I want to preface this with the fact that I love dive bars. The plastic cups and the sticky everything in this bar didn’t bother me, but paying $ 33 for 2 Makers on the rocks did. There are so many dive bars in the area that don’t price gouge, I recommend passing on this one.

The mark of a good bar is not necessarily its size but the quality of its service and its ability to create the right atmosphere. Some of my best drinking experiences have been in small bars tucked away in basements or in repurposed, old workshop spaces. Regrettably, The Dugout Sports Bar & Grill is not among these gems. The location of The Dugout makes it a convenient first or last stop on a tipsy night out. The owner was wise in this regard, having selected a spot just steps away from the Addison Red Line stop. For this reason, I have found myself on several occasions wandering down into The Dugout’s scummy pit of late-night drunkery. The layout and aesthetic of The Dugout remind me of the numerous frat house parties I attended back in undergrad — dirty, cramped, an impromptu beer pong table, and that distinct smell of cigarettes, underarms, stale beer, and urine. I know the ambiance sounds terribly appealing, but it’s the bartenders – specifically, Tawny, John, and Jessica – that honestly bring you back to this place. Friendly and courteous, they each exhibit a customer service aptitude that makes for a comfortable consumer experience. Unfortunately, though, this doesn’t apply to all the staff. As you walk by The Dugout, you can’t help but notice signs for cheap drink specials. In fact, there is a banner above one of the entrances that advertises $ 4 Old Style tallboys. For those who like a good, cheap beer special: The Dugout actually charges $ 6 for Old Style tallboys… not the $ 4 as advertised. I learned this the hard way. After ordering, I walked outside curious to revisit the banner above the handicap accessible entrance. Maybe I misread it? The door guy began touting the daily drink specials, so I asked him if tallboys were $ 4 as posted. Rather than tactfully addressing my concern, he combatively disputed even the slightest suggestion that this was the case. When I pointed out the banner, he rudely insulted me, then aggressively argued that because the sign was old, I was unable to correctly read the price listed on the banner. Instead of bickering, I simply took a picture, chugged my beer, and left. I guess you can see the banner for yourself; I’ve attached a picture of it to my review. Though, it still looks like $ 4.00 to me. Bars and restaurants live or die on service. If I want a successful bar, all I have to do is provide mediocre offerings along with a non-offensive ambiance, but I MUST couple that with good service. Providing customers with a consistent, positive experience is the first step to achieving loyal patronage. Unfortunately, though, The Dugout has lost my support, and I have no plans to return.

The bartender aggressively told us that the sign outside for $ 4 tall boys was old and that they didn’t cost that anymore. They were six bucks. Not a big deal but the sign outside for cheap beer is what drove us in there. They also didn’t mention a $ 20 min on credit cards until we had our beers so we had to buy a shot too. When the guy at the next table started puking on the floor and no one seemed to care, it was time to go.

This is usually one of my favorite spots to swing by before or after a cubs game because it is usually never packed. What good is a scummy dive if its packed? This isn’t a clean nice place, it’s got a scummy dive place(yes there are different levels of dive bars) feel to it. It still has booze and a juke box and some pretty decent bar grub, plus a few tvs so it can be pretty good for a few drinks. The bartenders are usually quite friendly, at least to the opposite sex. Plus, Tawny Jordan the model works here so if you are just in it to check out some beautiful girls, there ya go. Just don’t be a creeper lol. Most people dont realize they have beirut in the back of the bar. All in all it’s a pretty chill spot to grab a PBR or something before/after the game. Prices aren’t horrible but they aren’t so great either. Start offering $ 2.50 PBRs like the rest of the dives in Chicago. Any decent dive spot should have a PBR and a shot for $ 5 Check it and Unilocal it!

I have been here several times for cubs games. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I’ve never had a problem here. The beer is cheap, and the staff is friendly, what more could you ask for when it comes to a wrigleyville bar? In my opinion one of the best hangouts in the area. I always stop here on my way to the game. Jessica and Tawny are super helpful and friendly bartenders.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Good prices. Hidden dive bar… Typically boring. Sausage fest. Make it the middle bar on your bar crawl.

Do you like beer? Do you like fun? Of course you do. You will like the Dug Out, essentially guaranteed. Friendly bartenders, reasonably priced drinks; really anything you could want in a drinking establishment. No nonsense.

I came here to watch some college football and to meet up with a friend. The place has 2 entrances which was kind of confusing, but wheelchair accessible and helpful for staggering drunks who can’t do stairs. It’s not a very large bar, but kind of divey. The bartender, John is very friendly and attentive. My water was always filled, despite me never ordering any other drink. It’s unfortunate that he’s an Ohio State fan though. I did order some wings here, and I have to say that they did not settle in my stomach too well. They are starting to serve food here, and the selection is limited. I would recommend they try new wings. They were breaded and kind of dry. I thought there would also be buffalo sauce on them, but there wasn’t any. Plenty of tv screens here, and it’s not crowded. Prices are pretty average.
