Really good Hershey’s Ice Cream with many flavors to choose from. Prices are pretty good compared to other ice cream places.

When it’s summer, it’s time to visit Bat Cave and Chimney Rock. And no visit to Chimney Rock is complete without going to The Rocking Leprechaun. They specialize in Hershey’s Ice Cream – something like 85 flavors of it. No ice cream rivals the great taste of Hershey’s ice cream except maybe Häagan-Dazs, so I wonder why it isn’t more available in stores. Over the years, flavors that I have appreciated are their rum raisin, dutch chocolate almond, black cherry, and anything with chocolate. I think they had a German chocolate one I liked. They offer several sizes of scoops, waffle and traditional cones. The only signage outside the store is HERSHEY’S ICECREAM, so it’s hard to miss. There are tables outside, but if it’s hot, there are tables inside, too. There is a trail by the side of the building that leads down to the river, where you can sit on a rock and eat your ice cream to stay cool, or walk along the river trail. They accept cash only, but they have an ATM inside. No rest room. I’m not certain of their business hours, but they don’t open until 11 a.m. Who’d eat ice cream for breakfast but me, anyways?
