Mateo & Co Salon

I feel very mixed about Mateo & Co. It’s changed a lot over the last couple years and I don’t know that I like the difference. Mateo was a charmer and he’s no longer there, I used to go to Jackie and she’s moved to another salon. Initially, when Jackie first left for a variety of reasons I wanted to stay at this location for services. I set up a haircut with someone new (whose name sadly, I don’t remember).
Before she started cutting, I explained to this particular woman that my hair can be a difficult cut, it’s extremely thin but there is tons of it, and it wants to curl as you work although when I show up, its generally straight from blowing it out.
She said it was no problem and got to work, I asked her to take off just an inch. The first time with any new person, I have them do a little, and if it’s good I come back in 6 weeks and do the more substancial cut. This leaves me room to get it corrected if it turns into a disaster.
Well, this one headed that direction. I could tell she was overwhelmed, as what she had indicated would be easy took longer and longer, got shorter and shorter as she tried to reign in unruly hair. When she was done it was tolerable but not good. It didn’t lay as well as I’d become accustomed to with Jackie’s cuts. Daily styling was more of a chore.
They’ve stacked in substancially more chairs, and its feeling crowded in there instead of the wonderful relaxed vibe I loved at Mateo. I overheard the new owner talking about wanting to add a nail salon– I don’t want to smell polish for 3 hours while my highlights get done.
A friend noted being unhappy with the styling from someone else at the same place around the same time.
I ended up finding Jackie again. Hopefully Mateo will recover some of what made it so charming before, relaxed, friendly, and with a guaranteed beautiful cut.
More isn’t always better.

Natalie saved my brows!!! Over the year I have been trying to find someone as amazing as her and I am so happy I did because my brows most definitely needed a lot of work! Before I came to her my brows were completely uneven and different sizes. One session later and she got my brows looking sized and shaped perfectly for my face! I would trust her with anyone and her welcoming and warming personality makes the visit that much better! :)

I am very particular about my eyebrows and always want them a certain way and have been searching all of Chico for someone that could listen to my wants and execute them. Natalie is that person and beyond. When I first walked in I automatically felt comfortable and we just started chatting away like we already knew each other. She then listened to how I like my eyebrows and took her time actually making sure I got exactly what I wanted. My eyebrows look like artwork as there is not a single hair out of place and the shape frames my face perfectly! I could not be happier and I have to say that Natalie is the best esthetician around. Like I told her when I left she definitely has a returning customer :)
