Remember Simon Cowell from the earlier seasons of American Idol? He was known for the fact that he was always honest. Oh excuse me. I should use the modifier: «brutally» honest. I enjoyed my time at Taqueria Los Mogotes this evening. The service was very attentive and on-point, yet I couldn’t get over the fact that the food was lackluster. Well, I should specify that the entrees were bland, but their aguas frescas stole the entire show. We started the meal with the strawberry and mango aguas frescas. They were yummy and refreshing. I would certainly go back for those. While the ESPN Sport Center kept me entertained, the entrees came with pretty magnificent presentations. I had the pastor(spicy pork) torta. The pastor slices weren’t that spicy, but I was given the green and red salsa on the side. Guess what? It didn’t make any difference in terms of the flavor. I’ve had tortas in various neighborhoods in Chicago. I had to say I prefer the torta in the taqueria inside a neighborhood supermercado. How about hubby’s veggie burrito suizo? I sampled a little bit, but I was somewhat disappointed. You would think with cheese, sour cream, and other ingredients the entire burrito would taste«sexy» like a salsa dancer. I didn’t feel such sensation. The young man who ran the show was charismatic, good-looking, and easy-going, but the food was the weakest link. I was torn if I should give them another opportunity and try something else on the menu. This was a nice neighborhood place for dine-in or carry-out on the northeast end of Albany Park. I must say I’ve had much better experience at their competitors not only in Albany Park, but also in other neighborhoods in Chicago.

Newly renovated interior, good brunch, very friendly service. Try the Sunday morning sandwich. It’s awesome. Can’t go wrong with this place!

Don’t deny yourself a treat just because they’re off your regular beat. Forget about heading to Andersonville, Lakeview, or wherever you think you need to be. Honestly, if you live somewhere near or far it’s worth the trip to Kedzie on the Brown line(3 blocks north) or the Foster and Lawrence buses(2 blocks south or north). This quaint family-owned joint in Albany Park is best-in-class. They’ve recently remodeled and reworked their menu, which includes a new Sunday brunch. This is a great little spot for a clean take on classic and contemporary Mexican food that satisfies with both familiar and unique flavors. Because, it’s really about the food. Right?

Wow! I hadn’t been here before the remodel /new menu but someone told me I should check it out, and boy was she right! Unique dishes/ingredients, very fresh, very clean, very friendly. Best tacos in the area, which is saying a lot when there’s a taqueria every couple of blocks, but it is TRUE! Try the cochinita tacos and esquites appetizer — yum! Also the homemade lemonades are great AND it’s BYOBAND they will make margarita mix to go with your booze too. This place is awesome, and run by really nice people(a husband and wife team). Oh, and did I mention they deliver?

Love this place! Besides the fact that they are conveniently located by me, their food is pretty great. They’ve recently renovated and changed their menu. Still worth trying. Their steak quesadilla is my favorite! It’s pretty big as they make their own tortillas so one is usually enough for me. They also added cochinita tacos that are awesome! Try it!

My buddy Dan drug me hear after telling me how great this place was post renovation. I tried 6 of the tacos(yes I shared) and they were pretty solid. They hand make their own tortillas and each of the tacos had a different flavor. Pretty bold and tasty flavors I might add, and different from your average basic«carne asada» taco. Not too pricey, and worth the extra .50 per taco to get better quality. Will go back for sure.

Renovated, both in décor and menu. The atmosphere is a little smaller and darker, but has the look more of a restaurant than a taco joint. The menu has been Americanized a bit, and now includes hamburgers. The old vegetarian burrito is gone, replaced by something with portobello mushrooms but no rice or avocado. The chorizo taco is good. The esquites is(are?) not the mayonnaise kind, but made with lots of peppers and lime juice. I can’t say it’s really better or worse than before, but it is different. Worth checking out if you are tired of the Lawrence Avenue taco places.

This place got a makeover! The décor is modern but cozy. Same friendly staff and amazing food. The Albany Park Burger had the perfect amount of spice with the chorizo sauce and the ketchup with Chile flakes with crispy fresh french fries. We had the chicken nachos to start which comes with sour cream and fresh guacamole. No skimping here, there were plenty of toppings down to the last delicious chip. Aside from the amazing food this place is also a BYOB and they have 6 different flavors of Margarita mixers! Next time I will definitely bring a bottle of Blanco. Can’t wait to go back!

Small, clean establishment with friendly service. Being close to where I work, I come here regularly. What keeps me coming back is the freshness of the food and careful preparation/presentation of everything I’ve tried, which is only about five items from their menu. What I get most are the burritos. And I almost always get one of their fruit flavored lemonades.

Taqueria Los Mogotes burritos are the ! I really don’t eat here much, but when I do, I get the burritos. I love the chicken ones, but have also enjoyed the steak as well. They are highly big and one can be shared by two people, easy. I usually get one for lunch, cut it in half, and save a part of dinner later. Service has always been good to me, which setting up a order for catering can be a little ice age. I would highly recommend trying this place out for their chicken burritos.

This is a nice taqueria. It is clean and the food is good. Chris had the steak tacos and I had the Huaraches de Nopales. I also had the guacamole. We enjoyed everything we tried and will be back again as it is close to home. Taqueria Los Mogotes is one of those places we drove by for a very long time before we thought to stop in. I am glad we did!!!

Cheap prices is what I like Al pastor tacos here are soo good. Sometimes though, they seem to undercook the meat leaving me with a stomach ache. or maybe it’s the quality of it but pretty sure it’s from undercooking the meat. I usually just request that they cook it till it’s a bit crispy. Tried all the other meats. al pastor is the best. then chicken, then groundbeef/carne asada.
