I had a credit union account with OECU for a little over a year as a second account since my main bank account doesn’t have a branch in Oklahoma City. I also thought they would be a good option for opening a home loan when the time comes, so I figured it would be good practice to establish a good rapport with this credit union. Every now and then I would transfer money into the account, but wasn’t very active in making deposits or using my debit card. They called me a few times this month and I assumed the calls were solicitations for auto or home loans(as I received similar offers from them in the mail). Come to find out, after the third unreturned phone call, they shut down my account due to inactivity with no option to re-open it. This is a ridiculous practice. They should have sent something in the mail to warn me that my credit union account was about to be shut down. Three unanswered phone calls(with no indication in the voicemails that it’s a serious matter) should not be the trigger(especially considering their hours are only 8:30 — 4:30, and I can’t always answer the phone or return phone calls during work hours). OECU just lost my future home loan, and now I have no access to the money in my account until the certified check arrives in the mail.

I was with Chase bank for as long as I can remember until 2012, a few years after I started as full time state employee. It’s not only right next door to my office, the rates, fees, and everything else like that are great. I still have one credit card with Chase but as soon as I pay off the remaining balance, I will not be using that credit card anymore but instead just use the one from the Oklahoma Employees Credit Union. I highly recommend this credit union to anyone.

I love this credit union. The brand new, beautiful building, nice staff and a convenient location for Downtown, Midtown, Health Campus/Capitol and more. I also love that they go out of their way to support a lot of local events. From Sugar and Spurs to Plaza Fest and many more, they are everywhere. Besides, a Credit Union just makes sense. From lower rates and lower penalties to keeping your money local, there are a hundred reasons to go to a credit union over a big bank.

Cust service at S OKC location on 119th street is pathetic. They have only one teller every time I have been there so the cust service in the lobby is extremely slow. The drive in is also slow if there is more than one car there. I was promised a free safe deposit box when I joined, o0nly to find out none of the ‘free’ boxes are available at this location. The bill paying service is contracted out to some other provider and is not easy to use and the help line staff are not at all helpful. In 2 months 3 checks issued via bill pay were lost or misdirected, resulting in me having to spend 30 minutes on the phone with OECU staff to get the problem corrected. The bill pay system deducts the payment from your account when the check is cut, not when submitted for payment. Checks proicessed cannot be viewed on-line. I have requested that a credit union officer call me to discuss my concerns but they have never called, I also went th their office and requested to speak to one of the officers and was told that they were not available but would call me via phone whiche they never did. I am closing my accounts at OECU and miving to another financial institurion. s

I worked in banking for 13 years before becoming a state employee. I say this only because OECU does it better than any bank I worked for in my prior life. They have incredible rates and excellent service. I love their new and used car rates. They offer more loans than banks and it really helps when you cannot afford a new, or nearly new car. The savings rates are great too!
