We were visiting OKC Valentines Weekend and stumbled upon Live on the Plaza. Katiebug’s was there serving up some super delicious Hot Chocolate. Boy did we need it with how chilly it was! We both tried the Snickerdoodle and just fell in love! If you ever see this truck on a cold day, definitely stop and try one of their specialty flavors! :) I wish we lived closer to the area so we could try their other flavors.

What’s not to love about Katiebug’s? From the name to the darling trailer to the actual snow cones themselves, I love it all! Specifically, I love the fresh, homemade syrups that aren’t artificially sweetened nor over-the-top sugary. Also, they feature dozens of interesting flavors and fun combos like lavender lemonade, strawberry basil and Arnold Palmer, as well as lots of kiddo– and purist– pleasing regular stuff! For me, my money’s usually on strawberry lemonade, and it’s just the right amount of flavorful. I also appreciate that it’s not full of artificial coloring. I don’t need Red Dye Number 5 to enjoy my snow cone party! I’ve had the snow cones several times, and I like to go all out, opting for the regular size, dome-top and I add the organic gummy bears because life is short and organic gummy bears are for winners. I also love their use of compostable cups, paper straws and wooden spoons — no bad trash here! Soon enough, summer will give way to fall and we’ll be in prime hot chocolate territory. I’ll report back when I’ve had a chance to try that goodness.

Who knew flavored ice could taste like heaven? Probably everyone else because I’m a little late to the game… I stopped by the truck right as they opened tonight at Industry Flea and H&8th and tried a cinnamon roll flavored snow-cone. Holy smokes it was tasty. You know how on some snow-cones you sip away all the flavor and are left with ice that you mush around and try to slurp some more. Well not here. It was spoonable and drinkable all the way to the bottom.(Plus how cool is the wooden spoon and paper straw?) All of it really made the experience if Katiebug’s a perfect 5 stars.

I stumbled across this sno come place when I was waiting in line for a different food truck. And I must say, I’m so glad I did because their sno cones are delicious! They are all natural which is a plus. It’s a little pricey but I will get it if I was treating myself! The ice is perfect. I’ve tried a couple of flavors(mango, raspberry lemonade, Arnold Palmer) and the hibiscus lemonade has been my favorite! Not too sweet. And It doesn’t leave a syrup texture in my mouth afterward. Definitely worth a try!

Shaved ice is just that, Shaved Ice. Then there is KatieBugs. They use only hand crafted cane syrups that are Sooo yummy. Last time I went I had blueberries and crème It tasted like actual blue berries not ‘fake’ and 0 food dyes. The shaved ice is served in compostable cups and a wooden spoon. I like that. Next time you see that shiny camper run to be first in line!

Katiebugs, where have you been all my life? Specifically where were you when I was a kid and wanted snow cones all the time but my mom didn’t want me on a sugar high all the time?! If I’d had your homemade, fresh icy goodness then my mom wouldn’t have been able to tell me no! But seriously. Fresh, refreshing, complex flavors that are an upgrade from even your best childhood memory. My mom, sister snd I met at the darling truck after stalking her all week on Instagram and we each had a different flavor so we could share(all various forms of lemonade flavors). My only regret is that we didn’t get an extra one since my toddler loved them all so much but I’m so glad to know that she must be a staple in my summer sweet treat rotation. Go like this lovely lady on social and don’t pass up an opportunity to up your shaved ice game!

A-OK is pretty fair. They have some interesting flavors, but most snocone places do nowadays. While I understand they use quality ingredients to make their syrups, $ 4 for a very small cup is a bit steep for me. The hibiscus snocone was pretty good. This is a place I’d visit if I was immediately around it(say H&8th), but I personally live by a more affordable place that I like a bit more. It’s cute, though!

Finally got a chance to try Katiebug’s after determining I absolutely had to get on over there when they announced champagne marshmallows for New Year’s. First and foremost, they are SO friendly! Here it is, New Year’s Eve, they’re scheduled until midnight(therefore missing out on any fun plans), and it’s absolutely freezing outside, and they have bright, smiling faces! Kudos to them for that! I didn’t go all out by trying the different flavors to add to the hot chocolate or the different marshmallows. I just stuck with the Hug in a Mug(classic hot chocolate) and got the champagne marshmallows on the side. The hot chocolate on its own is fabulous. Chocolately, creamy… everything you could hope for in a cup. Adding the champagne marshmallow gave it a nice additional touch of flavor when all melted and mixed in. The marshmallow itself was big, light, and fluffy. I am not at all a fan of the store bought ones that seem to be only good for s’mores. Katiebug’s marshmallows are the kind I would just snack on by themselves. Glancing over the menu, I saw many things I wanted to try. When I have a bit more time, and when I’m not a living and walking popsicle, I definitely plan on getting a few other varieties.
