I’m not surprised this place closed, it was just such a weird location for food. My experience was a sausage, egg and cheese waffle(wafel?) sandwich one day out of pure curiosity on my walk to work. It was solid and a fun concept. But the place was deserted and I had no idea how they ever stayed open. Clearly they had some fans… but you need the foot traffic too.

You can’t go wrong with the chicken and waffles, just thepi prefect combination of sweet and savory and spice… to bad this is now closed.

This place needs to reevaluate itself. The waffles reminded me of when I was 10 and would eat Lego waffles after the box had been opened in the freezer and was covered in ice crispies, then poorly heated and drenched in maple syrup. I ordered the Belgian waffle and it had that stale taste of not being fresh combined with a mushiness of not being cooked correctly. It was just wrong on so many fronts. To make up for that they cover it in your topping of choice and a crap ton of sugar. Let me tell you, sugar when devoid of a flavorful pairing is just not good. I might as well just have eaten two spoonfuls of sugar at home. The guy at the front desk was really nice but nothing can save these waffles.

I love this odd little gem! If you are looking for something tasty and a little different from everything else, Wafel is the place. I always get the Elvis… a folded waffle with peanut butter, honey, thick slices of bacon, and sliced bananas! It is so delicious that I always want more when it’s done! My boyfriend always gets the brisket waffle, he loves it! Everything is good here, even the dessert pieces are super tempting. The french fries as a side are always hot and fresh! I literally can’t complain about any of the food, it’s all good. The only con isn’t even a bad thing for the customer, it’s bad for the store owner. The store could easily be missed, unfortunately. I find it to be in a bad location– not much foot traffic goes by this awkwardly placed restaurant. Perhaps if they relocated to an area on Clinton closer to where a lot of people are actively looking for food, they may do better. People tend to go to New Line Tavern and don’t see anything past that! But go here. It’s unique and it’s good. If nothing else, just go to get the Elvis :)

Breakfast options in the loop are minimal on an early Sunday morning. With so many residential buildings going up, you’d expect there would be more choices open. Do I want Ronny’s again? Nah too heavy. How about dunkin? Too microwavey. I wanted something fresh but light. Seamless didn’t give much options so onto G-maps to look up breakfast. Looking for the closest place to the office and I find Wafel. Sounds good and its right across the bridge. Would be nice to have some waffles for breakfast. Its a nice looking shop. Huge inside and friendly staff. I order the green&white and a chocolate liege. The green&white filling was great, the waffle was not so great. No fault on Wafel since it was to go. It steamed itself in the bag and having spinach in there didn’t help either to keep the waffle from getting soft and droopy. It did feel crisp when I got it though. It probably would’ve been great if I had ate it on the spot. As for the chocolate liege, it was not what I was expecting. It was crunchy on the outside and crisp not soft on the inside. Not like any liege I’ve had. It was also missing the sugar pearls, so no crunch from that. The spots where the chocolate hit the iron were the crunchiest and somewhat burnt with the way the liege was overcooked. Maybe next time I’ll go for the vanilla. Maybe this is how the Wafel owners remember their experience when they were in Belgium. I’ve never been but I’m use to the liege waffles that you get from the Waffle Cabins on the Vermont ski slopes and Wafel&Dinges back home. This is a good place for breakfast. Would love to try their other options like the chicken waffle when I come back to Chicago.

I was visiting Chicago from California and saw this place on Unilocal, thought I’d give it a try since back home we have a similar place called Bruxie which I LOVE! Unfortunately, this place was not comparable to Bruxie. I felt like my waffle sandwich(I got the one with egg whites, spinach and feta) was cold and didn’t have much flavor. I also got the sweet potato tots which were WAY too sweet, almost felt like they added sugar or something?! The ambiance was casual, with no music or noise or anything. I guess it’s a cool place to study but it was odly quiet… Overall, it was decent but I don’t think I’ll be back.

Stopped by this place in the early morning right when they opened and was not disappointed. I had the chicken and waffle sandwich and it was delicious. I just wished the waffle was a little more crispy on the outside. It was my first time here and the guy working was really helpful.

Savory waffles are the bestttt. Pretty decent — met our expectations :) Split the fried chicken waffles, turkey club waffle and strawberry cheesecake waffle, sweet potato tots and the fries with friends. Simple, cheap, quick and tasty.

This was a pretty good place for breakfast/brunch. We ordered a couple of sandwiches and waffles — the turtle waffle was ok and the banana cream waffle was pretty good. The shrimp po boi was good as well. Service was really quick.

Tasty breakfast! Happened upon here on my way to the megabus stop with friends and we got a few waffles to try. The green and white(egg whites and spinach) was really good, I think it comes with feta and we gone one with and one without. There was the ham, egg, and cheddar, which was also good but the green and white was our favorite savory– even went back for seconds! I got the Nutella banana sweet waffle, and asked to substitute caramelized banana for a fresh banana. So tasty! Could’ve had like 5! Definitely an interesting breakfast idea– worth checking out!

If I ever went back, I would go sweet rather than savory. I had the much-acclaimed fried chicken waffle and found it unbalanced — it needed to either not be sweet at all or omit the more savory parts. That said, all the component parts were good, and the waffle itself was delicious. The boy liked the beef one quite a lot, although it wasn’t my thing.

An oddball concept based, I’m told, on a trip the owners took to Belgium. Everything comes wrapped in a waffle. I wonder what a true Belgian would think of the food. The waffles are rubbery and small. The fillings are nice. The cinnamon waffle was both chewy and bready. The cinnamon tasted artificial. I am not sure how they pulled off the particular culinary awfulness of it It is a novelty place and not worth a visit. Pass on by and save your pennies for a trip to get a real Belgium waffle.

Waffle sandwiches with great taste on the near west-side. It’s a friendly joint frequented mostly by to-go locals, but there’s comfortable seating if you decide to eat it there. I would not drive across town for this, but it’s handy if you passed out in the neighborhood.

The waffle pizza is amazing, as is the fried chicken. It sounds weird, but the flavors are awesome and it’s a new and cool idea. The place itself is clean and has plenty of seating. It’s an easy, quick meal that you will love.

Delicious! A great combination of savory and sweet all in one. Ordered the Sausage and Egg full sandwich. I cherished every bite. The ingredients were fresh and hot of the grill. The place was super cute and clean. Staff was helpful and friendly. Overall, an awesome place to start the day off right!

Wafel is a fun little place to visit for breakfast or lunch. The restaurant was clean and inviting. It has a simple, not overstated store front that was very inviting. The two employees we interacted with were very friendly and very clean. I tried the fried chicken waffle and my wife had the ham and eggs waffle. Both were very tasty, served hot, and and filled with fresh ingredients. The chicken was fried beautifully and the waffle was golden brown. We also split a side of sweet potato tots. I have to say these were some of the best sweet potato tots I’ve had in town. Maybe they just hit the spot today but they were sweet with a nice touch of salty. I ate them plain without ketchup, mustard or anything else. Everyone else in the restaurant appeared happy and enjoying their meals. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try.

Delish! Delish! Came here the Sunday after Valentine’s Day because I didn’t want to go to a fancy brunch spot that I would have to wait. To my surprise it was just one couple here eating which was great! Can you say in and out action? This was my first time coming and it will certainly not be the last. I always ask the server what they recommend and he was right on point. I had the scramble eggs, bacon and cheese waffle, which I split with my partner and a decaffeinated caramel and vanilla latte. Ot was so yummy and cheesy that it gushed from my mouth with every bite. Our breakfast waffle sandwich was so yummy we decided to then order the strawberry shortcake waffle. It was delicious and gushed fresh strawberries, creams cheese and my favorite dessert topping whipped cream. Definitely a must try! And the price is so right! Waffle sandwiches that we ordered were all under $ 7.

Had a Groupon and came here with hubby on a Saturday morning. Being from out of town, I am unfamiliar with the area, but it was quite easy to train to, although the area seemed very odd and vacant. Ordered the strawberry cheescake thin waffle and hubby ordered the turtle liege waffle. The strawberry cheesecake one was soooo awesome. The thin waffle was perfectly cooked, crispy and fluffy on the inside, with creamy whipped cream or something and strawberries. The liege waffles however, are not good. They almost taste stale and were way too hard. The toppings were attractive(caramel and pecans) but do NOT go with the liege waffles here. Also ordered the sweet potato tots and they were perfectly cooked, i’d order them again. Ordered a caramel machiatto and it was pretty decent, better than Starbucks(smoother). Will be returning next time we’re in town — too bad, we didn’t have enough room to try the Chicken/savoury ones. Overall a 4 for the awesome thin waffle and decent tots/coffee, losing one star for the crappy liege waffle and lacklustre décor/environment.
