Awe man, this is my favorite Sunday afternoon treat at the maxwell street market. Haven’t had a chance to see them this season because of the weather. So I decided to try the restaurant. Booo! Dissappointed! Cilantro and onion tacos are very simple with beef. Kinda tough and Luke warm. But I will give extra credit for the food truck at the market. fresh! Hot! And delish every Sunday! I’ll stick with the truck.

This restaurant needs work and a Spanish Gordon Ramsey up in here! For starters I came here on a Sunday with my brother wanting to try a new spot. When we arrived we were directed to the 2nd level and seated. It was pretty empty for a Sunday but it could have been the time we went 2pm ish. Well we were seated and given a menu with so many different food options. From Italian, to mexican, to American and even seafood options. We both looked at eachother and thought way too many food choices here! You can only ask yourself how long the food is stored here?!? So we decided to go BASIC and go with breakfast which you cant possible mess up. Meanwhile we ordered a guacamole for starters that when it came out just tasted like horrid freezer/refrigerator burn. It just didn’t taste fresh :/needless to say we picked at it and let it be on the dish. Shortly after, our breakfast order finally arrives. I ordered scrambled eggs with Mexican steak. My brother ordered ham and eggs. No complaints with these orders however as soon as I bit into my steak my breakfast mojo went bitter. I just couldn’t get over the bland steak. It’s was unseasoned and just plain awful. For a restaurant that brands it’s name as a steak house, you’d expect some great taste. Service was great however sadly it’s the food that’ll stop me from coming back to this joint. Ps we paid our tab and shared our experiences with the owner who got extremely defensive and accused us of being like the rest who always try to get away with free food. We never asked for anything in return and simply offered suggestions for improvement. She was so upset and refused to hear anything constructive. I said thank you and I would not return back.

We recently used The Green House of Steak for our company holiday party. Everything was really, really good. We appreciated their service and all the food they brought –we even ordered the goat meat –a first for me –and it was really, really good! I thought it was a cute touch that they decorated the buffet line with bell peppers and greenery to give it a more festive touch. Everyone was pleased with the food so we are very happy with their catering service.

Really quickly, so I truly wanted to love this place but I just couldn’t! The Good: Reasonably priced, Clean, courteous service, we were seated on the 2nd flr which has an open concept, lots of natural light. Salsa was delicious especially the Chipotle based salsa. You get a soup which for me was delicious perfectly seasoned and you could tell it was homemade not canned. The bad. We both order tacos,(a staple that is hard to mess up, so i thought). I ordered tacos de carne asada, my friend ordered the tacos de alhambre. My taco was NOT carne asade it was more like steamed beef that tasted nothing like carne asada, no seasoning just bland and dry I could not get passed the first bite. My friends tacos were made with the same meat but came with melted cheese, green peppers, and onions like me my friend could not get past the first bite. Informed the waitress. Who was very nice, and even brought back two beef tacos their second attempt at the good olé taco de carne asada was better but not good enough. I am sure that I would not being venturing to try anything else on their menu. I would suggest changing the menu to reflect what they really are serving so that customers who dine there know what to expect.

I love this place. It is by far one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. The prices are reasonable and the food is great. Their chicken flautas are not to be missed. They have the best horchata. The meat in the tacos and tortas is always flavorful and moist… The menu is enormous. And they offer everything from breakfast and burgers to burritos and tortas. All at a reasonable price… On top of that, the wait staff is friendly. What more could you ask for… My only complaint is that this restaurant closes too early(around 7pm) and I can’t always make it in time.
