After trying a number of different hairdressers in my North Side neighborhood that were ok, I continued my search for someone who was beyond just ok. Finally, I went to Unilocal for help — and guess what?! That’s where lucky me «found» Michael at Tina’s! He is talented, pays attention to detail, asks for your input, and is very welcoming. Because of all these attributes, I asked to have some of his business cards to pass along to those who compliment my hair.

Really enjoy their facials. After going to NYC Chinatown salons where they’re fastidious about extractions, this place is the only place that comes close outside of nyc — including the Bay Area. If it were closer, I’d come here once a month. This is not your spa– like experience, but if you’re looking for efficacy, then try this place out.

I haven’t had my hair cut in almost a year so I knew it was way past due.
I went in at 10am so I only waited about 5 minutes until a lady took care of me.
I’ve had a ton of bad hair experiences in the past with people going scissor crazy & taking off way more than I wanted, however this stylist listened to me with open ears and really respected the amount I wanted to cut off and everything! (I did not catch her name but she was extremely sweet & so easy going. She moved from California with her kids JUST to help Tina with her hair salon & that definitely takes some guts!)
I asked for long layers, & very, very subtle highlights.
She did an amazing job! I do wish my highlights came out lighter but I did ask her to make them really subtle since I’ve never highlighted my hair before but I’m really enjoying me new do & I do hope to go again soon for lighter highlights!

On a side note I did get to see Michael do hair & he was soooo particular & very crafty! If you an the type of person that wants a «V» shaped haircut DEFINITELY GO FOR HIM!
I watched him perform that V shaped haircut on a woman who had hair down to her butt & the results were STUNNING. I will definitely get a haircut from him one day!

MICHAEL. He is an amazing hair stylist, he takes his time to make sure everything blends which seems impossible with asian hair anywhere else. He is reliable, he is there almost everyday so you can go at whatever time suites you. Hope he stays forever. I have yet to try the facials but will soon!

unfortunately lately i’ve been neglecting it and had to go in for another one

Five stars for the facial! I’m from California and I’ve had my fair of facials from various Asian ladies! By far the best facial ever! I’m not sure what her name was but she was so thorough, you can tell she was really trying to extract every little thing out. She really took her time. Even if it was a little painful at times, it was much apprecited and well worth it! And the hot suction thing… AMAZING!!! This is the best deal around town.$ 35! Go, go, go!!!

This salon can get really busy on most days of the week, but it is definitely worth the wait! I came here for the first time during my visit to Chicago this summer and i was definitely not disappointed. I got my hair cut my Julie and she was extremely helpful with helping me decide what haircut i should get. I told her exactly what i wanted and she exceeded my expectations. I’ve never been so satisfied with my haircut before! I definitely recommend Julie. As for my next visit, i can’t wait to try the hot bamboo facial suction treatment!

Hot bamboo suction + facial = wow.
I was this*** close to driving to another facility to get a $ 70 facial, and I am glad I walked into Tina’s first. Julie was the lady who did my facial, and she was very pleasant during the entire process. This was my very first facial so I did not know what to expect, but she made it painless beyond what I expected. The bamboo was not too hot, but there was pretty strong suction– pulled the disgusting stuff off of my face. The bamboo treatment took about 10−15minutes or so. The rest of the time she did the «typical» facial treatments: mask, steam, massage, another mask, and another massage… felt amazing. The only downside was the noise from the salon can be heard in their «facial room». It didn’t help that there were kids running around screaming the whole time in the salon.
Otherwise, I would definitely recommend to try it, half of what a facial normally costs, with the same benefits. My skin was so soft and rejuvenated! I am going back every month.

WHAT IS THIS HOT BAMBOO FACIAL SUCTION TREATMENT?
Because I have been Googling this traditional Vietnamese treatment for the past 30 minutes and ladies, I’ve got nothin’.
Whatever it is, I am in love with it. My skin is in love with it. It is incuhhhhredible. It extracts your clogged pores through some sort of suction method and feels like a facial massage on steroids. It hurts a little at times, but then when she shows you how much gross silt she’s removed from your face with a tiny little bamboo tube… it’s all worth it.
If you’re expecting frills and waterfalls and a cup of ginger tea when you’re done, look elsewhere. If you want rose-​petal soft skin for $ 35? You got it.

Got my hair from Michael. He’s quick and efficient. Doesn’t speak perfect English but likes to talk anyway. The haircut is a little more costly then some of the surrounding salons (which there are lots) but he does the job like I like it. Nice service and clean place to go.

Went in on a Monday afternoon for a haircut and facial, and there was no dissapointing!
My skin wasn’t in the best shape that day, and I walked out of there after 45 minutes of attentive care, numerous masks, and an intense hot bamboo treatment, to feeling like a new woman! Only $ 35, how can you beat that?!
Also I explained how I wanted my hair cut and before I knew it she cut away for several minutes and blew it dry, and it looked great! I usually don’t like being rushed, but I didn’t feel that way at all, she just knew what she was doing.
Definitely worth a try, and the facial is a must!!!

after my old hair guy moved salons for the third time in four year, i realized it was time to find a new salon. luckily i stumbled upon Tina Beauty Salon and Michael. although it was a busy Sunday at the salon, i only had to wait a few moments before being seated for hairwashing. the woman who washed my hair massaged my scalp and left me completely relaxed,
Michael, who has worked in the area for 15 years, was very attentive and asked plenty of questions to double-​check that i really wanted to cut off that much hair and how i wanted my layers layered.
i was so happy with the experience and look forward to my next haircut with Michael.
