Greasy heartburn will be for sure. that onion smell is like an entity that will never leave. It’s a special funk. But its been there forever before area redone. If your brave enough to try, something interesting and sorta tasty.

drove around the area to look for some greasy food to eat at night and we found Maxwell’s! ordered a cheese burger and a chicken sandwich. i would say this is by far probably the worst Maxwell’s I’ve have ever eaten… the fries was warm, very greasy, and soggy… the chicken sandwich was really dry… the cheese burger tasted bland. and their grilled onions was under grilled and very oily… will not come back!

Not even close to Jim’s. do not even waste your time undercooked food, way too greasy fries. Just a low quality product overall.

These are as good as the original. I have only had the polish, but it is delicious! And the prices are reasonable.

That was the worst cheeseburger I have ever eaten in my life. I went in and was delighted by the cheap prices. I’ve been to many comparably cheap greasy hot dog, burger, gyros, and BBQ places here in Chicago, so I had high hopes. I ordered the burger and paid up, and they immediately pulled one lukewarm from the counter and gave it to me. The fries were soggy and limp. The meat had the texture of a sponge in the bottom of a neglected sinkful of dishes, and worse flavor than those nasty frozen Whitecastle burgers I microwaved at a gas station once when I was really drunk. I tried really hard to give it a chance because I hate to waste food, but I couldn’t eat more than three bites. I had to go down the street to wash the taste down with something else. I have been chewing gum all day and I still burp up a flavor that is similar to what I imagine 9-day-old roadkill tasting like. If you want some cheap greasy food, walk a few blocks and go to Sam’s Chicken & Ribs. Go anywhere but here.

Having just moved to the hood, I was thrilled to find this place so close to my new home. I had been at a nearby Chase for a deposit and decided to grab a dog to take home before catching the 155, 36 or 151 a few blocks home. Had it not been raining, I’d have walked. The staff is very friendly and fast. The dog was fresh, tasty and had all the right Chicago dog trimmings. Fast, cheap and delicious! I will be back! I’ve noticed people complain about no poppyseeds — but mine had ‘em. I also got peppers. The fries were skin on fresh cut: my favorite. And they now take credit cards so I can get my rewards points while satisfying my hot dog urges! There’s a Popeye’s nearby, the awesome Star Grill and a Dunkin’ Donuts right nearby. Sometimes, I hit all those places and get stuff to go to stock up.

as good as it gets for the price. I find this place to have awesome fries with the cheese sauce, as well as the hot dogs are very tasty. For the price which is cheap, this is the place to go! Highly recommend.

One of my co workers bought me lunch here and at first I was not happy, but BUTBUT as I peeled open the brown bag I was pleasantly greeted by home fries(skin still on) that were crispy and salty just as I prefer them and then I got to the polish that was crisp and tender in all the right places. YAY for this location for making me a believer again

Not a bad place to add to the list of options near Loyola. The prices are cheap and the food isn’t bad. You get fries with absolutely everything on the menu which helps. Overall, not a bad option and definitely better priced than 5 Guys. Few times I’ve been there have been cash only so keep that in mind.

CHEAP, CHEAP, REALLYCHEAPFOOD! And they are open 24 hours. I can see a drunken stumble or two on the menu for me! My first visit here was anything but a stumble. Dad drove. I went in, ordered two cheeseburgers, one with onions, one with just k & M, and a Hot Dog, fries with all three, and took it to go. The total was 8 $ and some change! SHOCKING! Even better, Mom and Dad were happy, satisfied and Ok with my choice of lunch spots. There are bar stools and some leaning counters if you want to consume before you leave. RC products are the drinks of choice offered by the seller. Counter staff was friendly as any I have met! I really hope they make it. Our hood needs a new place like this!

The Original Maxwells is straight to the point. Good cheap food! Much like the one by UIC, they have everything from burgers to polishes, even boneless porkchop sandwiches. Grilled onions is what makes anything at Maxwells, so thats a must. The real big difference Ive noticed though, their hot peppers. If youve been to the one by UIC, those are some FIERY peppers. The ones at this establishment though, are much much milder in comparison. The fries are cooked much better here in my opinion as well. Free refills are available at the fountain, so thats definitely a plus. The drive thru is currently out of comission and they are accepting cash only at this time, so make sure youve got some green!

This is an amazing place to go to after drinking a few beers or downing a few shots. Very similar to the one by UIC but i like the french fries here way more. Burgers are cooked well and the grilled onions are cooked to perfection. I ordered my meal with a side of cheese cup for my french fries and surprisingly the cheese tasted a bit different but it was a good different. I really like their cheese cup for my fries i like it over ketchup there. There are free refills at the fountain machine. The only downside is that there is no seating indoors only outside seating so eating here in the winter might be a bit difficult. Doesnt take card so cash only.

*** This rating is based on the fast-food scale. *** I live nearby and I saw the place get set-up and stay in the appears-to-be-opening-any-day-now stage for what seemed like several months. I’m told that it opened on 8⁄3. I got a Polish and fries(for $ 3.75 or so) on my first visit. Flavor and heat were just about right. I’m guessing that the bun may have been purchased at the nearby Aldi. Most likely it had a large amount of liver-scarring HFCS. Oh, well. There’s ample parking available and three picnic tables for warm-weather seating. Having a 24-hour operation in the neighborhood, especially in that somewhat barren area, is a plus. I’m sure it will be a big hit with the Loyola crew.

Nowhere to sit. No poppyseeds on the hot dog bun. Bland hot dog toppings. Now that I’ve gotten the complaints out of the way, the positives. There are NONE. You’re better off going to Patio Beef or Wolfy’s. Or go next door to Popeye’s! The nearest transit stop is the #36 Broadway bus, and #155 Devon.

Driving home today I saw a lighted Open sign and customers inside the Original Maxwell Street at 6350 N. Broadway(Broadway and Devon) So I dropped off the family at home and raced over for a first taste. The executive summary is that this place will nicely satisfy my Polish sausage and Chicago dog impulsive cravings. But it’s not without some minor flaws. First, the positive. I ordered my staples, Polish sausage with onions and mustard and a Chicago-style dog with no relish and extra mustard and celery salt). Both the Polish and Hotdog had nice snap when I bit into them. They were hot and had great flavor. Both came with fries. The fries were those soggy kind with the skins on. They had a good potato flavor and they weren’t overly greasy, salty or burnt. They included salt, pepper and a token ketchup packet in the bag. A loyola student sitting near me ordered the pork-chop sandwich and commented that it was good. I’ll try that next time. The people behind the counter were courteous and quick. It’s open 24 hours! Now the negative. The buns didn’t have poppy seeds. They didn’t put hot peppers on my Chicago dog(I guess I’ll have to specify that next time). I couldn’t taste the celery salt. And there’s nowhere to sit. The sitting part isn’t really a big deal since I like to sit in the car and listen to the radio anyway. I hope this place does well although I’m worried that I’m gonna get a lot fatter and crowds of drunken Loyola students might stand in the way of me fulfilling my late-night cravings.
