Took my granddaughters strawberry picking up at Patterson’s! Don’t really know who had the most fun… me or them! I believe they ate as many as they picked! Great fun! Lots of memories. We got home and I capped the strawberries with a little sugar. Later that evening, I let them make their own Strawberry Shortcakes! They had lots of laughs with the RediWhip! They won’t never forget that day!

I had a great time on my first visit with the school children to Patterson Farm. The staff members were very kind and patient with the children. We watched a movie, fed the animals and were able to enjoy the new baby piglets! Next up was a hay ride(no hay on this ride), lunch, playtime in the playground area, and then the kids were headed back to school. In the store, I purchased kettle cooked sweet potato chips(had to). They were sort of blah. I won’t go for these again. I also picked up some strawberry butter, hot & spicey seasoning, and some Jalapeño gourmet chile pepper sauce that was for sale from another local farm. It felt good to help the farmers out today!

After lunch we headed out for some strawberry picking and to do that there’s only one stop in the area, and that’s Patterson Farm. As it turns out, they have blackberries, too, but those won’t be ripe for another month or so, and they’ll have tomatoes a bit later in the season as well, but right now it’s strawberry season. So we picked up our boxes and headed out to the fields. A short while later and we had two-and-a-half gallons of strawberries ready for washing. After we got home, cleaned, cut and packed them we ended up with 14 bags of sliced and diced strawberries, ready for the eating. Mmm, mmm. But before we could do that, we cleaned up and had some fresh treats — I had a milkshake made with fresh strawberries(tasty, but they could have done a better job of mixing) and my wife had a strawberry shortcake, again made with fresh strawberries(better). Then we went to the petting zoo, which was much fun. The goats and pigs were quite entertaning, and oddly enough they loved to eat strawberries. Then we visited the play area as well before heading on home to do our cleaning. All in all an enjoyable afternoon. Highly recommended if you’re in the area. And if you don’t like to pick them yourself, they have already picked ready for you, and you can still enjoy the other stuff too.
