My girlfriend gets me the tofu fa from this place every time she goes home to Chicago, and it is fantastic. So smooth and the ginger syrup is so perfect. Have yet to try anything else. She tells me that the flavored fried tofu pieces here are great too. But on the tofu fa alone this place deserves 5 stars.

Delicious as usual. And now abiding by health code regulations! Owner(?) made an effort to reach out to notify me that they have fully passed their last health inspection and is looking forward to having customers come by again, which I appreciated, at least shows that they take their Unilocal criticisms seriously. Though to be honest, after recently coming back from a two week Southeast Asia trip with zero gastrointestinal issues whilst stuffing my face with street foods, I am pretty sure I am invincible. So VN Tofu: your previous health code violations will not deter me. But for the sake of the greater community, please pass all your subsequent ones because I love your soy products.

vn tofu I have been searching for a place like you in chicago for so long! its probably because I grew up eating so much tofu and fake meats but I crave a cube of hot crispy salty fried tofu. 6 large pieces of hot fried tofu for a dollar. they also have the soft tofu dessert with sweet ginger sauce and tons of other tofu variations in their fridge. not the crispiest or most flavorful tofu I have ever had but it is cheap and I will be coming back!

Did anyone else know on Unilocal that tucked away on Argyle, hidden in plain sight, is a tofu master, a genius of bean curd? A friend of mine brought me here — how the hell he knew about this place I have absolutely no idea, but holy moly, the stuff they make is amazing — this is sort of like tofu heaven — if, of course, you like tofu. They make a million different kinds of fried tofu here — lemongrass, cilantro, with onion and spices, with mushrooms, in cubes, in rolls, in slices. They make sweet, soft tofu with sweet sauce(there’s a name for this I can’t remember) in a giant pot that he keeps behind the counter. Now, you have to keep in mind that tofu in most parts of Asia is not a meat substitute; it is a delicious high protein food by itself, so although I don’t think I saw anything with pork or meat the last time I was in there, I would ask — if, again, that isn’t your thing… and for me, it isn’t. The man who runs(I presume owns) this place always has a HUGE smile and is always super happy, and has a great laugh. You come in, collect from the counter the hot tofu that you want — you can ask what each is if it is unclear — then you head for the cash register, and pay essentially nothing for all of it. Everything is super inexpensive, and super, super delicious. The stuff he keeps in the refrigerator also looks delicious, but I haven’t tried it yet. Needless to say, this is becoming a staple of mine. The whole place is very low-frills — but judge it for the food, and you’ll be very happy.
