This place sets off my spidey-senses. Every time I walk in, I get that hair-raising feeling that I’m about to find the end-all of all thrifting bargains. I haven’t yet, but I’m sure one of these days I’m going to discover something wonderful. It’s got that vibe to it. Oh, and the woman who owns it is a sweetheart. Not to mention the fact that she’s willing to haggle on price.

I’ve been to 2nd Chance twice now, first to purchase, then to donate. This is a true ‘thrift’ store. It’s items are not curated like some of the higher end 2nd hand stores, but crowded lovingly on the racks till they sag. You can find some great items at really great prices, but you’ve got to be willing to do the leg work to spot that treasure. Additionally, all the proceeds go directly to New Direction Treatment Services, who offer drug and alcohol addiction programs. I highly recommend donating locally. I know you’re thinking, «I’ve never mailed my old dress shirts to Estonia, of course I donate locally!», but many of the larger chain thrifts may ship your donated items to a central processing area to be classified and distributed overseas. I won’t get in to all the reasons this can be bad. But in short form, just keep it local!
