Dan is no longer in charge, and it shows! This company now goes by D.C. Awnings, and I cannot stress how awful and unprofessional their new owner Mike is. I paid my deposit of $ 4800 in June after being told by their sales rep that 8 – 10 weeks was the turnaround time, but that I would probably have my awning in 7. Mike himself emailed me and told me it would be a 9 week turnaround. I began calling them at week 7 — as I was asked to do by their sales associate, Jackie. At that time, I was told it would probably be about two more weeks — placing us in mid to late August. When mid to late August came, I called, and I was told by Mike that a couple of jobs had come up. When I told him that was unacceptable and that I had already paid, his comment was, «Oh… You paid?» I was then told I would have it the first week of September. That week came and went, with no installation and no awning. Time and time again, I left messages and was not called back. I emailed and was not emailed back. When I finally caught Mike, he would say, «Gosh, I’m sorry» in a way that really let you know he wasn’t. At about apology number 17, I told him to stop and explained that if he really were sorry, he would not be consistently repeating the behavior. I’m now in week 16. I was supposed to have my awning last week. This morning, I got a call from Jackie saying that the material looked weird(I asked for sumbrella navy and white stripe) and that they thought it would look better if I went with all blue. Guess what guys? If I wanted blue, that’s what I would have ordered 16 weeks ago — and I would have bought patio furniture with that color scheme in mind. The only thing consistent about Mike is his unprofessionalism. RUN to another company. Today, after two weeks of telling Mike he had one week to complete this job or I would seek a refund, I spoke to an attorney and filed a fraud claim with the bank to get the ball rolling. I could have gone with someone else and saved myself several huge headaches and been very happy in my backyard by now. Instead, I chose Dan’s Custom Awnings. DONOTUSETHEM. You will regret it. They have a great resume, but my guess is that was all Dan and had zero to do with new owner Mike. RUNAWAY! Updated: Here is a link to the BBB claim.
