Inertia is a terrible thing when it keeps you going to spots that aren’t cutting the mustard, and I’ve reached the point now where I’m cutting ties and moving on to greener metaphors. As luck would have it, my last visit was the best one I’ve ever had. But since the optometrist was out of town and had a sub filling in, that’s not exactly a rousing endorsement. The inefficiencies are minor but they bug me … for example, if none of my information has changed since my last visit, I shouldn’t have to fill out all the paperwork for a new patient on every visit. And if I argue with you and you insist that I still must fill out all the paperwork, don’t wait until I sign the last block on the last damn sheet and then say«oh, I just meant the first half.» And they’ve lost all my records except for the last couple years, so that doesn’t inspire much confidence either. As far as the care I’ve received, I try to avoid rating the quality of medical care because I’m no doctor and what the heck do I know. But the substitute optometrist adopted a very different approach than the usual fellow, and he at least was a better communicator. So I’m done. This year, I’m looking for a well-run office and a sharp optometrist in the same location. I just have to ask myself: Is the new optometrist better? Or worse? Better? Or worse? How about now?
