Such a great part of chico living… the community gathers and looks at the universe. Stunning views and knowledgeable and friendly volunteers.

Went here for the first time 2 weeks ago. Went again last week. I know next to nothing about astronomy but was educated by the people there and was able to see Saturn’s rings and Venus. Family friendly.

I live within 10 miles of three observatories but I love this one the best. They have the first outdoor planetarium I have ever seen. The lowered seating pit seats over 40 visitors comfortably with seating for disabled persons as well. Observatory staff give tours of the constellations including associated mythology, general science, and astronomical history. The planetarium also includes a handheld multimedia presentation using state-of-the-art wireless technology. These mini TVs have live feed from the telescopes incorporated with a slide show feature,. AND it is all FREE and staffed by volunteers. it is worth the drive if you are in the area. We were able to see Saturn, the moon and some amazing galaxies. If you know about telescopes they have two 14″ Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes. The two telescopes have their own«go to» computer system. Since I was here last year, they got also acquired a solar telescope. It doesn’t look like much at first, but this place is amazing!
