Nice place to get some Moroccan food. I get the combination platter usually. It comes with three skewers of meat — chicken kabob, koubideh, and shish kabob — as well as a generous portion of 3 unique(2 of which are pickled) vegetarian sides. The meal also comes with soup and bread. Overall, the food is pretty good. However, what is a must have at this place is their Moroccan tea. Definitely give that a go. Sweet and delicious.

Great food. Great owner and service. This is the best moroccan food I have had at any restaurant in the U.S. Food is made-to-order, and there is a different special every day. Their couscous is great, their tajines are awesome and their food in general is shockingly inexpensive! Whenever I am in Chicago(almost 10 days each month) I eat here daily. Definitely recommend it!

Absolutely awful. It’s a hole in the wall place alright. Wanted to like it after reading all the reviews but the lamb was undercooked. Chicken was mediocre and the rice was the only good thing. Can’t understand what the fuss was/is about… i am just hoping I don’t get e-coli after eating here. Spoke with the server about the undercookedmeat. Her reply was that that most of her customers liked it rare. If we wanted it well done, we should have asked. 8 years in Chicago and this is a first. So, if ignorant service, undercooked meat and the possibility of dysentery wet your taste buds. This place is a gem.

Awesome food in an unpretentious and very«Mom and Pop» ethnic setting. The space is nothing exciting and you’re usually scattered amongst Moroccan/middle eastern regulars who clearly enjoy soccer games. The food? Wow. I usually get the kabob meal and recommend both the chicken and beef kifta. Get the mint tea too!

I kept meaning to write a review of this wonderful spot… and I’ve been meaning to go back. So this is step one, and next week we’ll return for more of the delicious fish, fabulous soup, and all the extras. I have to admit we were a little nervous, walking into a restaurant that was entirely full of men(we were two women — my friend from out of town, and my two kids), considering that it was pretty late at night… but as soon as we entered, it felt like morning! The owner was attentive(thee of us don’t eat meat, one does) and sorted out our separate food needs as though it were no trouble at all. The food seemed all to be home made. Each dish was authentic and the vegetables fresh – and with lots of surprise extras – a REAL salad, tea, couscous – they just kept bringing out delicacies, even though it was almost closing time. My one note about the seasoning was that it was a bit salty, but if you don’t mind that, then you’ll love this cozy neighborhood spot. Oh, and it’s open late many nights of the week.

Inexpensive and possibly gem worthy, if having the time to investigate. First for any foodie willing to try something new the walk-in experience is stupefying. Unlike most cafes or sit down restaurants one is left wondering how to go about procuring service and or a menu, this sole act could take some time and in my case(even with asking at the counter) it took about fifteen minutes. We were hungry as hell having walked past the other(now closed) Afghan restaurants and were committed. The chef /owner /host was preoccupied chatting with other tables, preparing foods and well, just kinda forgetting we were there. But, he eventually returned, told us some details and left again. Since dinner what can I tell you? If your party is open to trying anything, get the special of the day. Forget anything else because it isn’t as, well, special. Their menu stinks. It’s a useless piece of paper that means nothing. Pricing isn’t mentioned and the whole thing could use a lot more detail or photos! I read reviews and saw photos on Unilocal and that’s what drew us in. Plus we were walking and well, options were limited. Rethinking the situation, the special of the day was couscous and the chef told us, it was«good» but he didn’t detail what was in it. I.e. was it served with beef, chicken, etc If you Google Moroccan cuisine couscous is a pretty common staple but DAMN if I knew it was gonna look this good I would have ordered it. My chicken kabob platter was okay comfort food and my cousin’s dish of beef kabobs were undercooked and inedible. I told him to send it back and have them heated longer but, disappointment had already set in and he was ready to bounce. He loves kabobs. I should add that despite what you may have read in reviews on Unilocal,the menu changes. Some items like hummus for instance, as told by our chef are not Moroccan. You’re shitting me. for real? I kid, I kid. But he mentioned that they tried offering different items to see if it had any popularity. This is reason why you may read about an offering, no longer offered. Entrees come and go. If you can stomach the wait, perhaps you might have a five star experience like the rest. But for me. one and done. I told my cousin to order in Arabic… I wonder if we could have translated having a better experience as part of our order.

Nom nom nom nom YUM! Came in with the hubs to fill our bellies. Left happy. I had the beef tajine and he had tilapia with a side of sauteed veggies and onions with a bread to put it all together. Honestly that fish was delicious. We had real morroccan tea afterwards. Not to say others teas are fake but you could tell this was the real stuff. Really enjoyed the food here!

This totally nondescript hole-in-the-wall could not be more underrated! Don’t let bare bones interior fool you — remember that it’s owned by one of the co-founders of the illustrious Zebda, people! The boo and I love coming here for a quick, inexpensive, healthy and DELICIOUS brunch. I usually get the frites(french fry!) omelette, which is served with a carefully crafted side salad and freshly baked roll of bread… All of which you’ll get for $ 5! Expertly made coffee drinks, too, which range between $ 2 – 3. There will likely be a language barrier and there might be some confusion with your order(every time my bf and I order different coffee drinks, we both end up with two lattes — ha!) but it’s a tiny price to pay for what is guaranteed to be an outstanding meal. No lines, no screaming children and no $ 12 pancakes here. So wtf are you waiting for?!

At first I was confused because I thought that I was at Zebda, but then I went next door to Zebda and the menu was more expensive, plus there was no where to sit down and eat, so I went back to Tassili. I’m glad I did. After a heaping plate of hummus, fresh bread, and a salad with shredded carrots and homemade garlic vinaigrette… omg…i am so full, I had to take my main entrée a chicken panini to go. Add it all up to $ 9. Algerian, French, Arabic, and English spoken here.

It was a great day when this café opened. At last there was a place that could serve a decent espresso that i could walk to. I recommend the frites-omelette. It is a cheese omelette with french fries inside. Nice.
