This was such a cute little Japanese place. I loved the cleanliness of the location. Its very hip, modern and clean. And the food was delectable! A friend and I had: Miso Soup *Seared Tataki Beef *Oyster Shooters Sashimi: Hotate Aburi, Ama Ebi, and Salmon Volcano Aburi *Ommera Sushi and *Apple Port Sunrise Sushi Now, to get into detail on some… *Seared Tataki Beef was not the most tender I’ve experienced. It was certainly chewy. Tried one piece and then another to give it a chance but the next was also chewy, very much like chewing gum so I let my friend eat that. I couldn’t swallow, it was that bad. My friend agreed. Maybe it was just a bad batch. *Oyster Shooters were just asked requested: Spicy. We got two big oysters per shot class. They were big but good enough to swallow. *Ommera sushi roll was amazing! Perfectly crunchy and packed. My fave part, besides the miso soup. *Apple Port Sunrise sushi roll blew my mind! Or my mouth! I have never tasted a sushi roll with apple and this was a great first experience. This is one I would recommend to everyone that visits. Caramel sauce on top. $ 120 later, we left satisfied and full!

This place has been our regular since it has opened. We go there at least 4 times a month. The fish is very fresh and the service is great. It’s not located in the congested part of Downtown Chicago, so if you’re looking for an upscale and trendy place to have sushi, don’t bother. This place is for real sushi lovers and those who appreciate fresh seafood. I still haven’t had anything on their menu that I didn’t enjoy!

I came here for ramen, not sushi, so my review will mostly be pertaining to that. After having heard of this place that serves«legendary» ramen, my roommate and I came here for a late Friday night dinner. The ambiance and space were surprisingly pleasant. Parking was not. I ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen and my roommate had the Kira Miso Ramen. Much better than Ramen San, in my opinion, and more authentic than High Five Ramen. I added an egg to mine and it was perfection. We also had the mango mochi for dessert. The presentation was noteworthy, and the mochi was pretty standard. Note that this place is BYOB! They also serve alcohol, and there’s a $ 5 corkage fee.

The sushi here is fantastic! The okonomiyaki is one of the best things I’ve ever tasted. Along with the sushi they have other options(sashimi, udon, ramen, bento boxes). Everything I have tried has been amazing. The staff is extremely friendly. The chefs are great.

Tsukiji fish market? My foot! Well, I used to have breakfast at the real Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo while living there, and eat there each year as I travel to Tokyo. I have no idea how this restaurants claim they bring their fish from Tsukiji fish market; i.e. i do not believe it… maybe packed frozen purchased from a 7⁄11 at Tsukiji. Low quality raw fish served on poorly done rice, called Nigiri… not even as good(bad?) as those pre-pared ones at Whole Foods Market, and certainly not as palatable as what you get at Mitsuwa for a fraction of the price. Stopped by there as I was driving by and was too hungry to think clearly and go somewhere else. Lunch at about $ 58 no alcohol, no quality, and certainly no value. As for the name of the place(assuming it is legal and not copyrighted/trade marked by the real entity), it feels like going to Tokyo and having pizza at a restaurant called Chicago Water Tower Pizza…

So when I saw the name of this sushi place, I was like, «wow, they must have HUGE balls to name themselves after Tsukiji! Hopefully the fish is super fresh…» I mean, it wasn’t awful, but it wasn’t spectacular or worthy of its name by any means. Bland sushi rice had no vinegar. Spicy crunchy roll was alright, I guess. But the real reason that I have to rate them pretty low is because our delivery order took over 90 minutes to arrive. It was snowing, yada yada, so normally I would just give them a pass… but we ordered delivery from 3 other places at the same time(don’t judge!), and they all came within an hour. Tsukiji took WAY longer. Plus, the sushi was lackluster. So I think you could do way better than this place if you’re looking for sushi delivery.

I really don’t Unilocal anymore, but I feel like this place deserves a shout out as it’s our go to Japanese restaurant, has solid food, good service and seems to never be that crowded. They cover all the bases with sushi, noodles, katsu and other Japanese standards. I appreciate that they don’t also have Thai(like so many sushi places do these days) and just focus on one cuisine… My 15 month old(and I) highly recommend the okonomiyaki(seafood pancake). Give this place a try!

Ima go ahead and give this place 5 stars just because they were just as good as my favorite Ramen spot that I have been going to for years. I ordered the Kira Miso Ramen and it was actually spicy which I LOVED! The broth is delicious and the portion size is great. Service was friendly and the menu had a lot to choose from. Don’t judge by the exterior of the place. Once you go inside it’s super cute!

Overall: Tsujiki fish market is an ok place to dine for it’s lower prices but the warm is uncomfortably warm and the sushi tasted like it was frozen Food: Salmon Donburi… the salmon tasted frozen. The quantity is pretty good. The miso soup was good — You know that uncomfortable feeling when you sit on a warm toilet seat? That’s what it felt like when I walked into the Tsujiki Fish Market restaurant in Chicago. I saw sushi lying there that seemed to be unrefrigerated and wondered how it could have been fresh. The waitress was nice and attentive but the food wasn’t great. The salmon in the salmon donburi had a weird chewiness to it that made it taste old. I’m guessing it had been frozen for a while. The miso soup and free edamame were solid as well as my girlfriend’s eel dish, but my dish was disappointing.

Tsukiji is in a nice neighborhood and has a nice quiet feel to it. It is much more of a lunch destination than for a fancy dinner. I can’t say the sushi does Tsukiji’s namesake justice, but it is very inexpensive, and the lunch deals are great. Drop by for a quick bite, good service, and happy staff.

Tsukiji(named after the famed fish market in Tokyo and pronounced similarly to «squeegee» is a solid local Japanese choice. It is not the trendy see and be seen type of place you might find downtown, rather it is a locally run place headed by nice people working hard to make customers happy. The menu is very diverse offering not only sushi but bento boxes, rice bowls, tempura, ramen and udon as well. Basically it is a tour of classic Japanese fare. It’s all solidly prepared and presented. None of it will blow you away but it likely will not disappoint either. The presentation is actually greater than one might expect from such a place and it represents generally a very good value. Along the lines of value they also allow you to BYOB but now are offering Sake as well so it is the best of both worlds. The portions are also generous and it is generally an easy walk in. It is great to have such a place in the neighborhood and I urge locals to support them. Its a great and in some ways better alternative to the other area sushi and Japanese spots.

If you want true authentic Japanese food, this joint is more like fusion at best. Owner is not Japanese says a lot in its details of materials, the way they are cooked and even presented. Rice is a major part of any Japanese place. This is just so so. I don’t mean to speak ill when owner isn’t Japanese. However, I want real authentic stuff. Please try harder.

The gist: excellent service; good, somewhat expensive*, sushi *The prices of the individual rolls aren’t bad, but if you compare the size of the roll and the cut of fish on the rolls between this restaurant and say, Yuzu, you’ll see why I call this place somewhat expensive. They do a hand towel service at the beginning of your meal. They bring out tablet sized compressed towels and pour war water over them. Watching them expand it pretty fun. I got the rainbow roll and the salmon roll. Not bad, but the rice could have been more flavorful. Fish was sliced pretty thin.

I think it is kind of pretentious to name your sushi place after the Tsukiji Fish Market, the place where Jiro as in Jiro Dreams of Sushi goes to buy the freshest fish for his restaurant. It was a little snooty to greet us in Japanese, when it appeared that none of the employees were Japanese. ALSO, I would say 80% of their specialty rolls had white tuna/escolar. PLEASE, read about white tuna/escolar consumption. Humans can NOT digest these fish, but of course, as with everything, if you eat sparingly, you’ll probably be okay. Anyway… Service-wise… We came here at 10pm on a Friday night for a late dinner. We were the only ones in the restaurant, yet they took their sweet time coming to get our orders or filling our water. I can’t remember the names now of what we ordered. The Green Diamond or something similar to that name had calamari in it, which was different, but decent. The portions aren’t the biggest. We ordered two skewers — the pork and the chicken liver. Both were good, but definitely not worth $ 7 for each dish.

Tsukiji Fish Market is an actual fish market known in Tokyo for being amazingly fresh & the biggest wholesaler of fish. So either this place has to be fantastic… or is super messed up for using the name… or perhaps both? Personally, I have no strong opinions on them using the name. Their sushi is good and that’s what matters in my mind. I actually ordered some maki through GrubHub and the rolls held up just great during transport. I ordered some very basic maki — a Philly Roll, Spicy Tuna, Shiitake, and Sweet Potato Roll. All of these were some of the best I’ve had in quite awhile. They were rolled well, used very fresh fish and overall tasted delicious. I’d love to go in and try some of their other dishes but based on the name of this restaurant, I’m going to go out on a limb and say sushi is their specialty. Seeing as it’s my specialty, too(I’m an expert sushi eater), it will be awfully hard for me to venture on to other dishes. Loved it. Devoured it. Going back soon.

I lived in Japan for a while, it was some time ago so I forgot why I seldom eat Japanese food,(though I like it) and, why the Japanese rates of gastric(stomach) cancer per capita are highest in the world — salt/sodium! It’s a charming restaurant with lovely, friendly service. I ordered the spicy miso ramen, my bad, as I normally don’t eat a lot of salt in my diet. Maybe it was me that wasn’t used to a lot of salt but I found my ramen too salty for my pallet. Everything else, the sushi, yakatori etc were fine.

I had high hopes for Tsukiji – both the website and the storefront seemed extremely promising, and while my experience wasn’t terrible, it didn’t live up to what its name seemed to promise. I got the Kainan roll which I enjoyed for the most part – the yuzu mayonnaise was an excellent addition to the flavors of the shiitake mushrooms and the flakes; however, I had my suspicions about how fresh the tuna was. The tonkotsu ramen, however, was pretty disappointing – the broth was way too salty, and the noodles were slightly overdone and strangely wide for ramen noodles. Overall, decent service but mediocre food for a rather steep price.

I really like this place! The workers are all really friendly and the food is pretty good. The sukiyaki and kara miso ramen are among my favorites. Caution though, the kara miso is really, really spicy. Like, they have started warning people when they order it kind of spicy. The sukiyaki, on the other hand, is slightly sweet and delicious. They have this hand towel thing that they give you when you first sit down that is a nice touch. The sushi is also really good, and tastes fresh. The prices are also very reasonable, which is always a plus! Their takeout and delivery isn’t as good as the food you get when ordering there, but when is takeout/delivery ever as good as getting food in a restaurant? This place is all about presentation, so you should definitely stop in and eat here. The head chef is awesome and makes amazing looking food! Oh i almost forgot to mention, this place is BYOB and there’s a bar that has carry out down the street in case you forget the booze at home!

I’m really glad I didn’t Tsukiji my shorts as I sat down to eat here. There were some giant spider decorations that scared the bejeses out of me, but thankfully I held it together long enough to enjoy one of the better BYO’s I’ve had in quite sometime. They have a huge menu with sushi, specialty rolls, ramen, yakitori, bento boxes, and a bunch of other noodle options. It’s all pretty damn delicious and the price point is really low considering the quality of what you’re getting. Definitely do the Tonkatsu ramen, which is about as tasty as it is fun to say, and don’t you dare leave without some Green Tea mochi. It’s as sweet as the cute little servers, and tops off what’s an all around awesome date experience… especially if you’re a bachelor on a budget.
