Great hometown café. Very good comfort food at reasonable prices. And the owners are great people that will get to know you personally.

My mother, brother and I stopped into the Apple Tree for lunch one a rather depressing afternoon. I cannot say enough good things about the food, the service or the the variety. I had the french toast special and it was to die for. My mother got the pulled pork sandwich and enjoyed it beyond all means. My brother got fried chicken and he devoured the entire plate. Very good prices. Drinks, meal and dessert for three people under $ 40 with the tip. The service was exceptational. I will make the drive across the river to eat there more often.

Nice little place but better to take you parents or elderly friends long. Friendly service and good homestyle food. They serve breakfast anytime. I had the sampler basket with Fish Chicken Shrimp Coleslaw hush puppies and fries. Pretty tasty. Will come back for breakfast! Reasonably priced and a clean homey atmosphere with lots of knick knacks around. This ia a local favorite place from the way people are talking!

Nice neighborhood diner. Food is plentiful and good. Prices are reasonable and service is good. I have had the quiche which was really good, the vegetable soup… really good, the BBQ and the BLT. Good place to stop for lunch or dinner. My husband swears on the omelets. Definitely worth a try.

Quality ingredients, good preparation, very fair prices. Good service unless they get really crowded and are understaffed.

Great little breakfast spot that I recently discovered. Nothing fancy, just a clean little place that’s easy to miss if you aren’t careful. Very clean and bright. I’ve only been for breakfast, since there’s such a dearth of decent breakfast places in the area. Hot, well-prepared meals and very friendly staff. Things can get a little slow when busy, but it’s worth the wait. I’ll be back soon…

I really, really wanted to like this place. There was a single diner when we entered at about 6 on a Saturday evening and as we finished a group of senior citizens came in and took the table in the back. The owners were very nice and friendly but the atmosphere is claustrophobic, dreary, dusty, dirty feeling and overwhelmingly depressing. A little of their kitsch goes a long way and it made the place feel even narrower than it is. Music would do a world of good, instead there’s a big flat screen over the counter turned to the History Channel. Why? I had open face roast beef on mashed potatoes and white bread with gravy. It was astoundingly horrific. Think dog food on chemically instant potatoes. I could not believe something could taste so bad. I have never had anything so awful in all my decades of dining out. My companion had chili over spaghetti. The plate was filled with water, the chili passable, in the way some mom’s food is. Pumpkin pie tasted like a slab of nutmeg on a pale white undercooked crust. The taste of spice was so pronounced that if I hadn’t been told it was pumpkin I wouldn’t have known. The part that was baked brown was dry and flavorless. The owner, at least I think he was, being a kind guy, brought over an old Life photo book from the 70’s to look through while we waited for the ‘food’. The mildew smell was overpowering and fit in perfectly with the aged, outdated feel of the place. Honestly, go to Half Price and pick up some clean books from this decade. One day I MIGHT try this place again but I would stick to breakfast. It’s difficult to mess up breakfast, but then this might just be the place to do so.

Hubby & I ate there Fri lunch after nearby doctor’s appt. I recently just got out of the hosp where I almost died and was really savoring eating out in a favorite restaurant again. My Hubby ordered the French Onion Soup. Oh, my! It was barely flavored H20. He saw the other chef, whom we couldn’t wait to return from his surgery, nuke it in the microwave! The soup was the worse FOSoup we had ever tasted. My Hubby would have sent it back, but he is a diabetic and needed food immediately due to low blood sugar. He used to be in the restaurant business and he knew they had watered down the soup to stretch it out. He never did it, but was familiar with the unethical practice when businesses were not thriving. He ordered the Chef’s Salad and was pleasantly surprised. It was loaded with really good ham, turkey, hard boiled eggs, etc. Way more meat than lettuce. The Blue Cheese Dressing was again another watered down item and lacking any real Blue Cheese. The real butter was delicious, but the roll was cold and taken from fridge to plate. You Nuke FOSoup which is a mortal sin and you cannot even heat up a roll! I chose the Philly Cheese Steak and again was disappointed. Hardly any onions or green peppers, both of which I love in abundance anytime. Beef was plentiful and tasted good. Sandwich roll was home made, soft and tasty. Could have had a bit more Provolone for my tastes. It was served with crinkled chips. I guess I was expecting some of their delicious fries, but they were not forthcoming. I am not a cheap, crinkled cut chip person! Would have asked for Fries if didn’t assume they came with the sandwich. I had a scrumptious piece of Lemon Meringue Pie. Crust was tender, crumbly, and lemon filling had just the right amount of tartness. Meringue was steeped high and light and airy. She comped our drinks as I finally let her know when we first came in that I was the one who put her Restaurant on Unilocal. She said her Husband keeps up on all of that and was very grateful. I do think something was off that day. She had no waitstaff, was out of most bread and bakery goods, disappeared a lot, causing the Chef to deliver food orders to the table. Said her Sister was baking today, but never smelled a thing as should have been the case in an intimate restaurant. Still very quiet and with friendly customers and several walk-ins. Hubby suggested they only put down silverware rolled in a napkin vs leaving a container of napkins tableside to cut costs instead of watering down the food items! He had many other cost cutting ideas to help keep them from going under while still serving such great food as we experienced previously. Do not know what happened, but it is a shame! Hated to do this review. My Hubby and I said I had to do it, because that is what true Unilocalers do… The Truth, even though it might be temporarily painful for everyone. How else can a business improve if they never receive constructive, honest, from the heart, criticism. Well, signing off, sadly! Judy W.

This location is wrong. I live a half mile from Miami & Kugler Mill and there is no restaurant or strip mall. Besides a church on the corner there are only houses.

Saw the ad for the café in one of those coupon magazines. Went there for a late dinner. I had the deluxe cheeseburger with fries and my friend had the beef stroganoff. Burger was delicious and the fries were cooked just right. My friend enjoyed his order was well. Check was 20 bucks with tip. Will definitely come back!

Great inexpensive and fast lunch in an old«country-style» type environment… located in a strip mall, you’d definitely miss it if you weren’t looking for it… actually from the outside it looks like some kind of money-lending institution… My sandwich was great though. Toasty bread, crispy bacon, fresh turkey… can’t go wrong!

A little slice of Americana … right here in a strip mall. I didn’t know what to expect when I set up a meeting at Apple Tree. I had to find a place close to this woman’s office but I didn’t want to do it at a Starbucks or Panera(I really do try to support local businesses whenever I can, cliché as they may be.) I did a search and Apple Tree came up — why not! You’ll find Apple Tree Café hidden away in a strip mall, which makes you feel a little confused. With a name like Apple Tree Café, you kind of expect adorable surrounding and grandmothers making pies and so on. Just wait — all you have to do is step through those doors. Ah, here it is. Wooden benches, knick-knacks on the walls, even a «general store» portion against the wall filled with postcards and bad arts and crafts. Now this place feels like home. We were sat by a friendly waitress and given our menu. Nothing overwhelming here — your basic taste of diner America. Hamburgers, meatloaf, sandwiches, etc. I got the soup and sandwich combo, which meant I got a small soup(broccoli cheddar) and any sandwich(BLT). They were indeed very tasty. It’s a little out of my way to come back here, but if I’m in the neighborhood, I’d check them out again.

Saturday past, went to the Apple Tree, it was not very busy at 6:20pm so the service was excellent. Two in my party had the chicken and dumplings and was just like homemade. I would suggest the cup rather than the bowl for economy and appetite purposes as it was filling. The two piece chicken dinner special was good as well with great breading. I had the black angus burger all the way w/fries and it was above average. Seeing the place busy at dinner would have gotten them one more star from me. For an area that lacks decent family dining, this place should be packed.

We stopped by for breakfast last weekend — got a coupon in Reach magazine. You’d never know it was a restaurant if you weren’t right up on it. It’s in the strip mall on the left end. Biscuits and gravy weren’t so great but the rest of the meal was good. And they have fresh donuts — yum! We’ll be back for lunch some other time!

I’ve been watching this space in Dillonvale for the past several weeks as the owners prepared to open the restaurant in anticipation. Deer Park could use a few more local family type restaurants like this one! I visited at lunchtime(12:15 or so) with my father and my two kids, aged 18 months and 3 years. Every booth was full as well as several tables, but a kind customer offered us his booth as he was by himself. Also, one of the other servers brought a small chalkboard and chalk to my 3 year old. He thought this was great and entertained himself happily drawing for quite a while. Nice touch. We ordered the mushroom-swiss burger, a Philly cheese steak sandwich and the children’s grilled chicken tenders with mac and cheese. The burger and sandwich were both delicious. They were sizable portions, hot and fresh. The Philly cheese steak had lots of sauteed red and green peppers as well as onions which I could eaten all on their own! The only suggestion to take these sandwiches over the top would be to toast the buns. The children’s meal was disappointing, however. Initially my son ordered the cheesy eggs and bacon kids meal. I was told though, that even though it was on the lunch menu, it was not available after 11 am. This was disappointing for my son, so we had to make a new quick decision. I chose the grilled chicken as a healthier option. The«grilled» chicken tenders were deep fried. I tried to ask my waitress about this, but after bringing our food, she seemed to disappear. I did ask the cashier about it. She said that it should have been a grilled chicken tender, not fried, that she would speak to the cooks about it as they had probably never gotten that order yet(the restaurant opened on Oct 1, only a few days ago). The mac and cheese was gummy to my adult palate, though my 3 year old ate it right up. Also, though the menu mentions a drink included with the children’s meal, we did not receive one nor were asked about one. Overall, it seems that this place is working out the kinks of having just opened. The wait staff appeared a bit frazzled and not very attentive. A third server during the lunch hour would be very helpful. The sandwiches were yummy and would make me certainly come back for takeout. I will be back to try out the breakfast as well. It is disappointing that the all day breakfast as stated on their website is not available. I still have high hopes for this restaurant and can see it becoming a regular in our eating out rotation, especially if the breakfast is delicious.
