensive considering the food there is fresh and homemade, and an original idea. You order at the counter and someone brings the food. I didn’t opt to leave a tip and the counter lady looked a little put off. Sorry. . I liked the clean environment, diversity of people, and bright lively outdoor seating. It wasn’t so crowded that I had to wait in a line, but busy enough to make a fun experience. And again the food. The slaw tasted great as I’m a salad person. Pies were enough that we could share tastes. The tomato soup, on the other hand, was way too thick like a marinara sauce. Really, just thin it down with tomato juice and its a win-win. There is more to sell and it has a much nicer consistency, My companion only finished half her cup. But the taste was really lovely with cumin spice. We finished off splitting a slice of strawberry pie with vinegar. We bought a whole lemon pie to go for dinner that evening. Lovely. Happy to have found it and I would go back.

All of their pies are delicious and I’ve enjoyed several items on their food menu as well. I would highly recommend visiting this place! We visit several times a year and are always impressed with the food. The only recommendation I would provide to them is their customer service. I have visited several times since they’ve opened and the waitstaff just isn’t as friendly as they should be. They’re not rude, they just seem sluggish and unfriendly.

Oh you sexy thang! I walked in and saw the champagne pour in a flute and the pie slice onto a plate and the menu expand on and on. And I totally caved. Utterly and completely. Do I really want all the calories? Heck yes! Do I want to ruin my diet? Should I have an adult beverage this early? You betcha!!! Bring it, baby. Because I simply CANNOT resist. I ordered the honey vinegar and I’m pretty sure this pie is all I ever wanted out of life. OMG. I tell you, that pie BLEWMYMIND it was so good! So creamy. So flaky. With just enough chewy to it. Yum! The server said it was like a slice of ‘crème brûlée’ as a pie. Well yes it’s true. But arguably, it’s waaaay better than that. This come-hither pie is totally legit and delicious and it seduced me like Don Juan. I was scraping the plate, man. O Pie O may have a weak moniker but their pie game is the real deal.

I’ve been dying to return since trying O Pie O with Unilocal.I took my hubby and my parents(visiting from out of town). Parking is super easy and free on a nearby lot. Always a plus when eating out. I thoroughly enjoyed the beef stout and slaw. I think I had the best at the table. My hubby had the tomato soup and ham & cheese pocket. Tried it… tasty. The tomato soup tastes a lot like a chili base. Not what I expected but very good. My parents had the quiche and chicken pot pie. The crusts are amazing… and I’m not a crust person. The little«O» on top of my soup was perfect to soak up some of the soup. The table was happy! Had to have desert! Honey vinegar is amazing with a scoop of vanilla… also yum. My parents had the blueberry pocket and it will be a pick on my next visit. I won’t be waiting so long to return, but I need to get some extra time on the treadmill to help with the guilt.

O Pie O is a clever name for a place that specializes in, wait for it — PIE. I know, crazy, right? The menu has both sweet and savory pies, but a limited selection of both. Entrees are served with a side, basically either soap or salad. I ordered chicken pot pie and tomato soup. I’d recommend the pie — it is filling and has a unique texture and sweet crust. I’d skip the soup next time, as it more favored the taste of salsa than traditional tomato soup. All in all, dinner for 2 cost $ 30(without dessert) and we left slightly less than satisfied with the experience overall.

O Pie O: a pretty dumb name, but it does communicate the gist of this restaurant, which is all things encrustulated. If you like that sort of thing, this is the place to get it, and it has you covered whether you favor sweet or savory. DLW and I found the place fairly quiet on a late Saturday afternoon, but business steadily picked up as we ate. This place attracts the sort of hip, savvy urbanites that used to be called yuppies, distinct from the hipsters who favor lowbrow irony. These folks are successful, put-together, well-mannered. They also seem to like homey dishes, which is what they dish up. I had one of the specials, a beef stout stew with puff pastry on top. It included carrots, rutabaga and onions. Rutabaga was a bit underdone, but everything tasted very good, and nothing says home cooking like braised meat. DLW took the chicken pot pie, which she also enjoyed. Each came with a side, which was salad for her and chili for me, both of which satisfied. Of course we couldn’t pass up dessert. The house specialty is honey and vinegar chess pie, and even though it was spring and strawberries were on offer, we went with the signature pie. Strangely we thought the sprinkle of salt on top was the touch that pushed it to excellence. The crust is always the hard part in pies, and here they erred on the flaky side instead of the tender side. They even made it convenient for drivers by situating next to a big parking lot, not easy to come by in a lot of neighborhoods in Cincy. We must try the rest of the menu before all is said and done.

Soooo tasty. We went on a Walk on Woodburn Friday and O Pie O was hopping. We waited in line to place our order at the register then made room to sit at the bar. Our food came out very quickly. I guess, after all, they really just need to slice up pies. :) I had Quiche Lorraine and it was so good. Loads of big slices of ham, a creamy, but not runny texture. It was perfect. And the Miso dressing on my side salad was fantastic! The staff was really friendly and working hard to accommodate everyone. I later went back to get a slice of dark chocolate pie to take home but the line was long and I was impatient. So another trip is clearly in order.

Wow, I love this place! I love the inventive menu and the pie theme… Who knew you could eat pie for every meal? Came here with a group of 4 people for dinner last Saturday… I would say this place is set up for smaller groups, so I wouldn’t plan on bringing more than 3 friends with you. But there was no wait for a table! First off, the drink special of the night was $ 3.50 Rhinegeist cans(no beers on tap), so of course we took advantage of that! They also serve wine and cider. For dinner I ordered the chicken pot pie with a side salad(green goddess dressing), and my husband got the shepherd’s pie special of the night with a side salad(miso sesame dressing). All of our food was amazing! They need to bottle their salad dressings ASAP because I would definitely buy it by the gallon. My chicken pot pie was heartier and thicker than expected(in a good way), the crust was extra flaky, and it was overall extra delicious. The shepherd’s pie was also really good, with a nice crispy layer of mashed potatoes on top. And for the price($ 11 for each entrée, including the salad), I think this was a great deal! We of course had to get dessert(we are at a freaking pie restaurant, after all). I wanted to try the honey vinegar, but they were out so we went with the chocolate raspberry tart($ 4) and my friend got the lemon pie($ 4). All of the pies were absolutely delicious and creamy! I would make the trip out here just for dessert. I only have two complaints… For a small restaurant that only seats 40 people or so, our service was super slow and inattentive. Our waiter took forever to take our order, and he rarely came by to see how we were doing. Our beers and waters ran dry a few times because we never got to ask for refills. Also, when we asked for pie, our waiter asked if we wanted whipped cream on top. Of course I said yes! What he didn’t tell us(and we didn’t find out until we got the check) was that whipped cream is $ 1 extra. I don’t like to be surprised when I see my bill. I didn’t complain because it’s only $ 1, but they should really say something if it’s offered.

I must start by saying I have been a huge fan of their pies ever since they started selling at Findlay Market but I’ve only been to the restaurant once. We went on a Saturday and thankfully got there right before the crowd as the restaurant is tiny. I had the ham and cheese«hot pocket» and cup of tomato soup and was totally wowed. It was delicious. The puff pastry was cooked perfectly and the soup had great flavor. A friend got the pot pie and fair warning it does not have that gravy/broth that would expect with a pot pie. It was definitely on the dry side. But she said it was delish. The empanadas were also had and got good reviews. Overall our party enjoyed it! Just be ready for a wait if you got during prime dining times.

After our first dining experience at Mita’s downtown, we moved up to East Walnut Hills to try O Pie O, which features both sweet and savory handcrafted pies, wine, and local beers. On this visit we focused solely on desert, though I do want to return for a full meal soon. First up was a drink and after one glance at the menu I knew exactly what I was ordering, the nitro cow. This features a scoop of Graeter’s Madagascar vanilla ice cream served with Left Hand’s nitro milk stout($ 8). This was a little large to be served in one pint glass so I was given another glass for the rest of the beer, which I gladly added to the ice cream after eating/drinking some of the deliciousness. O Pie O is already famous for their honey vinegar pie, so again I knew exactly what I wanted to try($ 5 per slice). This is similar to a custard pie and is truly amazing. The sweetness from the filling are complimented well by the sea salt on top. Each day the sweet pies are different and sold while supplies last, though it seems this crowd favorite is always on the menu. Be sure to give it a try!

I have been eagerly anticipating my first visit to O Pie O and oh boy, it did not disappoint. I’ve eaten the pies at Findlay Market and already knew this meal would be amazing, I just needed the right occasion to do so. Rose K. and I were driving back from a 13 mile marathon training run last Saturday discussing the need for a seasonal Starbucks drink and most importantly, what type of food we should eat. Once I said O Pie O, the discussion was over, we knew where to go. I’ll also preface this by saying it was less than 20 degrees with a bone-numbingly cold wind chill. Upon entrance, we were confused by the massive curtains hanging in the doorway. However the restaurant would have been sufficiently colder had they been absent. A family and one other person were finishing up around 10:30 when we walked in. For reference, breakfast is served until 10:30 and then the larger lunch/dinner menu is available. Our waitress was great, we love chatting about favorite foods and specialties when dining out and she was very passionate about this place. The daily special was Shepherd’s Pie and we obviously had to have that. We also wanted to try the corn empanada. We got the chili as a side(no upcharge! that’s great!) and our waitress recommended the Carolina Slaw. The Shepherd’s Pie was amazing on that frigid, windy day after a grulling run. The potatoes on top had a delightful, crispy top that was fun to break into. The chili had a strong stout taste that was also very hearty and weather appropriate. The kitchen mixed up the empanadas so we had the pleasure of trying both. Both were good, I enjoyed the corn one the most. The trio of sauces served on the side were AMAZING. I wish I could take those home. The beef and mole were outstanding the corn was great with the queso. As a well-earned appetizer, we had to try the honey and vinegar pie. It was delicious and as our waitress said, tasted nothing like honey nor vinegar. At this point the restaurant was getting packed as it was nearing 11:30 and the typical brunch time for sleepy Cincinnatians. To top it off, our bill was $ 24! I loved every minute of this experience and cannot wait to come back and try everything else. This place embodies the East Walnut Hills feeling and is a great addition to this city.

It’s rare that I’m this excited to give a 5 star review, but O Pie O, you earned it. After a cold, subzero temp 13 mile run, fellow Unilocaler Mary P. and I knew we needed some warm and comforting food to defrost and O Pie O did not disappoint. Let’s start with service – it was ONPOINT. The waitress was friendly, attentive and chatty. The restaurant wasn’t busy at all around 10:30AM and she had plenty of time to share her passion for the menu with us. The major foodie in me loved hearing what her favorites were. She even brought us a magazine article to read about their famous honey vinegar pie. After learning what the specials and menu staples were, we finally decided what to order. The Shepard’s pie(daily special) and the corn empanadas. However, due to a kitchen mix up, we were given the pleasure of sampling the beef empanadas too. We also had to try the honey vinegar pie since it sounded so interesting(obviously!). The meals each came with a side so we went for the chili and the Carolina slaw. I should mention that all meals come with house pickles too! Guys, I love pickles and these hit the spot! Nice crunch and good spice. I especially liked the carrot pickles. The Shephard’s pie had a nice crisp topping of mashed potatoes over the meat. It was comforting and flavorful. The chili had a great stout flavor which hit the spot on a chilly day. The empanadas were AMAZING! Crisp pie crust with flavorful fillings. I’m glad the kitchen messed up because I loved the beef! The corn empanadas had a creamy and comforting cheesy filling that was great too. They also came with three dipping sauces. Definitely use the mole with the beef because the sweet and savory complement each other nicely. The honey vinegar pie tasted nothing like honey or vinegar however, it was a delightful sweet treat that I could eat again and again. You guys, all this food, which we could not finish was only 24 dollars(12 when split) making this brunch cheaper than many in the city and much tastier if you ask me. I’m so excited O Pie O has joined the Walnut Hills community and it seems to have fit in perfectly. I can’t wait to try their chicken pot pie and enjoy some local beer off their drink menu at dinner time. I Pie O, I’ll be back!!!

Very cute place with convenient parking, some potential for outdoor patio(I was there in winter) and a very casual yet cosy interior. I was really curious to visit this place after getting to know their pies on one of the Unilocal events, but sadly, there was no sparkle. Even though I did like how the space is arranged and designed, when I visited the heating was definitely lacking and the chilling cold made me and most of the fellow guests sit in their jackets on. Every time the door opened, the cold blows of wind just prompted me to leave asap. I am not sure if that was the owners’ concept, but I would not say this place is particularly ‘inviting’ for a dine-in in the winter. I had a slice of Greek quiche with greens on a side. The ‘greens’ were literally just some leaves of lettuce with dressing, quite a simple salad. The quiche was good, but it was definitely not enough for a dinner portion. I imagine it would be sufficient for lunch, but did not encourage me to come back for any sort of afternoon meal. My husband got an Empanada and it was even less food for 8 bucks… With all that being said, I don’t get the concept here. It is not fancy, but it is quite pricy! They have a descent choice of beers and wines, but 5 dollar buys you a CAN of local MadTree, so my initial enthusiasm was definitely chilled for this place :) After spending 40 dollars(tip included) my husband and I left with the feeling we just had an appetizer. But again, maybe I just eat too much! :-))

The pie possibilities are endless! I went to O Pie O on a Saturday around 10:30 looking for a breakfast/brunch option that was different from the usual pancakes and eggs, and happily I found it here! There was no wait and I was seated immediately. First a disclaimer, breakfast technically ends at 10:30am except for Sundays when they have a special brunch menu all day instead. However, when I got there they were happy to serve from either their breakfast or lunch menu due to being right on the cutoff time. I had to give their Shepard’s Pie special a try and I hope that it becomes a regular item on their menu because of how good it was! The pie itself came in a 6−8″ diameter bowl which was plenty for a hungry person, but could possibly be stretched to 2 people. The top was a flaky twice-baked potato crust with turmeric keeping in smooth mashed potatoes and a piping hot beef and lamb bottom layer. The bottom layer had a hearty mix of beef, lamb, carrots, peas, and corn. With the Shepard’s Pie I also got to choose a side and went with their chili. Their chili is a mix of Cincinnati and regular style chili with the flavors of cinnamon and chocolate, but also the heartiness to be a standalone side. It was a great mix of the two styles and is a great way to introduce Cincinnati style chili flavors to non-Cincinnatians, without becoming estranged. Unfortunately, I was so stuffed by the end that I didn’t have any room to try their sweet pies so I’ll have to come back again soon!

O Pie O is my new favorite restaurant in town. Located in East Walnut Hills on De Sales Corner, it’s a great addition to the Renaissance neighborhood. I was a little skeptical at first, as I’m not a huge pie fan. For someone who is known for their love of sweets and baked good it comes as a surprise. I hate cooked fruit. The menu at O Pie O has something for everyone! Sweet, savory, and everything in between. When I went I had the beef empanada with a side salad and green goddess dressing. All of it was incredible. I’m excited to try some of the other options, but I know the empanada will be my go to. For dessert I got the Honey and Vinegar pie. This had to be the BEST pie I’ve ever had. Sweet and salty with a touch of honey. It was perfection. O Pie O’s interior is beautiful with a rustic yet modern feel. They have an incredible outdoor spaces as well. At night the space is lit up with beautiful string lights, it has a definite intimate feel. I’m looking forward to more trips back!

I am so happy that East Walnut Hills has another new«resident» and an expanded selection of restaurants to choose from. I was pleasantly surprised by how expansive O Pie O’s menu was. In addition to its sweet and savory pie selection, the menu features breakfast options, empanadas, turnovers, soups, salads, as well as beer and wine. I particularly liked the Chilean beef empanada and the sauces that accompanied it. Everything I’ve had — including the friendliness with which they were served — has been great, and I am looking forward to getting to try many more menu items, especially the Red-Eyed Flaky Boy. And not only is the menu wonderful, but so is the space itself. The interior features subway tile, ample tables and booths, as well as outdoor seating in warmer weather. The adjacent parking lot makes getting to and from your O Pie O experience convenient, too.
