Rick is awesome. He remembers what I like! I enjoy every time I go to this little treasure. For my boyfriend’s birthday, I asked Rick to pick interesting beers from around the world and make up a six-pack. I earned a lot of points!

All the world’s a stage … however, that stage is even better if you’ve got bottle after bottle of liquor behind you while you stand upon it. A giant group of ours tried to go to Mt. Washington Creamy Whip for a bit of the old after-dinner sweet treat, only to find that it was closed for the season. Luckily, someone knew of this spot right around the corner … literally. It’s around the corner down the alley. This is a classic beer window. Raised stage platform that the owner/worker stands on and shelf after shelf of beer behind him. Tons of different kinds for you to pick and choose from(and pick and choose a six pack if you want.) They also have a small but nice wine shop right next door that you can walk into and browse. Some of the beers are incredibly overpriced here but most are OK. Also, the owner was kind of mean. Not like intentionally so but definitely had a gruff, «Buy something or get out» kind of attitude. Maybe it was just a bad night. Still, this is a fun shop to pick up some unusual items, especially if you’re in Mt. Washington.

We love this place. My husband went here for years to buy unique beers recommended by the staff. I recently started using them for wine and quick ice stops. it couldn’t be a more courteous and convenient pony keg. It is wide open, you get out of your car, take 5 steps and you are ready to purchase. The owner recently recommended this $ 5 bottle of Chardonnay the wine make was trying to close out. I was leery of course at that price but they have never steered me wrong. I loved it and returned to see if he could buy me a case. He did and I have purchased 2 cases since then. They will also give your kids pretzel rods if they are in the car :)

Great place and I love the history of this old ice house. When I lived in Mt. Washington, I was a frequent flyer there. I have an out-of-town friend that had never seen anything like it, and he still asks to go there when in Cincy. The one thing I remember being a little bit of a pain was that it closed at 9PM, and I’d always get there at 9:05. Other than that, it has decent beer selection, ice, wine, snacks, and it is a blast from the past that you should support!

I finally stopped at this place after reading another Unilocal review that said they have Coke in glass bottles. What a delightful place! It is so unique that the staff walks on the counter as you scan the back wall for beers of your choice. In front of the counter are chips(Jay’s potato chips!) and candy(I resisted the candy cigarettes). It isn’t just soda and beer, they have a wine room, too. I noticed a sign that they will deliver beverages and ice to your next party. I ended up talking to the gentleman and learned that his first house is on the same street that I now live. While I love these kind of conversations, I know not everyone is into making acquintances. It is definitely a place to check out if you’re in the neighborhood!

So my boyfriend and I discovered this neat little treasure while on an impromptu local road trip a while back. We passed it two times when we were cruising local streets, trying to find our way to wherever we were going. After passing it twice, we stopped to see what it was. Walking up, we weren’t sure what to expect. The gentleman was friendly and willing to help us out as we tried to figure out what in the world we were looking at. There is a platform on which sits a giant shelf of beers, and the man would walk across it and into a room next to the shelf that had stocked inventory. It was the oddest thing we’d seen, but we soon got used to the unusual shopping setting and started checking out their selection. We walked away with a mix 6-pack of various beers for around $ 10. A decent and rather average price for a 6-pk. of beer, but once you knew what brands of beer we had, you’d know we got a deal. They have many brands and try to keep up with what they have in stock and what they don’t. I’m big on asking for recommendations, and they not only know their stuff, they are friendly about conversing and talking about more than just drinks. We had a great chat about how long they’d been around, what things were going on, etc. I’ve visited a few times, and just today I stopped in. Two kind gentlemen helped me with my drink selection and I am definitely getting hooked. Sure, I can get my drinks from a local grocery store, but when you have a place like this around, it’s definitely worth the extra 10 – 20 minute drive or so to get a chance to meet friendly people and select from a WIDE variety of drinks. We also stopped in the wine room to check out their selection, as my boyfriend is a big wine fan. They have a decent selection — it’s a small room packed with a variety of wines. They also have candy and such. If you are in the area, CHECKITOUT. I’m a big fan of supporting local joints that offer a different shopping experience, and it’s worth taking the time to peruse.

Located just off the main thoroughfare, Mt. Washington Ice & Beer is there to serve all of your beer, wine, tobacco, and candy cravings! I used to work at a business next door to this specialty store and would frequent it on my breaks. The neat thing about this store is that it is mostly outside. They have a counter that opens up to the small parking lot just in front. Below the counter are all of the candy options. Behind the counter you can see the assortment of beers that they offer. There is a door to the left that takes you inside a hallway where they have popsicles, and coolers with soft drinks, juice, and water. One thing I always enjoyed was that they carry the old glass coke bottles. Don’t worry, they will open them for you! I would say the coolest thing about this place is that the people who serve you walk just above you on the counter which is more of a raised platform than a counter. You’ve got to check it out!
