I have eaten here several times with co-workers, the staff is very warm and polite. Being from the islands myself, this reminds me of the food that my family use to cook. Upon entering, the food is behind the counter like a cafeteria style setup. The food has always been fresh and hot, so no issues of the food sitting and becoming cold, because I have witnessed on several occasions the staff always replenishing the food! I got the Jerk Chicken which was very good! It was seasoned well, and had a nice kick to it. I also got the Curry chicken which was good, but not as good as the jerk chicken. More curry flavor was needed for the curry chicken, kind of tasted watered down. My thoughts about this place: I feel the cooks are holding back on the seasonings… Me being from the caribbean, I know how the food should taste! It’s like there trying to cater to there location instead of cooking the food how it should be… Making it «authentic» Don’t get me wrong, this is the best place in OKC, if you want good food from the islands. Like, I said. The food is good, but ADD more seasoning to the meat… I will definitily return!

Great home-made Caribbean feel and food for the OKC area! Been here a couple times. Today I ordered the Jerk Chicken, Curry Chicken, green beans, and spinach rice. The Jerk Chicken was seasoned very well and was fall off the bone good. The curry chicken wasnt as flavorful today and was a little dry. I’ve also tried the ox-tail on a previous visit and was very flavorful and something I would recommend! The place is set up cafeteria-style where you can choose what you’d like. The owner is always very nice and very welcoming. A couple co-workers that I went with today said the sweet tea was some of the best they’ve ever had. This is a must try and a very good lunch spot for anyone in the area. Don’t get thrown off by the outside appearance.

Had the curried goat, spanish rice, and mac n cheese. My wife had the jerk chicken, spanish rice, and sweet potatoes. All were phenomenal. Curried goat was insanely tender and fell off the bone. Jerk chicken had amazing flavor. Spanish rice was good. Mac and cheese was also amazing. It is baked with layers of cheese throughout. Very unique and wonderful flavors.

Where is the six star button when you need it? Hello, this place is THETRUTH. I first stumbled across this tasty establishment on where else, Unilocal.I wanted to pick up something quick to take home, and noticed the good reviews. Looking at their menu online, I saw so many dishes I knew would remind my husband of his beloved Panama(not the exact same, but close). Seriously, who would deny ox tail? I ordered the beef stew, jerk chicken, and kid’s size jerk chicken. Not only were the portions pretty good, bug everything was amazeballs! I hate when my guy sucks the meat off a bone — and then proceeds to suck on the bone — but that’s what happened. We’re not super close to this restaurant, but I have feeling we’ll be ordering from there in time to come.

First off let me say that this place has been there for me… I have been going there for the past 3 years Food= 5⁄5 I have tried 10+ items on the menu. Great option of a small plate or a large plate. My fav= jerk chicken, plantains, the lamb stew, beef stew, and the fish… you really can’t go wrong! Prices = very agreeable that I usually eat here several times a week Service= great and friendly … always clean Random facts= some of their food is halal! Ask the owner for more details! Closed on Sundays… lastly, at least 30 percent of their menu is on heart helthy choice option even great veggie options for sides.

Very clean and very nice staff. Food was good, if a bit bland. Nothing a little salt and hot sauce can’t fix up! Make sure to ask for cornbread. They put ginger and cinnamon in it I think! So good

First time and ordered jerk chicken, red beans and rice, and plantains. If you are looking to eat in the area, this place is a must. The chicken falls off the bones and the Caribbean favors are here, although maybe a little on the mild side. The plantains were awesome and the rice and beans good, but better with the Louisiana hot sauce on the table. This place is worth a drive across town, but expect a vary casual atmosphere. Styrofoam plates and plastic ware don’t deter from the menu. I’m excited to come back and try the curry, stew, and goat :)

Really great Jamaican food and priced really well! I had the jerk chicken, rice and beans, plantains, and sweet potatoes. To go along with all my delish foods I decided on ginger beer, it was so yummy too! Next time I want try the curried goat. The women who run the place are so sweet and helpful, we spoke about how they prepare oxtails and the other wonderful stuff they make. I can’t wait to go back.

Are here a while back… ordered the jerk chicken and it just didn’t taste anything close to ones have had in Jamaica, which I guess is kind of an unfair comparison. It was actually pretty pricey overall too. Haven’t been back since

When to this place for the first time. The prices are very comparable and the food is as good as people say. This place isn’t in the best of neighborhood but the food was worth it. I ordered the catfish and fries for $ 6.75. Definitely got my monies worth. The catfish was delicious and melts in your mouth. The family that owns and runs this place are very nice. If you want Caribbean food definitely check this place out. I would go back and check out the other food at this place.

We went there last Friday for lunch(02÷27÷15) in a beginning of a snow storm. It was a great time to go because everyone else was at work or heading home. We had a very tasty small plate of oxtail, w/black eyed peas and mac & cheese. I wish the tail had a little more spice, but then other people would consider it too spicy. Good black eyed peas. The mac & cheese was a little bland. Dish #2 was beef stew with sweet potato’s and something else. My friend liked it very much. We’ll both be back. This is some great slow cooked goodness.

This is my favorite Caribbean restaurant in the south. The food is excellent(no exaggeration) and the owner is always so pleasant.

4.5 stars. Service was super friendly and helpful. The ox-tail was well seasoned and very tender. The jerk chicken was a tad oily, but it had a nice spice profile. Sweet potatoes and green beans balanced out the combo plate nicely. Did not expect to find Caribbean food in Oklahoma. I’m sure glad I stopped in for a bite.

This is a great little spot for Caribbean food in Oklahoma City. I am not sure if there are others that are specifically Caribbean. The owner Sharon is a very nice lady and the food is reasonably priced. The hours of operation aren’t the most convenient, as they do close by 6:30pm Mon-Saturday, during the Fall & Winter months. Apr-Sep they are open until 7:30pm. This is probably a good thing as it sits close to the heart of the ghetto. It is on MLK after all, but 2 – 3 blocks north of NE23rd street on the west side of the road. Meats: I have come out here on a couple of occasions, The food is delicious. I had 4 different meat items and from best to worst: Oxtail, Lab stew, chicken curry and Jerk chicken. Their oxtail is mouth savoring. The lamb stew has a lot of bones, but its authentic and awesome. The curry chicken is pretty good, but I prefer indian curry chicken, call me bias. Their jerk chicken is not spicy at all and since it sits in fluids, it is moist but non-jerk flavored? Snacks: They do have meat pies which I really like. It is minced meat seasoned in a filo dough wrap and fried. The cornbread is better than any cornbread I have had. Vegetables: Spinach rice is pretty good and makes you feel healthy with the spinach in it. Best sweet potatoes I have ever had Green beans are so good and without the bacon that others use. I didn’t try the baked mac & cheese or the cabbage, but those are options as well. When they do have plantains. those absolutely rock. Drinks: Sorrell is a drink from the sorrell flower which is quite refreshing but a little too sweet. Definitely worth trying. Ginger beer has an interesting taste, although it obviously tastes very gingery. I have had them cater at my work several times and its usually a hit.

I’ve passed by this restaurant so many times but have never noticed it. The building doesn’t stand out and blends in with the rest of MLK Ave. The inside of the restaurant was fairly clean and kept in nice condition. The way it works is, you get in line and there is a buffet style table in front of you. You let the nice lady know which platter you want and she’ll scoop it onto a plate or a to go box. They have sodas available in cans and bottles. I got a can of coke and it was 85 cents. My total was $ 9 plus some change to give you an idea on prices. The food was room temperature when I got it. The curry chicken was lacking flavors — kinda bland. I tried my friend’s jerk chicken and that tasted much better. It was hot and I could taste the herbs and spices. The baked mac n cheese was alright. I didn’t get any cornbread nor was I offered any with my platter. Not sure if it’s something you have to ask for? Most people came in and got take out. Employees are very quick at getting you through the line so I can see myself coming back for lunch sometime since it’s not too far of a drive from my workplace.

WTB a 3.5 review, pls. Thanks. So yeah, I’d give it a 3.5 rather than a 3, but, ya know. I like that the environment is so relaxed and cozy. There are only a few tables, but when I went there was plenty of room. The service was nice. The woman who gave me my food was friendly, and she reminded me of Miss Claudette(Orange is the New Black). Curry chicken 3⁄5: It was good and the meat(on the bone) was tender, but I think the flavor was a little bit too subtle. Macaroni and cheese(baked) 3⁄5: It tasted like homemade macaroni and cheese you’d eat at a family reunion or cook out, which is good, but not amazing. Cabbage 4⁄5: It LOOKS like cole slaw, but it’s not sweet and tastes like seasoned cabbage, instead. Cornbread 3⁄5: Cornbread comes with the platters. It’s soft and crumbly and has a very subtle sweet taste to it. Sorrel 5⁄5: A Hibiscus tea drink that’s very tasty. I just wish you got more for the $ 2ish that it costs. Overall, this is a good place to eat at and I might find myself there to try some other things when I’m over on that side of town again.

Really good food and great service. I think Spencer G. is the only one with issues with this spot. I highly recommend the stewed beef and rice & peas, the yam and green beans are tasty too, and omg the cornbread… omg…lol, so good. Hands down the BEST food in its category in the city. A must try! I would love to see them carry the Grace juices but aside that A-1.

This place is AMAZING! I usually get the jerk chicken, but I’ve had it all and its delicious. She usually has some type of special, so ask what they have for the day! If you go on friday she serves callaloo, which is the best concoction I’ve ever had. I crave that delicious spinach/okra mash. If you are a special customer she will give you a slice of cornbread, and I must suggest trying the tropical tea. I can’t say anything bad about this place. A hidden gem in the middle of nowhere practically.

Very good place, I usually get the jerk chicken with cabbage and macaroni and cheese(sometimes referred to as mac pie), this place is very authentic in it’s taste, if you are looking for authentic Jamaican/Caribbean dishes this is the place to go! The restaurant itself is a little small but it has all the necessities that you would expect of a restaurant(proper seating, restrooms, etc). The place is not a traditional sit down per say, it does not have waiters or waitresses, you go up to the counter, order your food and sit down. The good news of that, you don’t have to worry about tips for waiters or waitresses, In regards to the Jerk chicken I personally think the spice is mild, I have been to other Caribbean places in the US that were much more spicy, so if you have shy’d away from Jamaican places before in the past because of this, give Carican a try! You might be surprised! :)
