The trail along the south side of the Oklahoma River is well maintained. Beautiful views of the OKC skyline. Biked from the parking lot at 15th down to the east end of the trail and back. Reclaimed wetland areas make for an urban ride with a rural feel. The trail does pass close to the stockyards… be prepared for 100 yards of stench.

The Oklahoma River Trails contain 13 miles of multiuse, asphalt trails, which are located on the north and south banks of the river. The trails are level, and paved. Due to construction, trail access isn’t very easy to get to, at least not from Bricktown. Even if you follow the map, make note that there is some construction going on that isn’t necessarily clear until you get there. For example, if you start from the Bricktown canal and travel south from the vicinity of Sonic Burger offices and Bass Pro Shops, then pass the Centennial Land Run Monument, looks like the undercrossing to get to the main river is closed due to construction. I had to run backwards along the canal to Reno Ave., then go east towards the freeway interchanges, then south back onto Lincoln Blvd. and follow it towards the boathouse. After that debacle, I didn’t want to go very far without seeing a crossover to the south-end(because I wanted to run portions of both the north and south trails), though never saw one until I crossed on the vehicle overpass on SE. 15th St. Note that if you do this from the north side of the river, you have to run under the overpass briefly before jaunting up the slope to the sidewalk… Again, since I’m not familiar with the area, and didn’t want to go too far without«deading-end», so while on the south-side of the river, I crossed over again at the Byers Ave. vehicle overpass, which takes you back to the boathouse(after which I crossed over Lincoln Blvd. to get back into downtown). I estimate that I did maybe 6 miles including the run back to my hotel(Aloft at 2nd and Walnut). To summarize — Deserted trail and only saw one person, but this wasn’t a bad thing because the trails are also visible, which I think is important for safety, and being«pedestrian-friendly». Super clean and well-maintained. A pretty good length. Very green, with grass and trees, and also enough clearings to get a view of the skyline. Once construction is finished, accessible from Bricktown.
