I liked this place… the name is kinda deceptive, but everone talks about raw fish… obviously they didn’t notice the wall full of herbs and mostly… tea. Obviously there was a language barrier, there was a cool shark fin hanging in the back. However, I couldnt take a pic of anything as I was told not too. ‘The boss doesn’t want anyone to.‘ I bought some Dragon tea… kinda expensive as it was like 8 bucks for a small amount. When the weather gets warmer… I will go back and check out more. I took a couple of pics of the outside… looking at some of the other pics apparently they had a re opening of sorts. Parking is hard around there… especially during the Chinese New Year… which was when I went. There are some lots around there that may allow you to park. Check first.

We stopped in on our inaugural trip to Chinatown because it looked interesting. Not sure why it’s named Sweet House – seemed to be mostly dried fish and the like. Being interested in the new and mysterious(to me) ingredients, I took a couple pics with my cell phone. Bad idea. Mrs. Crazy-Ass Owner swooped over and started angrily harassing me about taking pictures, pointing to a sign that said«no picture-taking» which I had honestly missed. She demanded to see my cell phone, actually expecting I would hand it over to her so she could delete my pics herself. I apologized and said I missed the sign and would delete them, but she kept demanding my phone. At this point I was fed up and left since she would not let up. She followed us *out the door* yelling that she was going to call the police. I have never experienced anything like that and hope I don’t have to again!

Deceptively named, it’s called sweet house and it has a bunch of candies in the window, but once you enter all you can smell is fish maw. most of their stock is dried ginger root, tiger balm and mysterious things. I felt that I was under watchful eyes the entire time I was there, like they were waiting for me to shoplift some ginger root or dried seahorse. WHATDO they expect, the name of the place is sweet house and when one typically thinks of sweets they imagine candies and pleasant things. I guess it wasn’t too bad, i bought my favorite botan rice candy and a bag of nice smelling loose rose tea. Still a weird experience.

This is not so much sweet, with more health foods than candies. Apparently the name changed since I’d been there.

This place has some really unique candies and bamboo plants. The prices are a bit steep for the candies. They also carry jewelry and other gift items at the back of the store.
