First visit. OMG! The best homemade corn tortillas I’ve ever had. Menudo delicious, with tripe & hominy. The complementary salsa with chunks of avocado & queso yum. I will return.

This place isn’t one of my favorite places, but I’ve never had a bad experience with them and it’s close to my job so I come pretty often. They have switched owners a few times over the years, so if you’ve had a bad experience in the past, chances are it was under a different management. I’m pretty content with the current management. The servers are nice and the décor is pretty authentic. The food is good. I like that the salsa they serve with chips as an appetizer is actually authentic salsa, not just tomato salsa. I’ve had the fajitas before and they’re okay. My favorite is their Caldo de Siete Mares(Seven Sea Soup). It’s huge — I always take the left overs for dinner.

I am not going to lie I was a little hesitant coming to this place because the parking lot was empty but I am glad my boyfriend choose this place. Don’t let the looks fool you this is a hidden gem. My boyfriend and I both got the Carne Asada. D to the LICIOUS! 2 decent size pieces of steak that were marinated to perfection! Most Mexican restaurants do little seasoning if any to their beef but not here. This is similar to marinated fajita meat you can get at the latino markets. Served with guacamole salad, rice and beans. I cleaned the plate. scraped it and all. I was not too fond of the salsa and queso but my boyfriends loved the salsa. Chips were freshly made and very good. I am sure I will be back!

If u are expecting Taco Bell don’t waste your time here. This place is badass. It may not be much to look at and the service is not 5 star. This place is for real when it comes to food. They don’t mess around with fake or canned stuff. They make it. The fajitas were badass. I ate until I was full and then ate some more. The waitress was nice. Good normal service. Checked on me every ten minutes. She got a big tip. This place has not fallen prey to the Americanized Mexican foot movement. If I was from here this place would be my go to. The neighborhood is not for the weak at heart. Grow a set and get dinner there

I just moved to OKC and this was my first experience with Mexican food here. I went here at breakfast-time on a weekday, hoping to be able to get some authentic breakfast tacos. I arrived at around 10:00 a.m. and was their only customer. They told me I could sit anywhere, so I plopped down at a booth and the waitress promptly came over to bring me a menu, chips and salsa, and to take my drink order. She brought my diet coke over quickly while I perused the breakfast options. Unfortunately, there were no breakfast tacos on the menu, so I settled for huevos con jamon instead. I put the menu down and waited for the waitress to come back over to take my order. I waited and waited. The waitress was chatting it up with two other employees and had her back to me, so I guess she didn’t realize that I was waiting for so long — even though I was the only customer in the entire restaurant. Finally, after about 10 minutes of sitting idly at my table waiting for her to finish her conversation with her friend, she came back and took my order. The food came out pretty quickly. The ham and eggs came with rice and beans and a side of tortillas. The tortillas were the cheap, store-bought kind. Not good. The ham and eggs were okay. Nothing special, but tasted fine. The rice was really good by my standards(and I am quiet the connoisseur of Mexican food) — best I’ve had in a long time. The beans were pretty bland, but fine if you just smear them on the tortilla to make a little egg taco. Overall, it was a lot of food and I finished feeling really full. When I finished, I pushed the plate away and waited for my waitress to come back so I could ask for the check. I had pretty much cleaned my plate because I was so hungry, so there really couldn’t have been a question about whether I was done. I waited and waited. I didn’t see my waitress anywhere. There was a small group of people eating at a table near me by the time I finished, so I knew she must have been around since she had served them after me. I played on my phone while I waited, but she still didn’t come back. I was starting to wonder if she had left the restaurant. The people at the other table could tell I was looking around and saw me craning my neck to see if she had gone into the back or something. I really had no idea what happened to her and was starting to get annoyed. Finally, after about 20 minutes or me sitting there after I had finished my food(still, with barely anyone in the restaurant), she got up from the table nearby and came to ask me if I was done. It turns out, my waitress sat down and had a meal with another table of people and just ignored me until she was done with her meal! I was stunned. Is this typical for OKC? I’ve never heard of it being okay for a restaurant to only have one server and to give them permission to sit down and eat an entire meal with your friends while ignoring all customers until you are done with your lunch break. At that point, she got up from her other table of customers and brought me my check. I just left the cash and tip on the table and walked out. I spent over an hour in that restaurant when it probably couldn’t have taken more than 20 minutes for me to eat. The bill came out to $ 11 for a diet coke and the ham and eggs — very pricey compared to what I’m used to. The make things worse, somehow I got a flat tire in the restaurant parking lot and my tire was completely flattened when I walked out. Very disappointing, OKC. Don’t think I’ll be checking this place out again.

OMG! El Asadero !!! I’m completely smitten! I recently gave up Looking for real authentic Mexican food in OKC& have been driving all the way to the Texas border like an idiot to get my fiesta on! Everyone that knows me knows I have a little inner Mexican & he gets hungry for Real Mexican often!!! What a pain he has been! LOL I was driving down Western Ave & bang! I saw the El Asadero sign, it was glowing like a magical oasis in the desert surrounded by sun beams like a sign from the ancient Aztecs sun gods! A little inner voice(Jose) cries«pull over now gringo It’s time for Mexican fiesta!» Jose was hungry & he always gets his way ;) Hubby & I walked into this joint & what a complete Mexican dive just like in Mexico complete with Mexican music & crazy festive colors & décor. Its an old brick square building with big windows all around lots of light & big orange booths that wrap around the room with tables in the middle and a semi-open kitchen at one end. We were the only gringos in the place. We slide into a booth & a waitress quickly appears with two menus & takes our drink order. We get a couple Coronas, she brings chips, salsa, & queso. The chips were fresh made, the salsa was really good & the queso was on par with most free queso around town. We order a chile relleno & a tamale al la carte for starters. When she brought those things out & sat them down b4 us hubby took one bite of that chile relleno & his eyes bout popped out of his head like a cartoon character! I peeled that corn husk off that tamale & the aroma alone comin off it filled my head with visions of days gone by traveling my favorite country, Mexico. Hubby & I were passing them back & forth to each other eating them like wild mad dogs fighting over the last morsel! LOL He was as astonished as I was! We quickly wave the waitress back over & after I vowed my allegiance to her heavenly chile relleno & it being the best I have ever had in my life, I then promised to worship the El Asadero Gods for all eternity if I may have another. She was very kind & appreciated my truth & sincerity. She totally relaxes, a big smile forms on her face from ear to ear, then says we should try the tacos & the special taco sauce! «Tacos & special sauce?!» OMG! YES! There must be more heavenly offerings! «Yes, please bring us the tacos & special sauce!» WOW, Hubby & I are really excited now! There can’t be more awesomeness from the Aztec Gods of El Asadero?! Could there? Then she brings this plate of three giant tacos. One beef, one chicken, & one chorizo. All on house made corn tortillas with fresh cilantro & onions with a giant squeeze bottle of the special taco sauce. That did it. I was in a fog. I started to make out the sign… it read; Welcome to Mexican Heaven. We were passing tacos back & fourth, squirting the special taco sauce all over the tacos & in our pie holes it was so good I wanted to drink the stuff! LOL The beef taco was charred, tender & flavorful 2. DIE. FOR. The chicken was DOPE! Like chicken crack. It was pollo heroine. The chorizo was so tender & light with no greasy flavor whatsoever absolutely amazballs! The whole experience was like a Led Zeppelin song that punches you in the face! Then you jump up & shout«do it again PLEASE!» Then as if the EL Asadero Gods had not blessed us enough, when we received our bill it was less than $ 25! That did it. Hubby was in the fog too now. He also saw the sign… it read; Welcome to Mexican Heaven :))
