Disappointed in many changes at this establishment. 1.) They no longer accept 5 star reward cards and they never text any members letting them know that they were discontinuing that program and to come in to redeem their points with them. I had 37 points and was waiting to reach 40 points to redeem for two free entries! Keep in mind they would give you one point for every $ 10! So I spent a lot of money here and never redeemed anything. 2.) They changed their springs rolls. They used to make them in house and the order would come with 4 decent sized rolls, now they come with 4 egg rolls and the price remains the same at $ 6.95 !! Not worth it in my opinion! They used to have mushroom inside and they used to taste good, not anymore! They now taste frozen and re-heated! 3.) I like their pad Thai but they must have changed chefs because I used to LOVE their pad Thai! Don’t get me wrong it still taste good, but before it was amazing! I don’t know what happened there it just tastes a little off now. Chips and salsa are good, peanut sauce is good but they charge extra. 4.) They don’t really have any deserts, bummer! 5.) They still sell canned soda instead of soda fountain with refills.

Great fusion burrito with mock duck, veggies & yellow curry in a spinach whole wheat tortilla! I only wish the Spanish rice was vegetarian! Also had the tofu taco which was good, the tortilla for the taco was outstanding! Waiter was very friendly and aware of our needs, definitely going back for more!

I was really hoping his place was going to be good. My dish wasn’t that great. I had a Memela and I made the mistake of adding mole. The Mole was waaaaay too watery. Maybe I’ll be back and give this place another try without the mole. The lady that helped us was nice so I decided to give it an extra star for the service.

We were driving around the area and saw this little place that had a very interesting name«Memelas Tacos+Thai+Rock» we were very interested in what they had to offer, despite the reviews. The atmosphere was pleasant and the workers were nice. The chips and salsa were good and for the appetizer we ordered the Thai Platter(which came with a variety of Thai finger foods) which out of all the finger foods the only thing that was delicious on the Thai Platter was the Cream Cheese Wantons! After, I ordered the Adabada Burrito that the waiter recommended and my girlfriend ordered the Chicken Satay Memela. The burrito was somewhat horrible and the Memela was ok. Everything all together plus a beer and sparkling water ended up being $ 39. I am truly sorry but this place did not have good Thai or Mexican food. Will not come again unless it’s for the Wantons.

Disclaimers: we got here as they were opening up on a Saturday late morning. The décor is off. I fell it doesn’t match the cuisine. Framed«album covers» on the wall of varying music styles and eras. A goodwill couch in the back corner and a middle eastern themed vignette in the entry. The food: I had the spicy noodle at a #6 spiciness. They tasted like generic spicy noodles and I found all the spiciness at the bottom. My wife ordered the veggie burrito that was stir fry vegetables with refried beans, Mexican rice, and guacamole. The bites that were rice and beans with the stir fry veggies was ok. It’s when you took a bite with guacamole that things went wrong. Overall, the food and the price wasn’t bad. If your into ambience, this isn’t the place for you. While Thai-Mexican fusion sounds interesting we can not say for sure that it works. There are more options on the menu to try out, but we’ll leave that to someone else to try out.

Memela’s is a wonderful surprise in the city of Chula Vista California. This restaurant is filled with tacos, Thai food, and rock ‘n’ roll. My husband found this restaurant on a trip with my son and we went to revisit the restaurant because he said it was so good. When I went in and saw all the interior filled with all of these rock ‘n’ roll legend albums, pictures and videos playing on tv screens, I was quite excited — I loved the atmosphere. Looking at the menu if you’re not familiar with Mexican or Thai food it takes you a little while to get through it. However, it is worth the wait. If you’re not familiar with what a Memela is, it is this wonderful corn masa flattened and grilled then topped with various toppings and cheeses it’s excellent. There were too many on the menu to try so will have to keep going back for some more. We also tried to have their curries one yellow curry with shrimp and the other was a green chicken curry. I must say, and I have tried a lot, this curry was perhaps the best I have ever eaten. The spice and heat level can be adjusted to your taste, I like it hot, but the flavor was amazing. I would travel to 160 miles again for the curry. The best part about this restaurant is the fact that the owners have made this a family business, which is inviting, filled with homemade specialties, and fresh ingredients. If you find yourself way down in San Diego County towards Chula Vista this trip would be worth it as it’s literally just off the 805 at the Bonita Road exit.

Love this place! Whenever I come I order the Spring Rolls(4) which come with a plum sauce, although I do ask for peanut sauce(additional charge) on the side. both sauces are really good! The rolls are always piping hot so you do have to wait a minute or two. They’re extra crunchy !! Delicious! For the main entrée I always order the Pad Thai with chicken and spicy level from 1 – 10 I order mine a 7. They don’t skimp out on noodles or chicken at all! One plate can be shared between two people unless you like left overs, I DO! It comes with peanut crumbs and lime wedges on the plate which you could always ask for more of either at no additional charge. The lime really gives it that extra kick! I love this place! I come here about 1 – 2 a month for the pad Thai! Only down side is that they only offer refills on lemonade or Arnold Palmer, no soft drinks, they only sell sod cans. I would take half a star away for that but Unilocal only doesn’t do half starts and their pad Thai deserves that star in my opinion! Another plus is that they are now doing the 5star program where you earn points for every dollars you spend. You can redeem those points for appetizers, soft drinks, or full entrees! Def. a plus!

This restaurant was more than I expected! My boyfriend was in the mood for Mexican food and I was in the mood for Thai food. This was the perfect place to satisfy both of our cravings. The Thai rice had just the right amount of soy sauce and it reminded me of Benihana’s fried rice. Amazing. The environment was very relaxed. I loved the interior design, very chill. I’m trilled to say I’ve found great spot to enjoy and I will be coming back.

Poor customer service. Took our order and didn’t see server till our check arrived. Ordered the New York steak burrito without beans and it was pretty much a rice burrito. Don’t mind spending $ 10 on a burrito but at least put some meat in there Sub-par taste, poor service = don’t waste $ here

Finally had the chance to stop by Memelas and I’m glad I did! Small family owned bistro in Bonita close to the mall and cemetery. I ordered the pad Thai with tofu($ 9.95) and papaya salad($ 7.95). The absolute best papaya salad I’ve ever had was on the Big Island at the Farmers Market on Hilo side. Made to order right in front of me… the flavors were spot on! Memelas papaya salad is darn close and I will def be back for it! The pad Thai was a bit wet and had a little sauce with it. This isn’t how I usually have my pad Thai BUT it was very delicious! I will def order the pad Thai again! My next visit I will have to try true satay tacos with peanut sauce! Give them a try! Service is great!!!

Pad Thai was extra saucy/watery, but still very flavorful. We tried a fusion memela, which was interesting. If you’re not into mushy and chewy food, I wouldn’t recommend it. The best thing we tried was the thai tacos! Other than that, the beef taco was average. I like the concept of thai and Mexican fusion. But, the quality of food is a bit lacking. I would return to try the pad Thai and Thai tacos again, but would probably stay away from the thai Memela.

Was down in the area for a concert at the Sleep Walk Amphitheatre. This place was in walking distance to my hotel so we decided to check it out. There was a large party that night that took over the restaurant but we were able to sit at the counter to eat. It was my first time in a thai/mexican fusion place but I went with my standby thai dish of beef pad see ew. The portions are huge and they bring out tortilla chips with 4 types of dipping sauces/salsa. The food is made fresh in front of you, via a huge window between the counter and the kitchen. The taste was just alright for me, far from my favorite, but not bad considering it was walking distance and not too expensive for the portion sizes. The staff were very attentive and friendly. Looked like a family run business and they seemed to know the people at the party on a personal level. I would probably not return here to eat if I was in the area, but would maybe give it another shot because the staff was so nice and friendly.

A small, family owned restaurant located in Bonita Rd in Chula Vista. It’s food is mainly a fusion of Mex-Thai. Price is a bit on the high end considering that portions are small. I ordered the papaya salad($ 7.95) and the hubs ordered the beef tom yum noodle($ 10.95). Food is not outstanding, a bit blah on the presentation, and although the server was friendly, the service was very slow. There were only 3 tables with customers and it took them more than 25 min for our orders to come in. Probably because this is a dead hour? I give the ambience a 3 star because of the liveliness of the place even at 2:30 in the afternoon. Their version of tom yum noodle soup closely resembles a cup of noodle soup with added slices of beef, broccoli, and carrots. No hint of tartness, lemon grass, kaffir lime leaf nor gallangang. Fusion? I don’t think so!

Our first time here. We didn’t know what to expect. Waited less than 10 mins to be seated during their dinner rush hour, nice décor, very clean, helpful staff, drinks served quickly, food took around 20 mins to come out, but this was ok because we ordered chips and guacamole. For dinner we ordered Yellow Curry with Shrimp at a 2, Pad Thai Noodles at a 5, two chicken satay tacos and one Shrimp taco. Everything was perfect! I think I like this idea of Thai Mexican Fusion– so delicious, prices were pretty reasonable. Our server was Jesus was very attentive, and owner, Raul Sanchez, was also a great help and super informative. They do not offer Military discounts but they do have a rewards program that they participate in, ask about it when you get there– it’s easy to sign up. We will be back! Thanks for the great experience.

I had always pass this place when Im in the Bonita area. When I decided to try it out I went on a slow day(weekdays maybe around 2−4pm). It turns out it was a Thai and Mexican fusion joint. I wasn’t sure what to get so I asked the waitress. She said a popular order was the Satay burrito. The burrito was delicious but I think I like my Mexican and Thai food separate. In this place you could order them separate, but then there’s no point in going to a fusion restaurant right? If you ever want to try what a Mexican and Thai fusion would taste like this place is for you. For me it was a little pricey and I didn’t realize it was a sit down restaurant. Even though I didnt try it I recommend: the memelas

Talk about a fun concept! Mexican and Thai fusion? Pad Thai burritos? Thai tortas? Memelas with shrimp? Unfortunately, concept is all it should be. I had the Pad Thai burrito with a spinach wrap and my hubby had the Shrimp memela. Think of a flatbread made of corn and then salsa, beans and shrimp ladled on top. That was it… for 10 bucks that left him hungry, hubster wasn’t too fond. Onto my Pad Thai concoction – I enjoyed mine much more than he liked his, but not by much. If you’ve read my other reviews on Thai places, I always get Pad Thai at new Thai ventures. While the noodles were flavorful and the mock duck wasn’t too chewy, that was the extent of the burrito. The service was lovely and the place was kid friendly, but I can’t justify coming back here for the food or the prices.

Found this place on Unilocal,it was a nice surprise to find out they play Rock music! We had curries(yellow and green) and our friends ordered Pad See Ew noodles and a Sate Burrito. The curries were very nice and spicey, flavourfull, but a tange too sweet to our taste. It was a shame, because the flavoring was really good. Overal good place and service. 4 stars, but please, less sweetening of the curries!

This hybrid Mexican and Thai eatery is quite interesting to say the least with their separate cuisine and fusion as well. I my visit, I stuck with the Thai food and ordered the flat spicy noodles with chicken and beef and a iced tea. The noodles were very good and the spicy sauce was tasty. I not into very hot food that much, so I asked for a level two, but it felt hotter than that. It came with an average amount of beef and chicken with some well prepared vegetables( ). The chicken was very good and was tender and tasted quite good( ), but the beef was not only a little tough and dry, but it was under seasoned as well( ). I should just doubled up on the chicken. Good noodles nevertheless. The young lady who served me was nice and she gave me the scoop on the place. I am curious about their Mexican fare, so I will need to return to try some. I hear they make their own tortillas, so those will be a must. 3.5 Stars.
