Bamboo House

Yum!!! While the atmosphere is bland, the food is anything but. I went for sushi and was not disappointed. The fish was fresh and the rolls were creative. It was a great price for the size and quality. Two people, four rolls, two glasses of wine for $ 45. I’ll be back for sure.

Food was fantastic. Traveling from NY & always Leary of land locked states & fresh fish/​seafood. Was totally delighted with our sushi. Ordered 4 rolls– Dragon, Philadelphia, spicy tuna & spider roll. All were heavenly! The food gets 5 stars but service only 4. I’m on a gluten free diet (health issues) & when I asked about GF soy sauce, the waitress said they didn’t have any because not many people asked for it. She then told us that Krogers carried it if we wanted to buy some. I thought this remark was rather odd. A $ 3 investment in a bottle of GF soy sauce would go a long way. I would go back nonetheless.

I love this place. I live near by and frequently order take out and eat in this restaurant. They have a fantastic sushi bar and a full menu of fresh, homemade Chinese food. The owners are husband and wife who choose to decorate parts of their restaurant with their young children’s artwork. They are an Asian family that live near by. They are very friendly and give this place a welcoming, homey kind of feel. Drop in and say hi. Maybe make a few new friends.

I am surprised at the low scores for this place. Small husband/​wife run place. We’ve been coming for years as I prefer sushi with very little rice in the roll and obviously the best tasting sushi grade fish. Granted it is not cheap, but think quality vs.quantity. This is one of the best small, independent Asian eateries in Cincinnati. Only a few tables that consistently delivers outstanding sushi, serving up great entrees, etc. Fresh vegetables, fantastic green curry soup, some of the best shrimp fried rice.

It is helpful to people that don’t know your odd schedule to remove the OPEN sign from view when you’re actually closed.

I didn’t find the sushi to taste that great, especially for the price. Also the service could’ve been better; the server yelled at her kids the whole time I was waiting for my food to be ready so I could get out of there.

Food was ok for outside Cincinnati. The owners kids kept yelling and the boy kept riding his bike in a circle next to me. Not a huge deal but still.
When I went up to get my check since the woman disappeared, I noticed that the Sashimi dinner was $ 4 more than advertised. Not a huge deal but I am giving a 1 star because the chef said, «Oh that’s the wrong price and it’s an old menu. The computer is correct. » Not a sorry, not a care, not a fu@k given.

Service was terrible. Waitress clearly wasn’t in the mood for customers.
There were two small children who clearly belonged to the chef and waitress were loudly yelling and riding bikes around our table while we were eating. The entire time. When mentioned to chef by other customers he gave an apologetic look but did nothing.
Oddly the food was alright.
After we checked out (had to find the register because our server had disappeared 20 minutes prior) we noticed the bill was a lot higher than we anticipated. Evidently they updated their prices on the register but not their menus. We had a FIVE DOLLAR UPCHARGE on just one item with several others between $ 1-​$ 2… So a +$ 10 difference in total. When we went back and asked why we were charged so much (despite showing listed price on menu) the chef just shrugged and said the register was the right amount.
I get that this is clearly a family run establishment but don’t punish your customers with awful experiences!

Mediocre sushi. Only a couple on the west side to choose from. Rude. Called them a few times before someone answered to get a order to go. Told me 15 min. Got there at 4:15 –3 signs on the place say open 4 – 10 sundays and the door was locked. Sat in my car in the rain called back they told me 10 – 20 more minutes. Got my food came home with the wrong $ 13.00 sushi roll. Totally pissed! I hate eel! You have 1 job people thats take an order and fill it-!

DELICIOUS!!! A friend and I shared the Firecracker roll, sexy roll, eel and cucumber roll and spicy salmon roll. They were all superb!!!

Ok sushi. Nothing outstanding. Very small place. Only a few chairs. Bench seats have carpet rugs as cushions. When the door opens you immediately feel the cold air. Temperature of place is 65 degrees. It’s 28 outside. House salad was watered down with runny ginger dressing. Rolls weren’t horrible but weren’t the best for the price. No half price sushi at all. Average roll around $ 13-​$ 15. I think I’d rather drive downtown or Hyde park for better quality and cheaper.

Great sushi especially for the price. Presented very well and super fresh. Service was quick and everyone working was very nice. Priced very well for what you get.

Painfully bad… Mediocre sushi, small portion size. I got the 9 pieces of sashimi and 2 rolls it was 30 bucks. I wasnt even full. Just moved back to cincy and on the lookout for my sushi spot. Ill never be back here.

We enjoy coming here. The chef/​owner always makes a point to get to know his customers and the food is quite good. I was a little confused about the other reviews because everything we have had has been delicious. But everyone has their own tastes and ours are delighted by the fare here.
Even the sushi is something to be happy about (and I have had sushi in Hawaii, Japan and various other places known for good fare)
The restaurant is small, but that is not a bad thing. The reason it gets 4 rather than 5 stars is because the price is a tad high. But that won’t stop us from going back.

I’ve visited Bamboo House several times now and every time I’ve been pleased. The service is quick and friendly. I’ve been here for my lunch break, business meetings, and impromptu sushi dates. The room is tastefully decorated and roomier than you might guess. Most importantly, I’ve liked everything I’ve ordered.

Who knew there is decent sushi on the west side? We just happened to come across Bamboo House, tucked away in a strip mall on the far west side, one day. After checking out the cleanliness of the place (very clean) we ordered a pile of rolls. Fresh and delicious! The plating was also done very artistically and the prices were about average, maybe even lower than I would expect.
We had our 2 year old with us and the two people working (I think they were the owners) made us feel welcome with him, which I appreciate. He had the veggie fried rice while the rest of us had rolls.
The décor is eclectic and the place is small, but who cares? It is a casual place. The food and the service are great. looking forward to returning.

Very good sushi. My wife got a teriyaki chicken dish which she said was excellent. Kinda small inside and doesn’t look too fancy from the outside, but solidly good food and service! Will repeat.

Nothing special. I had the Dragon Roll and it was ok. The same dragon roll that I have had a the hundred other 2 — 3 star sushi joints. Sushi chef was friend, server was not. Conclusion– if your in the area, check it out. But do not go out of your way.

Synopsis: Overpriced sushi and mediocre/​poor Asian food. Go elsewhere.
As desperate as I was for Asian food (I only generalize Asian food because it is poorly differentiated here in Cincinnati), I was extremely unimpressed. I think even Panda Express does a better job cooking Asian food than this place. I’m actually embarrassed to think that this place might make some people to think that this is real Asian food.
Our experience here started out friendly enough. They gave us complementary fried cream cheese wontons drenched in sweet and sour sauce. That’s always a nice gesture. (Sidenote: there is absolutely nothing about cream cheese that is Asian) It all then went downhill from there…
First mistake: I made the poor decision to try out their sushi. I ordered their Spider Roll ($ 11.95) which I thought was a relatively decent price (when you are from LA)…that was until my roll came and it consisted of 6 mediocre pieces of sushi drenched in some dark mystery sushi sauce (see picture). For this price I would at least expect to get the whole crab in my sushi.
Second mistake: One of my other friends ordered their hot and sour soup which came with too much black pepper and a side of stale fried wonton skins (?). That was her mistake, but mine was accepting her offer and eating one of her stale fried wonton skins. It tasted like… FISH. I don’t know what was more repulsive, the fact that they served stale food or that they fry all their food in the same oil. I almost threw up.
I would give it one star if not for the fact that my friend’s teriyaki salmon dish looked and smelled decent. Not sure about the taste. Try it If you are feeling adventurous. They also give you fortune cookies at the end of your meal which tastes almost as bad as their chips. BUT, if you’re lucky maybe you’ll get a fortune so dreadful that it’s funny. Believe me, they exist. That definitely made our evening.
I’m certain you can find another place better than this to satisfy your sushi or Chinese food cravings… or just Asian food in general. But if you must come here, you have been warned.
