This place has a history of sub par food but today I found metal in my salad so needless to say I will not be going here anymore — if you want to eat metal and really crapy mexican food — you should come here.

Mediocre food, nothing special. Lady at the counter never smiles. She also ignores Phone-In customers. She just won’t answer the phone, even when they are open. It’s super frustrating at lunch when I only get a half hour. I work across the street but need to order for pickup. I have to actually go there, order, then wait. This doesn’t leave much time to actually eat. What do people do who want food delivered?

Very standard Mexican fare. Nothing special about the food or the place. Location is hard to drive around and parking is difficult. The people were nice, my order was correct and the price was average. Overall, it was meh. Uninspired food.

I was there Sunday afternoon, about 1, and had the place to myself. A person in the neighborhood recommended it «good tacos and cozy.» I disagree it wasn’t cozy, reminded me a little of dinners you see in movies. It had a Mexican cd playing. Service was good. Had the taco dinner special. Nothing special about it. Tasted ok and was overpriced for the portion they served.

Wouldn’t order from here again. Food was not great and it’s pricier than most taqueria.

THEBESTHORCHATAINTHEWORLDRESIDESHERE!!! Wish they would stay open later as my horchata cravings seem to come about 30 minutes before they close. But I have called and asked if they can fill a couple of cups for me and they always do. They even open the door for me after they are closed. Super nice people.

Hubby and I decided to have our«quiet time» this evening. This didn’t mean that we utilized our evening hours to study the words of God(even though I do love Him very much), yet we wanted our dinner delivered so that we could stay in our PJ’s and be super lazy and low key. I went through options on GrubHub and wasn’t contemplating on Mexican food initially. However, Taqueria La Estrella was one of a few joints that had menudo on the menu. We placed our order on a Friday evening, and many restaurants would offer menudo on Saturdays and Sundays only. However, the schedule of menudo offering doesn’t necessarily follow the norm during summer time. Some places will include menudo on their everyday menu until the end of summer season. Anyways, I was excited! After hubby randomly picked the Tamale dinner while having his eyes closed(we both are low-maintenance people when making decisions), our GrubHub order was finalized. Once again, GrubHub over-estimated the arrival time; food was handed to hubby within forty-five(45). The record could have been faster if the driver didn’t get lost. There was a minor mistake: hubby requested the tamales verde, but the tamales Rojas were found in his dinner. Did I mention that we were low-maintenance people? Thus, he still consumed them like nobody’s business. I enjoyed my menudo, but there seemed to be something missing in terms of the flavor. I sucked in almost all the juice out of poblano peppers that came as part of the condiments, yet that still didn’t provide the«kick» I was looking for. For $ 7.99, I thought the price was average in comparison to other competitors in the city. Hubby commented on the tamales Rojas: he liked them, but he has had better elsewhere. Although tamales here weren’t vegetarian(containing chicken), he chose to break his dietary restriction. Did that have to do with the low-maintenance characteristic, or was he just being inconsistent? I personally thought the latter was more appropriate to describe why tamales Rojas were chosen for dinner this evening! For satisfying my craving for menudo, Taqueria La Estrella did exactly that! Their location is actually very close to the CTA Jefferson Park Blue Line Transit Center. I pass by here almost everyday when commuting back from work via CTA81(Lawrence) bus. While the location is as prime as it can be, I would say expect this place to be an average taqueria to fulfill your hunger.

Went there last Thursday. I paid with my credit card… Two hours later I had a charge on my card that was not from there for an excess of $ 500 from? Two weeks prior when we did take out she called and asked for our cc number??? This place is not in line! Has this happened to you after you visited here? I think this place is stealing credit card numbers. Be careful !!!

Very disappointing, not authentic at all… lackluster to say the least… no effort made by the cooks and tamales are better off anywhere else… go elsewhere!

Went there right before closing, food was excellent. I had the carne asada burrito and my wife had the burrito suiza. I would definitely go back. The Unilocal hours are wrong, they are open till 10PM.

This past week I’ve been scanning the city for Tacos. Why? Couldn’t really tell ya but I’ve been inhaling tacos for the past 4 days. I was on my way to go drop a rental application to a landlord because he was too lazy to come pick it up. On top of that he made me wait an hour; my hunger couldn’t wait so I stopped at this little joint. It was about 11 am or so and i was the only one in. Server came right away and I ordered 4 steak tacos . When those bad boys came up i almost lost my freaking mind. The verde sauce topped it off. If I lived closer i would come to this place a lot more but too bad i don’t! If I’m ever in the area I’ll stop by again

This review is for dine in and take out, not delivery. This restaurant at first glance has so many things going against it — a pretty odd location, no parking, and when you first walk in, it’s casual bordering on divey — but still it rises to the occasion. Great food, huge portions. I love their salsa — delicious! Great burritos, tamales, great soups. Fresh ingredients, delicious every time. Worth the trip!

I ordered green enchiladas and my boyfriend ordered a steak burrito suizo dinner. This place is literally 5 blocks away and the delivery took an hour. I should’ve just gone to pick up the food. The food arrived cold and my plate had such a small portion of rice and the enchiladas were put on top of it. wtf? My boyfriend’s burrito had a funny taste to it. I think it was the sauce on top of it. Beans were okay and the rice almost like an American version of Mexican rice. Meat was okay. Not ordering from here again.

Previously, I was a regular customer would order about ½ week thru Grub Hub. I will not be ordering any longer! Decided to call directly to restaurant boy was that a mistake. Placed order thru Anna. I asked if they could pull up my address by my cell number. No computer system. I was having difficulty communicating(understanding) her. I then asked if there was any one else I could speak to. She, said no just me. Place order. Hour later call them back Anna communicates that driver is on the way. Can you please call and find out where he is. Also, wanted to double check she had the correct address(they use to deliver to me all the time). She responds driver has the address. I asked to speak with owner. She says, owner is the delivery driver. 11⁄2 later call again now they are not answering my call. 2 hrs later Pedro picks up he says, I am kinda busy. I just wanted to know if my food was still coming. Not one sorry, food never came, Anna lied and said the owner said he had spoken to me. Do not know how the have managed to stay in business.

We had a gift certificate, and Taqueria La Estrella was listed as one of the Mexican spots closest to our house. I got the taco dinner, which was good, however, my husband got the enchiladas verdes and I was SOOO jealous of his dinner when he opened it. My tacos were good, but his enchiladas were so delicious-he had to hide them from me because I kept sneaking bites. I also got a tamale which was excellent and really cheap($ 1.29). The portions are huge and so I had enough for a few meals. I would definitely go back there.

I am nwe to working in an area that is NOT downtown Chicago so sometimes the lunch offerings are pretty slim so I decided to try this place out. If you don’t know any better… yeah I guess this place would seem good. The steak is very chewy and fatty. I spent more time picking out the fatty meat in my tacos than actually eating them. The flautas were fried to within an inch of their life. Service is so-so, but they are friendly. Prices are not that cheap for the quality of food.

Pass this place on my way to work a lot and always wanted to come and try, so finally I had to. I’ve been here once with a friend and they were very nice and the food was good as well as pretty cheap in price. I’m thinking about going back today actually. UPDATE10÷2÷2012 I’ve been here PLENTY more times since my initial post. I love this place! I always order tongue and beef tacos and they’re very good. I sometimes take menudo to go, just so I can have something delicious in the morning(most the time at night) haha. The ladies here that take your order are always very sweet and I it’s a good place to come in to and just sit to eat or have delivered. Thanks guys! Will see you very soon!

I can’t believe it took me so long to try this place! After moving to Jefferson Park almost 10 months ago, I finally tried Taqueria La Estralla, and I was pleasantly surprised with the food. I suppose I was reluctant to try this place because I’m always leery of restaurants that offer Mexican, Italian and American food. Stick to one nationality’s food, and be really good at it, right? Places that tend to offer everything, are good at nothing. At least that’s what I think. Anyway, once I looked at a menu, I learned that they no longer offer pizza, but they do still sell American food, like wings, ribs and burgers. But it seems like their real specialty is Mexican food, which I think they should focus on and ditch the American food, but it’s not my restaurant, so whatever. I ordered the Enchiladas Suizas for $ 8, which came with rice and beans. It was really tasty! My husband ordered the steak burrito, which he also got with rice and beans for $ 8. He liked his as well. We did carryout, but you can dine-in or have it delivered. I pass this place all the time, and it always looks empty inside. It doesn’t seem like anyone really dines inside, but it’s an option if you’re interested. Overall, I was really pleased with what I ordered and will definitely order again. Good stuff!

Very average burrito in my opinion. In fact, I would call it below average. It was mostly loaded with rice… very little cheese. No sour cream, no guac. I guess they were pushing the health aspects of their burrito? I don’t know what they were pushing, but I refuse to push the review beyond 2 stars. Parking is also an issue, because there’s no street parking. In the back, there’s this little driveway. It was fine since I was taking it to go.
