This is such a cute little shop! I was drawn in off the street by their large selection and window display of Charlie Harper art. We went in to look around and I found several original prints, framed and non-framed, as well as unique gifts, all with CH art on them. Some of my favorite are the coffee mugs which were around $ 12 and sets of dishes and glassware with various animals all over them. They also have unique Cincinnati art and local artists’ prints. It is a great place to come if you want a unique Cincinnati gift or are looking for anything Charlie Harper. The art is also very affordable.

One of many in a local chain, this place is well worth a visit for any fans of the artwork of Charlie Harper, the brilliant and influential 1950’s and 60’s illustrator, whose distinctive modern drawing style is an instantly recognizable symbol of the modernist-inspired spirit of popular art, advertising, and design of that era. They’ve got a great selection of Harper prints, including signed and limited editions, as well as lots of Harper related items – books, mugs, puzzles, posters, etc. While in the neighborhood, head down the street to the federal building at 550 main st to see the wall sized Charlie Harper designed tile mural in the lobby.

I can’t say that I have been to the other art galleries downtown, but I found myself outside Fabulous Frames & Art yesterday and decided to take a look. Fabulous Frames also has locations in Montgomery and Northgate, but its new downtown location is nice and very new looking. The framing and artwork store is actually family owned and operated, and has been since it was founded back in 1981. I really liked what I saw from an artwork standpoint, and although it wasn’t as fancy or as unique as the stuff you would see at the 5th Street Gallery(in the Hilton Netherland Plaza), Fab Frames has a lot of neat prints and a ton of work from local artists such as Charley Harper. Being a big sports fan I was pretty into all the framed photos of sports stadiums and action shots(Bearcats, Reds, Bengals, Buckeyes, Fighting Irish), but they also have a great selection of framed Cincinnati cityscapes and panoramas. In addition to their typical«museum quality framing»(custom or pre-framed), Fabulous Frames also does residential and corporate art consulting and artwork installation, and they do worldwide shipping. Not to be overshadowed by their many great services, the staff is also very friendly. I definitely recommend stopping in if you are in the Vine and Race Street areas, and you shouldn’t be disappointed.
