In the late 90s, just a handful of Cincinnati high schools had lacrosse teams and most of their competition hailed from Columbus. These days, lacrosse is much bigger and continues to grow with more and more youth teams and leagues to go along with the high school competition. Enter Laxland Sporting Goods. Laxland has long been the premier, if not only, lacrosse store in town. While companies such as Dick’s Sporting Goods carry lacrosse equipment, why not just go to one lacrosse-specific store? I recently visited Laxland’s store in the Norwood/Oakley area, which used to be in Deer Park. I was surprised to see that Laxland did not have a lot of equipment and gear in their small store, although they can order more as needed. In fact, at the end of this month they will place their orders for the fall, and come September they will have all of the latest and top lacrosse and field hockey equipment. Yes, field hockey, Laxland also carries field hockey equipment, although they are more geared towards lacrosse. Laxland is an authorized dealer of Brine, the top lacrosse brand, while they also carry STX and Warrior equipment. Although they do not have a ton of in-store merchandise, they do carry plenty of shafts/heads(shafts + heads = sticks), gloves, pads, helmets, balls, and even some accessories like stringing kits. Like I said, they can replenish their store at any time, so when field hockey starts and the fall and when lacrosse is in full swing in the spring, look for them to be even busier and more stocked. The lone employee working when I stopped in was very helpful and friendly, and was able to answer all of my questions. Laxland also sponsors tournament and summer leagues and I wouldn’t be surprised if teams go straight to them for all their equipment needs. They also do a lot of online orders, and have been doing so since 1996, although they are in the process of improving their website. As lacrosse continues to grow in the Queen City, Laxland will likely continue to be a great stop and a must visit for all lacrosse players, although it is good for field hockey too.
