Loved this place until I experienced very poor customer service. Asked to speak to Evelyn who was probably in the back sifting flour acting like she couldn’t stop to answer a few important questions I had. One my daughters party was like three days away and I wanted some comfort on my purchase seeing I’ve got quoted three different prices and the receptionist had nooooooo clue what she was talking about. Rubbed me the wrong way I thought she could’ve been a lil bit more professional and spoke to me. I felt like canceling but I’ve humbled my self and thanked my daughter for my growth smh. I feel like she’s a feeling herself a lil to much to be mistreating paying customers.

Who knew it would be so tough to find a cupcake bakery open on a Tuesday? We needed some cupcakes for my son’s birthday and I tried a couple of closer bakeries, but they were closed on Tuesday. I called Evelyn’s before driving over to make sure they were open. The young lady on the phone was friendly and helpful and assured me they had a good selection of gourmet cupcakes. Parking was a bit challenging, but we found a spot on the street and headed inside to make our selections. We bought a half dozen and thought they were all tasty. I was hoping for a cream cheese frosting on the red velvet but it was regular buttercream on the top(a secret injection of cream cheese frosting inside saved the day). Tasty, moist, and beautiful.

Private message I got from Ernie S, who I am assuming is either an employee or an owner, who lacks customer service skills. Instead of trying to fix the problem he harasses his customers. So rude and unprofessional, another reason to not come here. «Sorry for your problem, but seriously, … you couldn’t find a cake with the „lack of instructions“ you gave. „Make it look good“ is not an instruction as to what one desires in decoration and such. Sounds to me as though ANY bakery you or your parents found would not measure up to your delicate palate of taste. And yes, … one needs to pay for samples of cake. Stay in Shrewsbury, … eat their cake, have many children, and get fat. Talk about „Bride-zilla’s“, … you take the cake!» I am sorely disappointed in this bakery! My parents are locals of Chicopee and we were looking for a cake for my wedding. I came in inquiring about cakes and they said that if I wanted to try something, I would need to order it. I was having a bridal shower the following week so I ordered a cake. A PLAIN, YELLOWCAKE cost OVER $ 60!!! It was supposed to have buttercream frosting and for that price, I expected perfection. For the design, I said make it look good. You know what I got? A ½ sheet cake with two layers that was yellow, hard, and some sort of sugar frosting that overpowered the taste and flavor of the actual cake. The design was something I can get from Super Stop and Shop a ½ mile way, some pink roses and green vines around the edges. Super basic, super expensive, and honestly crap. I would never go back there again! I should have known not to order anything from a place that is too ashamed to display their products for people to buy without orders.

Does this bakery make beautiful cakes? Absolutely! The one you order? Nope! The person that took my order not only overcharged me(which the manager did refund the overage) but also made me the wrong cake. The worst part was that they forced me to pick up my cake a day early due to the girl falsely telling me I could pick it up on a Sunday, so I was forced to leave with a cake I did not want and paid full price for. Then the manager told me he would talk to the owner and get back to me and never did. Any good sensible business owner would have fixed the situation at the very least. Very disappointed and will not be getting another cake from this bakery.

Went here to get cupcakes for my dads 60th bday. They were a hit. He loved that they had the domino pieces on top. Thanks Evelyn! I will always stop by every time I’m in town.

I can honestly not utter one bad word against Evelyn’s Bakery. They have come through for me on various times. I first encountered Evelyn’s when I was cold calling many local bakeries for donations when we were having a bake sale at the school I work at a couple years ago. Not only did they donate cupcakes and cake push pops, but they even delivered the stuff for free, the only bakery to do so. One time I stopped in after they had just closed(I didn’t notice the close time, totally my fault) but she, Evelyn herself, let me in and let me buy cupcakes for my class I was bringing in the following day. I was super grateful. Fast forward to last year. My sister, also my MOH when I got married, was planning my bridal shower and knew how much I loved Evelyn’s. She got my cake for the shower from here. It was beautiful, butter flavored with a lingerie set on it, very tasteful, verrrrry delicious. After I got married I moved to the other side of Springfield, so I don’t get to stop in as much as I would like anymore but I still find time to go once in a while and get a cupcake or two. Just yesterday I stopped in and had a cookies and cream cupcake. Amazing. I especially like how they team up with other local businesses to do cross promotions(I get my hair done at Latina & Co, and a few months ago they did a promotional thing together.) All I’m all, I really enjoy this delicious bakery, I tell all my friends how amazing they are, and I hope they stay for a looooooong time!

Honestly, I feel terrible giving any local small biz a bad review but well, I found my experience pretty disappointing and I would hope it acts as a call to action for improved business practices and customer experience and not deter people from shopping locally. I will always say«please support local biz.» I ordered over the phone a few days in advance and was assisted by who I can only assume was Evelyn. She was polite and courteous on the phone. A few days later I walked in to pick up my baked goods and the front of the house in this shop was small but the two guys at the counter barely acknowledged me. I said I’m there to pick up my order and they paused a tv show they were watching and left to go in the back without so much as uttering a word and I immediately felt like I was interrupting their tv time. Bad customer experience off the bat but I’m not so stuck up that I care much about it at this point. After a while one of them comes out with my order and the box is two times too big for the cake I ordered. He explains they are out of small boxes so he taped the cardboard«plate» under the cake to the box. I didn’t say anything but I was thinking it was odd the self described«New England’s Finest Cakery» didn’t have small cake boxes. Finally I paid and went on with it. It only took me 5 minutes to get to my destination and I caught all greens amazingly so there was no stop and go. Regardless when I arrived the cake had collapsed. Sure enough the taped bottom did keep the cardboard in place but the top cake layer separated from the bottom. I’m fair though, maybe it was my fault, it’s hard to say at this point. So anyway, we reposition it best we can and go about our evening. After a little dinner we decide to break into this cake. You know, I like a moist cake much as anyone but this thing was straight up wet. It was so moist it was clear that it came apart in transit because it was just was so dense with moisture it was slip sliding away. The frosting was pretty good and all but the cake wasn’t edible. And I’m not a picky eater at all it was just a bad, wet, texture that I could only describe as wet bread. Well that’s my tale for this bakery. I do hope something can be learned here about good customer experience. I ended up going to Big Y later for a rescue sheet cake that was actually not bad. But it broke my heart to do it.
